Märit Totten I partially agree but I love the drums in the recording. That is one aspect I have never been 100% happy with even in non-acoustic live versions of this song.
This song perfectly captures the horror of losing the love of your life and being completely unprepared and unable to deal with it. It's like drowning in the open air. Eight years on and I still think about her every day and every time I hear Nineteen. T&S understand the human condition like few other bands.
Me too. Now I’m 29. You and I in different places at the same time doing the same thing and probably feeling incredibly angsty, lonely, and oh so individual 😂🙄😉
I remember watching this video when I first realised I liked girls, I must've been around 12 at that time. Now I'm engaged to the most amazing woman in this world and I couldn't be any happier. This song means a lot to me and for my journey in figuring myself out
I'm so glad this video still exists on youtube. This was my first exposure to Tegan & Sara like 10 years ago and I remember being absolutely enamored by it. I still am today. 🤗
God, this makes me think of my ex. I was 19 when I met her, I'm 21 now but I'm still not over her. She was my first real love, the first person to ever touch my body with gentle hands. This song puts a lump in my throat and uncomfortable thoughts in my head but I can't stop listening.
Wow, I just so happened to run into this powerful song when I was not only 19, but also experiencing the very essence of it. Definitely an experience to remember. Great job, Tegan & Sara
first time i heard this song i was 13 and now i’m finally 19 (been waiting 6 years for this moment)! this song and this recording in particular are very special
holy shit I'm 19 today and I first heard this song at 13 too! I went to the comments to say this and went "wait, the comment I'm about to make is right there" lol. I remember wondering back then if I'd even remember this song at 19, and now it's the first thing I'm listening to for my birthday
One of my best friends recorded this song for me at a concert when she was alive and it was one of the last things she ever sent me on Facebook and that was a few years back. Still fucks me up to this day. My eyes water when I hear this song and I think of her and our memories.
Haven’t heard this song since I was 16 I am now 31 glad I found this song again, brings back memories of my life of sadness, life has and always is full of misery, all you have is yourself in the end 😢
I remember hearing this song fifteen years ago, and glamorizing how nice nineteen would be. Turns out nineteen was probably the lowest point in my life to date, I don't think I've ever hurt as much as I did then. I'm 29 now, and I realize I was hearing the song all wrong. It was never about an optimistic age, but the bitter feelings of dealing with loss you can't control- just doing your best to live through them.
Oh my god. Just clicking on it every day. That beginning... When she starts with : "I felt you in my legs... " ...that's amazing. She is so gorgeous. Both of them. Love them more and more with another new song from them. ..and then that "I flew home..." GOD! my heart melts. I wish I was there listening to them. AMAZING voices :) Girls you're the best.
so beautiful. i rediscovered this song and I remembered why Tegan and Sara are so beautiful. The raspy sound Tegan has in her voice is mind blowing then add Sara's light and airy harmonies and this song, unforgettable.
I have been listening to this since I was a little girl. I met the love of my life at 19 and Im 22 now. The song clicked for once in my life. It fit me too well. Im scared to loose him.
I found this song at a really rough time in my life. I had my daughter really young, and at the time she went to live with a family member. And this song resonated so much for me in the sense of my bond to her before I knew her and when she went away. Happy to say my daughter is almost 16 and has been with me since she was 2.5 years old. ❤️
Tomorrow is my 20th birthday. And thanks to this song and how it fits so perfectly with my experience of being a 19 year old, I will spend my remaining hours as a teenager weeping uncontrollably. Damn it.
8 years ago I was in high school listening to these girls on a daily. 8 years later I was talking to my high school girlfriend about Tegan and Sara and how much we loved them. Thought I'd give them a listen. Feel like my 15 year old self again.
I was 19 when i met my soulmate. He was 33. And right from the very beginning was when i first felt and knew love. And still do. For 3 very beautiful years we got too spend together. I'm 23 now. We're not together anymore. But listening to songs like this... no matter how long it's been. What we've gone through. Even now. Still makes me think about him. The only person i ever got too love... and still do. After some short time we've contacted each other again and have planned to hang out soon. Sometimes i still wish i could go back to the days we spent every hour together... in our apartment. I don't know what the future holds. Feelings change. People change. But all i know is that i will always love him.
Most live recordings kind of suck to be honest because most artists make a twist in their vocals, but this is so much better than the recording for the official album! :D
I heard this after my gay sister in law gave it to me loaded on an iPod I was 18. When she handed me it I was surrounded by my daughter in laws and so on. It was as if she saw my false pretence and knew I was like her. 10 years later am still that person getting gifts from in laws with my family around knowing that my other half knows I know but it's never spoken of so we carry on .........torture pure torture never settle down early and stay true to who u are or you'll end up like me. A virgin (to my sexual desires)and a slave to everyone else (just so things aren't difficult 😞 ) xxx
You guys are my favorite band since I was 5 and I always singing or play you sing when I am sad and this is my family's favorite song we play is no mater what!!!😀😀
im 19 now, recently i lost the love of my life. once I'm 20 ill never be able to go back, its terrifying :'( i was about to vent my overwhelming emotions, but all of sudden it seems so unnecessary
I really do love Tegan and Sara. They don't need any autotune or generic techno beats. They can just sit and play their guitars and sing absolutely beautiful and moving music. These women are simply amazing!
This is my first time hearing this gem; I'm 19, and something happened to a relationship of mine yesterday that makes this song scary relevant. One day off, but what an amazing feeling it is when you relate with a song this much...
well that "shit" they're making now is what's keeping them relevant and letting them continue to make new music. At least they've reinvented themselves in a way that still keep their old audience while attracting a new generation of tegan and sara fans. Besides if they kept making the same type of music now how lame would that be after a decade? Pretty lame.
Even if I know the band not as well as another, but this song- even this song- take me anywhere i want to be in.. It makes me thoughtfully and kind of melancholic, cause I am nineteen and I feel like I have already lived my life.. it's so strange what happens to you if you growing up inside.. My life runs so chaotic and hectic as never before.. Precisely at this time I've lost the love of my life.. So, this song becomes unbelievablely important to me. I just wanna say... Thank you.
TH-cam says I've watched this before but it must have been a loooong time ago. Unfortunately I did not leave a comment for myself to ridicule half a lifetime later! This is a magnificent performance of a really nice song from a legendary record. I always love Sara's backing vocals that they do live (on the studio albums, they each normally do all vocals on a song). Love this! I just learned from the Wikipedia that apparently, Ted Gowans (seated on the left), is the only *true member* of the band who is a guitarist, and the only musician who performed on studio albums in addition to the live shows-with the exceptions of Tegan and Sara themselves of course. Ted departed in 2014, but during his 10 years was an absolutely stellar component of the band. We miss Ted. The Spinner link in the description no longer works (unsurprising), but the site itself appears to no longer exist. Yahoo seems to be sitting on the domain. At least the other 2 videos are still here, but suffering from the old TH-cam 240p degradation thing they do. Now in another 10 years I can come back and laugh at this ridiculous comment I wrote.
One reason I particularly love Tegan and Sara is because they actually can sing. It isn't all recording studio magic, like it is with a lot of artists these days. It's refreshing to hear a current group with such beautiful voices.
I first heard of Tegan and Sara from the NOFX song.. I listen to a lot of punk.. ska.. nothing anything like this, but I am absolutely enthralled with these adorable, wonderful musicians. These two women are absolutely delightful and make such good music.
I think this live performance is even better than the original recording.
agreed
Totally agree
Märit Totten I partially agree but I love the drums in the recording. That is one aspect I have never been 100% happy with even in non-acoustic live versions of this song.
Märit Totten i love the way you can really hear the emotion in her voice
that'll be the autotune
Heard this version before the original and could never go back to original version! Soooo good still in 2022!
Same!
Same here ❤
Sara's harmony during the bridge is so beautiful.
Gab Rose I can't even.. My emotions are too much to deal with haha
This song perfectly captures the horror of losing the love of your life and being completely unprepared and unable to deal with it. It's like drowning in the open air. Eight years on and I still think about her every day and every time I hear Nineteen. T&S understand the human condition like few other bands.
Me too!
My twin and I have been waiting a long time to sing this song on our 19th birthday. And the day has finally arrived. What a time to be alive.
How did it go

