    I agree with Matt Mcallister, I always wear a clear visor for that reason. I'm always able to get eye ball on people, it does cut down the number of people pulling out on you. What a brilliant 30 minute run! You're a lucky man. Is it wrong to be jealous????

      TheMissendenFlyer I agree with Kate. I'd like to see that video too. Just using the session 4 myself so no vlog for me. I like the Rst jacket but as per your review, they didn't half put the word adventure all over it.

    Must say it was nice to come along on your ride today of no special purpose. Appreciate all the hard work you been putting in recently on the various bike and kit reviews, but it was good to just get out with you for a blast round the local countryside, very enjoyable! Cheers.

      In the video TMF talks about motorists pulling out on one, and I've noticed that slowing down and watching their eyes, looking if they're looking at you, is a fairly decent gauge of whether they'll pull out or not.

    Great video TMF, I'm based quite nearby and that's one of my favourite runs. Watching that made me feel as if it was me enjoying the ride especially as work commitments coupled with miserable weather has kept me indoors.
    Regarding your point about motorists you can never be too careful and the best accessory I bought was some progressive training with a class one, ex Police motor rider. The don't like to call it Advanced training because that takes the fun out of it! I only needed a couple of days training and do a refresher day once a year. If you want his details or know more please send me a PM.

      Ocean Blue R1200GS Adventure LC, White R1200RT LC and a bit of an odd ball; Red Moto Guzzi V97 Conversion (essentially a V9 Bobber with the V7 tank and seat conversion - I don't like the look or riding position of cruising bikes, so had one converted to resemble an old fashioned/new bike with more performance than the V7)

    Hi TMF, I've just watched your first impressions review of your new long term bike the tiger 800. What would you say would be the better for weekend blasts and the odd trip away somewhere. Would you say the new tiger sport? Or the tiger 800? Would love your opinion. Thanks as always for your regular videos and brilliant content! Jon D.

      Matt McAlister It happens to all R6's. The speedo becomes blurry over 30mph due to vibration. Yamaha have been looking into it for years. Still the same on the new model. Strange hey Matt!

    Interesting you mention people looking at you but pulling out, as a light aircraft pilot do they cover saccades in your training? All sorts of fascinating stuff about how we see and the information the brain assumes when delivering an image to us.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed they do - when you fly by Visual Flight Rules ("VFR" - as I do) it's up to you to "see and avoid" other aircraft and that means moving your vision from place to place rather than fixating on any one point....I'm sure there is some of that at play here too as you imply....

    • @lurchonabike
      @lurchonabike 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're on Facebook, there's a page called Survival Skills, they cover this kind of thing regularly, and there's a history of all their topics on their website. Insightful stuff.

    You seem to be enjoying the Tiger 1050 Sport nicely :) you certainly seem to be able to throw it into the bends nicely and use that gorgeous triple 1050cc engine nicely! Let us know if you get the speedo issue resolved. I borrowed a loan Tiger 1050 from my dealer that had a speedo issue ...

    Hi, thanks for the video. Is there any chance to finding out if the 2016 Tiger Sports and later has a gear Position Indicator.

  • @LenScapoff
    @LenScapoff 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a former owner of a Tiger 1050, and given what you are learning from your extended test of its current successor, what would make you choose the R1200GS over the Tiger Sport, given your riding requirements, notwithstanding the rather large price difference? Are the more extensive electronic features of the GS, including the ability to integrate a sophisticated sat nav unit, worth the extra, or is there even more to it than that?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Several people have asked me that - difficult one. The GS is the more sophisticated package and the better all rounder, but the price difference is substantial as you say....whether the GS is worth that difference I'm not so sure....

    I'm about to mail-order a custom designed comfort seat (from Top Sellerie, France) for a Tiger 1050 Sport which I've paid to be delivered, but not yet received. My new bike is the same colour scheme as the one in your videos. I want to make sure the trimmings and stitching on the custom seat I'm about to order match the colour of the stripes on the wheels and tank/forward fairing. Would you say they are green, lime, or yellow?

    A fantastic watch, as usual!
    Regarding people in cars etc pulling out on motorcyclists at junctions and roundabouts, would a video dedicated to that subject be a good idea, with you and an expert on the subject of motorcycle safety presenting it?

