i would really like to see replacement hangers be available. i think most people tend to hit the axle before the base plates are too worn out. i like the idea of replacement kingpins too. if both were available, id probably replace kingpins whenever i wore out a hangar, just for the case that a crack might be developing from normal use (and could be dangerous to leave on the truck that long). i like the inverted thunders a lot, my only issue is they do tend to loosen very gradually as i ride them. if anyone at thunder happens to read this, you guys should totally make a forged baseplate model of the inverted kingpin truck. that would be the ultimate truck in my mind
Why I don’t skate Thunders. Never have liked them, and I bent an axle really easily on the standard ones. Ollied off a curb going down hill and got murdered, hit my head all because of those Trucks. Indy for life! Or Ventures at least. With the solid kingpins. Indy’s the Hollow Inverted Kingpin trucks came out a while back, but no one is reviewing them. Or testing them! They’re crome the Forged Baseplate Hollows IVK trucks. They also released a standard pair with solid IVK. Before only trucks Indy made were IVK “mids” which are short like 50-52mm the hollow mids are 50mm “Reynolds “ Version and standard ones and the Tiago Version is 52mm high
I also with these were available in solid kingpins. I've snapped two or three thunder hollow kingpins, I'm about 180lbs but never skate drops or big stuff, I think each have snapped on small ledge grinds. Each time thunder sent me two spare team baseplates. 10/10 customer service, and I appreciate the extra plate to keep in the car in case another snaps (have yet to snapped a solid kingpin). So now I use hollow axles and team baseplates, but if I had to start from scratch I would just skip hollows entirely.
Thanks for this video, Im currently skating lurpivs and the kingpin sits high, I wanted to setup some of the inverted thunders but now I think ill stick with the lurpivs and just deal with the hangups.
I had the same issue using the inverted thunders broken kingpin few weeks in already having to switch out stock cracked bushings for higher durometer might have to try different truck company next time
I’ve had my Inverted Thunders 148’s for about 6-7weeks now. And I’m loving them. It took forever for the stock bushings to break in but im loving them 😂. Been mostly skating ledges and flat ground flip tricks. I’m really hoping you get a new set that are more durable bro.
Mini logo bushings are my favorite aftermarket replacement, but the hard(red) are a bit too stiff with both top and bottom installed so I’ve been using Indy bottom bushings
Yeah mainly I want to see oem replacements just because different brands have different bushing sizes but my favorite aftermarket are bones bushings usually!
I have a few sets of old grindkings from ‘90s-‘00s in the parts bin. They’re still skateable, just pretty small at 7.5-7.65”. I still ride 7.65” ventures on an 8” board as my primary, just a bit wider wheel like a radial shape. I also have several other trucks with Gk kingpins, and a set of Indy mids
@@cbass801 i've seen people epoxy nuts in standard baseplates to use inverted kingpins. the old baseplates with standard bolt kingpins, the nut and bolt head were same size. so it was easy to stick the nut in the baseplate for inverted kingpins.
I haven't had real issues with it. I also replace my washers and axle nuts frequently. I think as long as the bolts are snug with very little play the axle stays in place better, because I've only really had axle slip issues on indys when I was testing out the foy loose bolt trick.
I used to sometimes put regular kingpins in backwards, just to ‘hide’ the threads in the baseplate so they wouldn’t hang up as bad. I don’t think I’ve broken a kingpin in 30 years
I’m riding thunder inverted kingpins now. I swear I haven’t been trusting the kingpin for some reason. When I turn the trucks with my hands I can see a lot of movement in the kingpin. I think the thunder IKP are flawed if I’m honest.
i stopped skating thunders because my bushings would never last longer than 2 months i liked the way the trucks skated but that bugged me so much i couldn't bring myself to keep skating them they be perfect but as soon as that first cracked appeared i was just done with them and I'm not a very heavy person what so ever underweight for my age tbh xD nor did i skate tight truck because i don't weigh enough to make that work especially with thunders being less turny/surfy than indys which i love and they also the bushing never failed
Some people are always trying to ice skate uphill. They're called trucks for a reason. You don't buy a 1/2 ton to do real man work, you get a 3/4 ton to handle the extra load and abuse.
Thunder inverted have design flaw, as many other inverted brands do…kingpins tend to wiggle, strip and break… regular kingpin trucks are best, best hollows would be the Indy hollows!
I skated the hell out of my thunders for over 15 years never broke anything on the trucks with the exception of bending axles from high impact tricks. Inverted kingpins are a gimmick
They have pros and cons for sure and this is the first major issue I've dealt with, if they would sell hardware kits you could just replace the kingpins on inverts!
I really love the slappy hollow lights inverted kingpins, super solid truck and nice wheelbase for nose/tail slides with minimal wheel contact
I know a couple people that ride slappys and are happy might have to give them a shot!
@ I have tried GK, thunders, indys, royals, tensors throughout my life and slappys are my favorite
The same happend to my Thunder inverted kingpin. I got a new One from Switzerland. I really hope it does not brake again.
Hopefully, these ones hold up! Judging based on other comments I've read, it seems like this is a common issue!

For bushings I really love venom street bushings they rebound like bones, but don’t hemorrhage like bones
You can definitely buy Slappy inverted kingpins both solid and hollow.

Seems like a lot of people are having problems kind of a bummer.

I wish they still made inverts conversion kits. I know you can get ahold of some dead stock ones haven't been forced to go that route tho.

Venture Lows need the inverted kingpin the most.
Have you noticed that thunders are more prone to axle slip?

This makes me wonder if a ton of other people are having issues with it as well?
I've heard good things about Titanium inverted kingpin's (hollows, I think)
i stopped skating thunders because my bushings would never last longer than 2 months i liked the way the trucks skated but that bugged me so much i couldn't bring myself to keep skating them they be perfect but as soon as that first cracked appeared i was just done with them and I'm not a very heavy person what so ever underweight for my age tbh xD nor did i skate tight truck because i don't weigh enough to make that work especially with thunders being less turny/surfy than indys which i love and they also the bushing never failed
Yeah that's why I stress so hard on rebuild kits. Every shop around me only carries indy kits kind of a bummer.
Acer makes a titanium inverted kingpin, stupid low light and strong
hmmmmmm?

After breaking both king pins in a set of grind king trucks a long time ago I avoid inverted king pins
Grind kings had replaceable kingpins tho I think from a money standpoint I'd rather be able to fix it then have to buy a new set
Your not the only one it broke on it broke on a friend of mine too and he’s very light so I think it’s a manufacturing issue
I need some
Sum whut
I have a bin with 30 years of skate parts, old trucks, wheels, misc hardware
That's always a good Idea 💡!
Look up Krux Inverted kingpins.
Thunder inverted have design flaw, as many other inverted brands do…kingpins tend to wiggle, strip and break… regular kingpin trucks are best, best hollows would be the Indy hollows!
I've busted regular kingpins also, yeah inverts are weaker but they are also replaceable.
Destruco inverted kingpin grinds sooo good
Thunders just feel so dainty and fragile compared to Indy and venture. They do skate well and manual so good though
