Shumi! Such a great topic and I appreciate your take on it. As a woman rider, a wife , daughter , mom of 2 and daughter in law, I have fought to ensure that motorcycling is understood to be an intrinsic part of my life( to a very supportive family at that! ) However, underlying tones of it being selfish, inconvenient & tolerated are rife! 😬 “ Why can’t we just all go in the car like a normal family?” Well, “because Mom is selfish and wants to ride her motorcycle though the hills, feel the wind and just basically , enjoy the alone time” . There, I said it - I’m selfish! 😀

Shumi is always measured in his takes, love to see that, I think semantics on the word selfish can be argued as whatever 99% people agree on the meaning is the meaning. Subjectively speaking I don't enjoy riding a bike, statistically speaking it's the kind of activity I try to avoid if I want to keep my chances of living a long life fairly high, road in india are a subject I don't want to start, here in the US it's a completely different thing, I see many doing it safely

Hey Shumi, I love this video, I agree each and every point you said. While buying Duke 390 2017 my wife asked why such a costly bike you want. But after riding together to various places for almost 3+ years, now we have a small kid, my wife feels very happy about moments we spent together on the bike. And thinks, when can we ride like that once again. Memories are the most valuable things. When we have age on our side we can do certain things, and definitely motorcycling is one of those things which shouldn't be missed in my opinion.
Motorcycling is empowering from within. It rekindles your zest for life, away from the the mundane chores. It is like a state of zen, whatever non - motorcycling people may call it. Fabulous discussion. A topic often thought but never spoken. A barrier in translating the inner fire to most special people in life. “Get them to your side of the river”, has been an absolute challenge. I was almost going ahead with my plans of purchase, but after watching this, I shall try my best to convince her to come my side of the river and only then purchase. Thanks Shumi, you’ve cut out my work for the immediate future.
Venturing a bit off topic here, but Shumi talking about Arti just brought a tear to my eye :') This is the first time I'm seeing you talk about your personal life with such depth. No words here. Much love Shumi 💜
To answer Shumi's question, yes motorcycling is selfish. I acknowledge the fact anytime I go for a ride. I know an unfortunate accident is inevitable, risks are just too high. I try to minimize that by using my gears all the time. I try to ride responsibly as much as I can do, and I avoid riding when I feel I'm too emotional for it. I don't appreciate people going into motorcycling without considering the risks. It's your life whatever you wanna do with it, but understand that death is still better than having your spine damaged or losing a limb. People need to understand the risks of riding. Take a calculated decision
I love the use of the term Motorcyclist.. Motorcycle.. Not biker, Rider, Provider.. I am a pure Motorcyclist at heart and can relate 🙏🏽😊 Thanx Schumi..
No no no…. Not a Rand admirer please Shumi! But absolutely accurate points on the quality of gear for the pillion rider and awareness about the risks of motor cycling.
Damn. This guy can talk. And it's not his diction. It's the way he is able to communicate his thoughts with the perfect most words. I am subscribed to this channel to hear Shumi speak.
I love cars more than motorcycle because cars give me cosy feeling and I am more relaxed. Also I like to sit in car and enjoy hot tea while visiting rainy places. Also travelling with friends with music playing and casually relaxing while it's raining outside is simply blissful
Now a days Riding Bikes or Cars with safety future is must & important. And more then that Safety Futures, I think listening & following to Shumi is also very important. .... .. Thanks Shumi......
Motorcycling brings a whole new perspective to travelling, but when you think of a pillion during your road trip many would prefer bus , train or car. It’s more about comfort vs experience. I strongly believe travelling on your bike makes you to join hands with the forces of nature thereby makes you attentive and enjoy the experience along with memory creation. If you have a partner who prioritise experience over comfort then there is no need to worry about being selfish.
This was absolutely brilliant man!! Hard hitting and practical. Forget about only motorcycles, this holds true about life. Especially loved the part about living fully before dying. Hopefully we have no regrets when it’s checkout time. Take care and keep sending great content our way. Cheers
Hey shumi !! A great podcast, I am a pre-final yr engineering student. My parents support me financially to fullfill my motorcycling needs but on each and every ride while I leave the home, they are always so worried for me.. sometimes I do feel i am being selfish...
It's true what you said about couples riding together on different bikes. I and my husband do that a lot in last 7 years. But recently i met with an accident. Almost dead. Bedridden for past three months with major injuries. With five surgeries already done. We had a proper gear like you said(alpnister and bell helmet, knee guard all) . But what i didn't expect is this big a accident. The risk was always at the back of my mind , where the fun and aderaline was always first. I read somewhere,"two wheels move soul" that's what happened. So now I want some advices on such accidents and how to cope up as well. Ppl /mostly my family members said , I am selfish and that's why this happened- the accident. Because we delayed having kids and all we did was biking all these years. They say if we had kids, we wouldn't be biking and would have avoided this accident that almost killed me. So m saying, i dont regret biking. I love it. Jus be prepared for anything. Nothing is under your control completely. Even bikes sometimes don't. But that doesn't mean you haven't lived a amazing selfish life 😅 like he said everybody does one day, how you lived matters more. That doesn't mean you have to go rash. Means you go at your own pace, with your own thoughts. Bikes are bliss. Thank you for this video. Glad to know your thoughts. As always powerdrift rocks !!!
It's just a matter of managing your finances right. And you can always work hard, earn more money, and buy better gear. "Good gear" is what suits your budget perfectly and in which you feel safe putting your skin.
This podcast by PoweDrift is very good. The way Shumi explain things is amazing. Complex topics in such an easy understandable language. Covering all the useful topics 👌🏻
Just WOW !! Although I'm late today watching this video but Boy oh Boy !!!! My perspective towards my one and only hobby has been changed .... Thank you so much Shumi for such a comprehensive and lovely explanation..... Loved it 🥰
It is not selfish and that is not a polarising debate. What is selfish and immature is seeing guys in big bikes with Alpine stars jackets, et al, with their wife or girlfriend in jeans and chappals
Made so much sense....I agree that Motorcycling is selfish....however the rationale and logic of communicating clearly 'hit' home like anything....Kudos to Shumi for coming up with such great topics....I am a recent inductee in to the biking world having bought my first bike....I am 'hooked' to these podcasts...keep em' coming...thanks so much
Shumi at his best. Another wonderful topic well explained. Thanks for simplifying our lives and giving a perspective. Taking my wife to motorcycle showroom to buy her riding gear... Let's see if I can start my big bike discussion after that
Letting me wasn’t ever a choice she had or chose to exercise. That’s the flaw. Partners shouldn’t get to choose for you. They can have opinions, but the choice MUST be yours
Great Shumi, I think when I am riding at least I am occupying lesser space in comparison even to a small SUV. And the fun that I am having is unparalleled.
Loved this episode.... Gave me so many things to think about especially having my partner's safety in mind and also the bike fund part..... Loved it bro 🤜
I have a highly stressful 9 to 9 job (who doesn't at this point), and I would rather decompress with a weekend morning riding than drinking alcohol or smoking up (college days, guys?) every evening. If I don't, I would be grumpy the entire week and a much more difficult person to deal with. That's selfless.
Some consider riding to be equivalent to meditating. Do also consider this - there will weekends when your family / partner wants you to spend your time with them. As much as they understand your desire to head out every weekend, you must also understand their desire to be with you doing stuff they love.
I realise that. And on those days, I binge watch @@powerdriftofficial videos in the evening. 😝 JK. I wasn't serious about religiously riding every weekend no matter what your partner is going through. Was just trying to make a light hearted point. There are bad days and worse days, but having an understanding and accomodating partner makes it all a bit easier to bear.
I would like to see a video of what all things we need to discuss with our pillion rider who doesn't know to ride, before going on a ride to make it more comfortable

I don't appreciate people going into motorcycling without considering the risks. It's your life whatever you wanna do with it, but understand that death is still better than having your spine damaged or losing a limb. People need to understand the risks of riding. Take a calculated decision
Yes!
This is an eye opener for many people. Loved it Shumi!
Why not? I’m not asking you to be…
The way you put things into words is phenomenal. You just great Shumi sir🙏
Shumi always nails it on point with accuracy!!!I really admire you Shumi as a great knowledge encyclopedia about Motorcycling!!!❤️❤️❤️✨✨✨🏍️🏍️🏍️🏍️🏍️
Cleanly described the issue! Again a well made podcast from the house of PD! Waiting for the next one soon!