You live 80 years. You're old after 40, but you can remain young in your mind for much longer.
Same here. I am 29 now, and first listened this to when I was 19.

SomeWittyCatchPhrase this song alone was enough to make my throat tighten as if I swallowed my own heart but your comment wrecked my feelssss
agreed
Met my ex when I was 15 and I'm still not over her. I'm 27.
This comment gave me shivers while listening to this song
Sending love your way. We've all been there, man. Took the words right out my mouth. We'll never love like that first love.e

I met my ex when I was nineteen , we were together for 7 years and now I cry when I hear this song
Wow, I just so happened to run into this powerful song when I was not only 19, but also experiencing the very essence of it. Definitely an experience to remember. Great job, Tegan & Sara
This was on repeat for me back in 07, when I was 16. Such a trip, still an amazing version ❤️❤️❤️
My first real gf showed me Tegan n Sara in 2008 when I was 16/17. 1991 what's good. (Just a bro lol)
was 19 when this song came out... still one of my favorite songs...
tegan´s voice in this one is just adorable =)))

i dont thihnk a song is supposed to make you cry as much as this does, i am sobbing.
they did so much for me. I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for them.
Biggest facts
Remembering when I was 15 and had a haircut like Tegans, haha. It looked so bad
I did the same thing when I was like 13 hahaha I feel like that cut is made for her and only her
Haven’t heard this song since I was 16 I am now 31 glad I found this song again, brings back memories of my life of sadness, life has and always is full of misery, all you have is yourself in the end 😢
The video that got me into Tegan and Sara.

Still so good. A classic for those with the fortune to have come across it. I feel blessed to have spent so many years with this era-defining band.

Sara's backup vocals are just pristine. Her soft and delicate voice really complements Tegan's. Gawd, I'm so in love!
In my opinion, this is one of their best songs, sang acousticly.
God damn, still singing along aftet 10 years haha
Just saying, this song is amazing but got even more amazing when I realised it was Rose Tyler's song for the Doctor. UUUUGGGHHH!!!!
REALLY!?!?!?!?
Everybody, please just enjoy the amazing lyrics and their incredible voices.

Their haircuts are so cute

Tegan & Sara always make me want to cry and they're like the only music that makes me feel like that.
no other song does this, but when i hear this song, i wanna cry....its soo amazing..i love these 2.
When I play and sing this song to her, I get those feelings back. The way we were in the beginning. I just wish she felt the same.
These girls are the ones that started me singing:) Every time i listen to them it only brings good memories....for once:) finally!!!!(:
