I've never liked this kind of toxic positivity atmosphere... There are several studies that show pessimism is also a good thing... Don't let yourself be absorbed by this type of thoughts but be self-critical and rational.

"It's resistance that make us stronger". Thank you, Robert, for this one. As when we are working out, as in life when we face a problem, it's resistance that makes us stronger. Why do we seek resistance in one scenario and run away from it in the other?

I really enjoyed this conversation. I do feel like the anti-vax sentiment has not aged that well. We should definitely be sympathetic to these people. In my lifetime I have seen big pharma wreak havoc and death with the opioid crisis. I’ve lost people to it myself. That crisis was %100 the fault of big pharma. I’d say that’s good reason to treat people with kindness end empathy who are suspicious of the vaccine. Also, the studies can’t be released for 50 years and what we have seen has been heavily heavily redacted. You are them, they are you. You taught me that.

    • @norrell35
      @norrell35 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

The anti Vax sentiment has aged very well. "We have to live with these people," he said. Both of them should be ashamed and never allowed to forget what they've wrought on society. A banishment from the public square is the only acceptable fate.

Thank you for your comment. We are all here trying to learn and be better. I did not agree with the covid vaccine or the many boosters, (especially when government and employers tried to force you) but do not consider myself anti-vaccine at all. Getting words of wisdom from people who don't think like you is a great learning experience on how you handle things. It was a very good conversation.

I want to push back on what robert said about interview preparation, and having a plan in general. What works for me a lot is indifference with confidence. If you understand that thing does not matter(indifference) and that you’re a capable(confidence) it usually goes well. Look you’re not going to be 10/10 in your life, but as long as you’re scoring you can still be playing. 6/10 without stress and anticipation is soo much better

    Hey Ryan,
“To be free of passion yet full of love” stood out to me as well. If you recall the sentence before that Marcus said “not to display anger or other emotions”. So what I think it means is if you’re angry at something you don’t allow yourself to go into a rage(passion) , but you’re still fully aware of how you feel (love). Another example, in romance, passion would be infatuation with the other person whereas love would be a clear on your desire for the other person. In summary I believe he is referring to an Aristotelian mean in a very poetic an eloquent fashion.

He had Stress Molecules in his Blood all the time. This leads to Blood clotting. Paradox. Only with this Lifestyle he was able to CREATE. When we do all to live healthy - we may create too much Stress to stay healthy - Greene is so stubborn - he does not listen to any advice... this killed Steve Jobs...

My practice of stoicism enabled me to harness my emotions as a tool like an actor and then put them away in a draw. A bit cynical maybe but freeing.
I realized that the emotions I used to feel were mostly those of others, a manipulation, energetic vampires but not what I felt whatsoever. There are collective emotions which are very sneaky because they embroil you forcibly. Stoicism and discernment is the same, It's all about the supraconsciousness and I say supra because the consciousnesse can be altered by everything we see in the media etc... But the supraconsciousness is unadulterated. It's this part of you that is not in the body, you can call it spirit guide, that knows what's beyond the veil.
    Gratitude 🙏

@Sk9epx It's not something that you can explain. It's an experience to be lived individually once you intend to break away from the 3D consciousness which is a manipulation in order to keep you in a mental jail. Don't give your consent and live this experience like an actor in a movie knowing that you are more than that on a spiritual level

I've just been searching substantial videos on TH-cam to feel more productive and feel good about how i spend my time as a 22 year old.
This is my first exploration to Stoicism and I didn't even know the word before watching this. Though I'm not that well versed with the philosophies and inspirational people you mentioned, it is amazing how I could still grasp what you were trying to say. I feel that could really understand your points from my own perspective.
I'm grateful to have come across this video. I learned a lot and the video was fruitful the entire duration. Thank You!

Looks like you retrofit your LaSportiva shoes with Salomon lacing system. I’m the only person I’ve known to ever do this, glad to see there are others who have seen the light!

27:28 (I know this post is a year old, but this thought may be relevant to someone). You’re talking about love and it reminded me of a recent conversation. The jest of it was about what “real” love is. My sister insisted it was an emotion. I argued that it requires ignoring your emotions. Love is an action. You are able to DO something when everything in you wants to run away. Think of it this way. Your baby has just ruined his diaper and it’s EVERYWHERE. Your instinct is NOT to clean up the mess. But you do. And you smile and make the baby comfortable and happy. You don’t act angry or put out. You DO what needs to be done. That’s love.

As a child around the age of 5-6 I would have a dream about being in darkness but not Scary. I felt totally content, like waiting my turn. It was dark so that juxtaposition always was odd and noticeable to me because as a child everything that's dark is kind of scary. , and I would snap from the darkness to like the form of a circle and the circle would begin rolling along (I'm viewing it from like a one-dimensional view) ... the circle would speed up and get out of control which would cause the line to wobble in destroy itself. The dream would allow me to start the circle over again, when I did I was conscious of slowing the circle down kept the circle in control without getting its lines scribbled about. But once you took your focus off of the circle sped up and crashed. I always reflected on the feeling of peace and serenity I experienced those times as a child dreaming that particular dream. Try to put myself back there.

I struggle to understand how Stoicism can be so fascinating that one is impelled to revolve an entire life around it

Modern society makes it tougher and tougher to use Stoicism in handling the life's difficulties. Through social media, lives and reputations can be irrevocably damaged. There is no philosophy that can mitigate this reality.

I do notice it’s hard to almost become narcissistic about the world and others who are not…mainly because this way of thinking is so much so on a higher level of thinking than the majority of this ultimately primal world.

    RIP everyone everywhere.
In disasters, the body is destroyed, but the soul is released and with us forever.
This will pass folks for all of us. Stay strong and ready to defend yourselves alway, if the need arrives.
Listen to Marcus Aurelius for your mental help. Stoicism rocks. All of them.
Celibacy rocks ladies. Close your legs, mouth and sleep on your back alone. Never shack. I married at 27 and 31, and was a virgin. I never shacked, and I married. First hubby was 8 years older and the second husband was 22 years older, and he died at 67 of a heart attack.
We had one daughter, that I raised from conception at age 37.
I worked for my income , and my life never depended on a man. I had plenty platonic friends all over the world, and I was raised to have morals. I thank my great grandparents, who raised me
to care for my body, and do not be a whore, or have a baby out of wedlock.