Damn. This guy can talk. And it's not his diction. It's the way he is able to communicate his thoughts with the perfect most words.
I am subscribed to this channel to hear Shumi speak.
Please keep em coming , this one was so on point ❤️😀
I love cars more than motorcycle because cars give me cosy feeling and I am more relaxed.
Also I like to sit in car and enjoy hot tea while visiting rainy places. Also travelling with friends with music playing and casually relaxing while it's raining outside is simply blissful
So much passion . Every word is from your heart .
Now a days Riding Bikes or Cars with safety future is must & important. And more then that Safety Futures, I think listening & following to Shumi is also very important. .... ..
Thanks Shumi......
Man this guy must be great to listen to in person .
Thank you very much!
I like listening to me for sure!
That's why I learn from you. 😁 ✌
This is one of the best episodes. Thank you so much Shumi, for sharing your experiences. Btw, loved the Ayn Rand reference.
Thank you very much!
This was absolutely brilliant man!! Hard hitting and practical. Forget about only motorcycles, this holds true about life. Especially loved the part about living fully before dying. Hopefully we have no regrets when it’s checkout time. Take care and keep sending great content our way.
Cheers
@Shumi - One of the best video ever made, loved the way you expressed the passion for motorcycling !
i already respected Shumi sir a lot. now that i know he is an Ayn Rand fan too, respect has increased 100 fold
Loved the topic and your views ❤️
It's just overthinking, nothing else. Don't let this planted onto your head guys ...
It’s not selfish it’s selfless!!
Happy makar Sankranti to all team power drift. Especially my automotive professor shumi sir my best wishes to you sir.. ❤️
Do what you love even if its selfish
The content PD is providing is just awesome 🙌
Excellent Podcast!!! True words!
Such videos hold so much value
Very very well said indeed.. get well soon and get back on a bike.
@@chakrapanid6089 thank you. Recovery road now. Will be back on bikes 😊
Shumi, you are really into motorcycling, seems to breathe, eat, sleep motorcycle...
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience
God bless you.
I have decent gear, but your definition of average priced gear makes me feel poor.
well, his down-payment is thrice the price of my motorcycle 😂
Just give it time. We all started somewhere. The important thing is 1. You started. 2. It’s a start not the finish.
Thank you for being so kind.
Thanks Devesh!
Just WOW !! Although I'm late today watching this video but Boy oh Boy !!!! My perspective towards my one and only hobby has been changed .... Thank you so much Shumi for such a comprehensive and lovely explanation..... Loved it 🥰
Thanks DP!
Always welcome sir
It is not selfish and that is not a polarising debate. What is selfish and immature is seeing guys in big bikes with Alpine stars jackets, et al, with their wife or girlfriend in jeans and chappals
Very well spoken about passion and personal life ... Thank you Shumi
A much needed discussion...thank you power drift.
Motorcycling is Zen & that Zen is Shumi !
Let's see if I can start my big bike discussion after that
Best of luck!
These podcasts are so educational. Would love to have sitdown podcasts where we have a guest as well.
Can do!
A toast to Aarti ma'am... For letting you pursue your motorcycling career and moulding new motorcyclists & making such great content for us all!
Letting me wasn’t ever a choice she had or chose to exercise. That’s the flaw. Partners shouldn’t get to choose for you. They can have opinions, but the choice MUST be yours
The video post 10:00; simply brilliant
Man! Thanks for this. It was a good talk! Something I'll definitely have with my kid :D
pheonomenal Podcast! I need to hear this guys. All of you make a difference!
We need more such good podcasts discussing the day to day things 😃
A Brilliant talk. Very mature and wise. Great going, Schumi!
Every bit of the video makes a lot of sense! Thank you
Great Shumi,
I think when I am riding at least I am occupying lesser space in comparison even to a small SUV. And the fun that I am having is unparalleled.
All my ears on TRK 251 just outside the studio, I badly want shumi to review the bike 🤩 keeping my fingers crossed
Y do I listen to u ...? U make sense every time
Thanks Suraj!
With great horsepower, comes great responsibility. Another fantastic Power-Pod.
Loved this episode.... Gave me so many things to think about especially having my partner's safety in mind and also the bike fund part..... Loved it bro 🤜
Shumi , it's just a pleasure watching you speak , my older brother :)
JK.
