Hey, I checked out some of your covers and they sound great. Keep it up. I think it is amazing that T&S have been doing their thing for over ten years. I give them so much credit and it shows how they have grown as songwriters and performers you know? Got to love em!! :)
I lke the Martin cutaway guitar she has. I have a D-18 and I can't really get all the way down as far as she plays on this song. I love T&S and love this song among of most of their tunes. Great songwriters. :)
it doesn't even matter if she doesn't know the fucking chords and frets… anybody who knows anything about music should know that guitar isn't always about technique…. and the fact that she taught herself to be such a talented musician is even more amazing. :)
for people looking for the chords, the verse is in the key of f sharp, the chords in order are, F sharp minor (ninth fret), D (tenth fret), E (twelfth fret), then a key change to C sharp. the chords in that key in order are, C sharp minor (fourth fret), A (fifth fret), and B (seventh fret), A (fifth fret).
which is a distinction that makes next to no difference when the whole thing is pretty much root notes fifth's and octaves... or in other words what most people know as the typical power cord. Which makes more sense in this context even if it's not technically perfect.
@Fraeg My fingers aren't strong enough to bar yet. I just recently got my guitar not too long ago and I haven't really developed enough strength to keep my finger down.
@SophieeElizabethH94 I think she knows what the chords are (at least what many of them are), she just doesn't know the names of them. My guess is that when she was a girl, someone probably showed her a few basic chords, and then she just played around with them, she played whatever sounded good to her ear.
@mycandiebopaudrey: My praise aside, expect the following to possibly/most likely happen: -Tegan to forget the lyrics to at least one of her songs. -Tegan/Sara to request to start a song over -A crazed fan to try to get on stage (this is a new fad unfortunately) -Tons of screaming lesbians in love/wanting carnal relations with Tegan/Sara/both -Everybody singing along to old singles from 'So Jealous'/'If It Was You' the fans are friendly. the artists are down to earth. definitely a fun show.
@E2theWill @E2theWill Yes. It's called a cut out guitar. But for this, if you can't reach the 12th fret, then you can play the same chord like this: e- 7 B- 7 G- 9 D- 9 A - 7 E - x It's an E chord.
Hahaha, Sara is awesome. In the intro part (with all the hands and guitars) I totally recognized Chris Walla (wearing the same shirt as he did at production of 'the con') and Glen Hansard (with his pretty, totally trashed acoustic guitar).
@XOXOLiveLoveXOXO ohh ok good im not the only one i think its the way her lips move and they way she talks and eye movement . in her old picture were she had the long hair she looked like sidney from scream.. not pushing it lol
@mycandiebopaudrey: I may be biased as I am an enthusiastic fan of theirs, but the live shows are very enjoyable. Mostly because Tegan &Sara enjoy doing a lot of what fans refer to as "banter". They go off on hilarious tangents and side stories that include a fair amount of picking on each other (since they are twins after all). They do much less of this as the tour gets on, which I suspect is simply due to exhaustion. Still, I would prefer to hear T & S live over the albums any day.
1st part: F#min (9th fret 5th string bass) to D (10th fret 6th string bass) to E (12th fret 6th string bass). 2nd part C#min (4th fret) to A (5th fret) to B (7th fret). being a self-taught guitarist doesn't mean we shouldn't know these things!
I love how people insist on trashing Sara just because she doesn't know a lot about guitar. If you know so much about it and are so amazing at guitar then why aren't you in the video teaching us? Oh that's right, because you're not in a famous band. But Sara is, and she's super cute, so get over it.
@jessier223 omg thank you! To be honest i have no clue what I'm doing I just told my brother that I would learn a song! It looks so simple but my brain seems to be exhausted lol
It's a pop-rock song, dude. It's not meant to be complex at all. Not everything is. Judge songs based on what they're trying to be, not some ridiculous standard of complexity. Some of the most revolutionary rock music of all time is incredibly simple. Similarly, a lot of the most complex guitar rock is looked at as child's play by jazz and classical musicians. It's all relative, and there's room for everything. Music is vast. Don't try to hold everything to the same standard-- that's boring.
@ShredST I'm going to have to cut into your argument with blake503, just to counter something you said. you said that Sara Quin has an extremely limited knowledge of guitar playing. Dude I must disagree. She's been playing guitar for 15 years, and created her own music for about 10 or 11. she may not have any knowledge of the names of guitar chords, but that's because she's a self taught guitar player , which in my opinion does not make her extremely limited in guitar playing.
