@@adrianv774 I know, right? Gratefulness and contentment in people are hard to come by these days. Some actually think the world owes them something, anything. Despite all this Stoic content they're consuming, they stay the same.

I lost my mom in 2020, my MIL in 2019, my dad in 2018 & my FIL committed suicide in 2017. I can look back now and be happy I had those people and times in my life, but there’s a sorrow about it all being gone. I’m much closer to my family that I have left.

That closeness to the people still around you is part of the power of meditating on death. Thanks for sharing, Nancy!

Necessary dialog, I needed this. Thank you both for such wonderful insight. I love Alice in Chains. The band Katatonia is also hauntingly beautiful. Melancholic beauty.

I used to listen to sad songs on my headphones before basketball games. Everyone else had rap songs. I was playing Taking Back Sunday to get hype. Lol

I can TOTALLY relate to Ryan being the odd one choosing something totally different from his classmates when he chose a dark Alice in Chains song while they all chose happy songs for the assignment. In the 3rd grade, we had to write about why we were thankful for Thanksgiving and present our paper to the class. While every wrote about being thankful for things like water, electricity, family etc I wrote about being thankful for the aspects of Thanksgiving dinners. I had no idea Thanksgiving was about giving thanks for various things in life, so I racked my brain thinking about the handful of Thanksgiving dinners I've had. I wrote about things like "I am thankful for the turkey we can eat, and the gifts we give each other like coupons or cards."

Thank you for the thoughtful conversation. I related with the idea of embracing the painful parts of life the same as the beautiful parts. Pain and joy are both normal parts of the human experience.

Very interesting guest and subject, suggestion- Ryan multi tasking while the guest is speaking and interrupting when she starts to tell about a quiz she had taken part in are totally distracting

I wish I could devote the entire time to this podcast. Much of it thumbnails a time & location but there are others that I struggle to get through, even though I want to somehow identify with.
    Stories about kids.
Would these be elaborated on if you were with say, Oliver Reed or the equivalent?
I would like to be able to connect with their “bittersweet” reflections and extrapolations.
I am a total woman but it was not nurtured. “Be a good girl”. “Keep quiet”
Sorry but I feel these skills need someone to have listened to you to give them validation.
In the moment, I’m downsizing and severely reducing what I’ve kept as so necessary for the writings I was preparing for. Now I’m truly considering trashing all of these writings associated with early notions of “love”.
I realize now I had no idea what it was. I had never felt that sweetness. Oh well…

Great meditation to start the day. Ethos, pathos, mythos, and logos are all very important when reflecting and doing some introspection. Wayne Dyer and Osho talk about this process as a form of "manifesting destiny"