@WtfItsSarah ? as in don't have the strength or haven't learned it? your basic bar chord shapes are pretty easy to play, if you don't have the strength then perhaps you need to have the action on your guitar lowered.
hahaha "you just have to uh make your voice sound a bit like a chipmonk.." also I love how she says she doesn't know anything about the guitar because I'm self taught too and I totally understand how someone can just know the chord shapes or whatever and still be able to play well. props to her
i love how she's not making excuses for not remb the chord names she's so adorable i want her to teach me to play all the songs!!
words can't express how much i love this girl ♥
"And then the 12th fret....no. Yes." Aw too adorable! I love Sara.
I love their music. Cool for her to share and have a good sense of humor.
this really shows what an amazing song writer she is
Hey, I checked out some of your covers and they sound great. Keep it up. I think it is amazing that T&S have been doing their thing for over ten years. I give them so much credit and it shows how they have grown as songwriters and performers you know? Got to love em!! :)
What a joy, watching Sara's fingers for 2 minutes.
I lke the Martin cutaway guitar she has. I have a D-18 and I can't really get all the way down as far as she plays on this song. I love T&S and love this song among of most of their tunes. Great songwriters. :)
That is so cool. Keep playing your guitar also. I just love their tunes so much. :)
Jesus Christ on a stick she's absolutely adorable.
it doesn't even matter if she doesn't know the fucking chords and frets…

@E2theWill YES. I have that same problem, so I put the same chord somewhere else.. But I always get really confused and frustrated when I play it haha
She needs to make a DVD! :D Thanks, Sara! *plays WWAG*
She is such a cutie pie!!!! Just got a T&S shirt in the mail today. I'll wear it to the beach this summer. :)
"It's simple"
"That's it, it's simple"
it's so funny when she said "that's it. it's simple" @ 1:38 she looked pissed off haha
@The949080
I seriously hope they'll have their entire albums on xbl to download. My gosh, I'd play the shit out of any of their albums.
@MisusePerfected It looks like she's kind of using barre chords, so I think she keeps them all muted with her pointer finger.
which is a distinction that makes next to no difference when the whole thing is pretty much root notes fifth's and octaves... or in other words what most people know as the typical power cord. Which makes more sense in this context even if it's not technically perfect.
her laugh at 1:06 got me dead
@Fraeg
My fingers aren't strong enough to bar yet. I just recently got my guitar not too long ago and I haven't really developed enough strength to keep my finger down.
that comparisson has been made so many times!
@SophieeElizabethH94

Sara is the most amazing person ever.
@mycandiebopaudrey: My praise aside, expect the following to possibly/most likely happen:
-Tegan to forget the lyrics to at least one of her songs.
-Tegan/Sara to request to start a song over
-A crazed fan to try to get on stage (this is a new fad unfortunately)

-Everybody singing along to old singles from 'So Jealous'/'If It Was You'
the fans are friendly. the artists are down to earth. definitely a fun show.
Hey, thanks for pointing that out to me. I didn't know that. You sound like a big fan just like me. They are so awesome! :)
It made really happy that she said i don't know anything about the guitar cause I'm the same way with it
@E2theWill yes, i cant play the 12th fret either.
that was great! she's sooo adorable
@E2theWill
@E2theWill Yes. It's called a cut out guitar. But for this, if you can't reach the 12th fret, then you can play the same chord like this:
e- 7
B- 7
G- 9
D- 9
A - 7
E - x
It's an E chord.
That face she makes at the end, that little "I'm so funny" smile is so cute..
@The949080 Did you watch "The Con by Tegan and Sara - SONiC Session " /
That just put a big smile on my face :)
F#m D E are the first three chords she plays. Then the chord starting on the 4th fret are C#m A B.
there's one of Tegan? do you have the link?
Hahaha, Sara is awesome. In the intro part (with all the hands and guitars) I totally recognized Chris Walla (wearing the same shirt as he did at production of 'the con') and Glen Hansard (with his pretty, totally trashed acoustic guitar).
shes so awesome :)
they should do a vid for knife going in :)
i can figure it out by ear but it takes me a bit
@XOXOLiveLoveXOXO ohh ok good im not the only one i think its the way her lips move and they way she talks and eye movement . in her old picture were she had the long hair she looked like sidney from scream..
not pushing it lol
I'm so bad with fret too!! Haha, i ingraved the neck of my guitar and wrote the roman number, to not have to count them anymore!!
@amritaSG ok thank you for the advice!:)
She has the most beautiful hands I've ever seen.
Damn, I have so much trouble making those damn bar chords, I'm not going to be able to learn how to play this song anytime soon. :P
This is super adorable
Yes
HAHAHAHAHA! I now have to cover this song while I sing "I was balking at the cost..."
@mycandiebopaudrey: I may be biased as I am an enthusiastic fan of theirs, but the live shows are very enjoyable. Mostly because Tegan &Sara enjoy doing a lot of what fans refer to as "banter". They do much less of this as the tour gets on, which I suspect is simply due to exhaustion. Still, I would prefer to hear T & S live over the albums any day.
Where is the Tegan video?
my bad the chord shape on the second string is A minor but the chords on the E string are E shape.
totally LOVE T&S- and this is their best song. and she is so cute. i don't know why, but she reminds me of alyssa milano in a strange way.
love it!!!
I love the one of Tegan, but the one of Sara is also nice :)
@hqwad its just a basic powerchord position...
@The949080
Finally! Some good music to jam too! Hell yeah!
1st part: F#min (9th fret 5th string bass) to D (10th fret 6th string bass) to E (12th fret 6th string bass). 2nd part C#min (4th fret) to A (5th fret) to B (7th fret).
being a self-taught guitarist doesn't mean we shouldn't
know these things!
"make your voice sound a bit like a chipmunk and a bit like Cyndi Lauper"
Haha.
She is ♡♡♡♡
i dont understand! no matter how i try i cant make the chord sound right! does anyone know what its called?
lol @ sara counting the frets. adorable! :)
I love how people insist on trashing Sara just because she doesn't know a lot about guitar. If you know so much about it and are so amazing at guitar then why aren't you in the video teaching us? Oh that's right, because you're not in a famous band. But Sara is, and she's super cute, so get over it.
This is only a lesson by Sara Quin not Tegan and Sara. It should be noted in the tittle.
what chord is she playing???
@erikfrusciante Ohh ok, my bad (I've forgotten basically all of my guitar terms)
anyone know what chord shes playing??!
thanks sara !
I love the way she says 5th at 1:05! ahahah
@cathrinebuhaug No in this video apparently not. ;)
"you just have to make your voice sound a bit like a chipmunk and a bit like cindy lauper"
sooooo funny....as always
Oh I love Sara =)
This is so cute and funny!
I love sara
HATERS GONNA HATE!!!! sara knows how to dust all of you off.
0:15 Glen Hansard's Guitar!
@jessier223 lol yea Thanx! =)
That's why she said "watch", 'cause you can clearly see the chord shape doesn't change.
@tacoboiiz Ehh who cares? Power chords: 9th fret, 10th fret, 12 fret. 4th fret, 5th fret, 7th fret.
she played this song in vegas march 2010, all I could think was wow, only one bar chord, damn the strumming at first though.
1:06 SOOOO CUTE
btw this is coming from a guitar player so it's not a biased in any means
pretty cool pretty cool...
@jessier223 omg thank you! To be honest i have no clue what I'm doing I just told my brother that I would learn a song! It looks so simple but my brain seems to be exhausted lol

shes playing F Sharp, D ,E, then the next part is C Sharp, A, then B. and the chord shape is an "E" shape.
omg shes so adorable
i play guitar, and now i dont feel so bad about knowing nothing about it, i just play how i feel it :P
LOL "Chipmunk and Cindy Loper..."
lol you are amusing. please continue.
I now hate having a mini guitar D:
@ShredST I'm going to have to cut into your argument with blake503, just to counter something you said. you said that Sara Quin has an extremely limited knowledge of guitar playing. @ataoldotcom you just summed up my argument point, thanks. :)
She is so awesome, so humble. A true artist like her is worth a hundred idiots who strut around in spandex running memorized scales at warp speed.
I wasn't talking about a video, you said you love Sara'a nose, and i said i love Tegan's nose
hahaha "you just have to uh make your voice sound a bit like a chipmonk.." also I love how she says she doesn't know anything about the guitar because I'm self taught too and I totally understand how someone can just know the chord shapes or whatever and still be able to play well. props to her
@ShredST also if I may ask, what was your reasoning in stating that she has extremely limited knowledge in guitar playing?
well,i would add the vocal skills...i think she really developed a unique style over the years..
I'd love to play this, but I can't bar chords.
>:[
LOL I love her. So funny..
haha, aww :D i too have to count the frets x)
self-taught-players are the best!
I was replying to guy who said they are all power chords.
wooh! self taught guitarist! She's awesome!