    Is that the 800 or the 1050? Is it something you would spend your spondoolies on?
    Thinking of getting myself a tourer as already have a '08 Speed Triple (which I bloody love!)
    What's your top choice for these types of bike? I'm looking at spending no more than £7k of possible.
    I see you have a GS so try not to be too biased 😉
    Cheers

    Good vlog as always from a fellow aviator & biker (although my flying is my job (FO 747) so not as much fun as yours probably.. ;-) Anyway, I'd be interested in your thoughts on airbag vests/jackets, have you ever tried one? I'm thinking of buying one for the same reasons as you mentioned regarding your every second day roundabout roulette. Cheers old chap.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ....your flying is more lucrative however....I love the idea of the airbag vest but I've not tried one. I understand they are tethered to the bike and deploy when you come off, a bit like making a wheels up landing (2 types of pilot: pilots who have done it and those that are about too) I can imagine the very real possibility of getting off the bike and forgetting to untether and hence deploying the airbag unintentionally...so I've not gone there....(yet)

    • @MrBiggles
      @MrBiggles 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer I've read that they won't deploy if you just step off and forget to untether as they require an 'x' amount of sudden force (i.e. Falling off etc) to deploy. Anyway I'll look forward to your new vids as always 👍 All the best, BVJ.

    I trust that you have a more reliable speed indicator in your Tobago?! Ahhh, the turbine like power delivery: I ran a BMW K75 flying brick triple for a while and likened that to flying a Vampire with a DH Ghost jet engine, whereas riding the GS reminds me of a Sopwith Camel. I must stop reading Biggles books!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey TMF - not sure if you've discussed this topic, but would really like to hear your take on tinted visors in the UK. Obviously you're using one in this video and there is so much conflicting information on the subject. What's legal what's not, what you can get away with and what not? Cheers!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I've not discussed that - not sure there's much to say other than dark tints are illegal but the police don't seem to care (I have dark tints on all my helmets and have never been pulled up because of it)...I think if you went for a mirrored finish you might get pulled though....

  • @BordersBasher
    @BordersBasher 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi TMf I'm really liking your videos on the tiger 1050, just a couple of things that intrigue me. Do you think it's just the extra cylinder that makes the Tiger pull better than the GS or is there more electronic trickery going on? And do you think it's baby brother the Tiger 800 would much less of a machine to ride? Awesome videos, I watch every one and enjoy your way of thinking. Cheers and ride safe mate.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Chris - yes the triple engine does have a certain character about it that I love, nothing to do with electronics (the GS has far more electrickery than the Tiger Sport). The tiger 800 feels more like the GS to ride and is obviously a completely different style of bike - good bike though just depends what you prefer the look of and if you're contemplating off-road I guess. Did you see my Tiger 800 review some months back?

    • @BordersBasher
      @BordersBasher 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply TMF, I don't think I did catch it no so I shall go take a peek thank you. I am looking at a touring bike to go around Europe later this year and pondering. I have a few in mind but as it won't be used as often I'm thinking whats the need of anything near or over 1000cc. Like yourself I too like the sound and torque of the triple engine, it's like magical wizardry going on that as you twist you can't let go ha ha.

    That type of van is limited to 50mph on single carriage rd,displaying the national speed limit,so it's not their fault for holding cars and bikes up! Anyway,bikes like this..vstroms,tiger 1050,versys etc,will do the job much the same as GS's,KTM's,Multistradas etc,and cost thousands less! But people must have big Horse power,Exclusive badges on the fuel tank etc. Enjoyed your review:-)

    It's bizarre the way a motorist can even make eye contact and still venture out into an on coming motorbike.
    I've heard the average car drivers brain doesn't recognise the shape of a motorcyclist, thus ignoring it.
    Why I don't know. Perhaps the fact that even in 2017 a motorbike is a rare sight so the brain isn't conditioned to recognise it like it would a car. I know for a fact though that the speed of a bike will make it invisible till it's right on the car. I agree with your point about car drivers joining a major road from a minor or the roundabout scenario you mention.
    Again they have to be treated like they haven't seen you.
    It's a dangerous mode of transport, but such a rewarding way to travel as well. Ride safe TMF.

    • @michaellilley6725
      @michaellilley6725 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't think the shape of the vehicle has anything to do with it, and the eye contact is not so they are acknowledging they have seen you, and intend to give you right of way. Drivers today are too self centred, and always trying to shave even seconds off their journey times. They look at you as if to say I've seen you, but quite honestly I don't give a hoot who has right of way, I'm going for it anyway and I know you've got your eye on me so it'll be O.K. The same is true coming off a roundabout onto a two lane road with parked cars in the left lane. I always choose the right lane, knowing I will be a bit slower getting away from the roundabout, because the left lane is slightly further forward, and the right lane closer to traffic emerging from the right. Sure enough , just as you approach the parked cars, which are of no obstruction to you in themselves, the car on your left, not wanting to be blocked in, slower down or God forbid have to stop momentarily, speeds up and pulls right across the front of you, most of the time without even indicating their intentions. So frustrating is all of this I am planning a couple of letters, one for car manufacturers to tell them to stop wasting money on side windows and indicators, since both seem to be impractical to modern motorists. The other to the local council, to suggest that zebra crossings are a waste of money, considering we have imaginary ones every foot along every road. I might also suggest they utilise roundabouts for light up advertising billboards, perhaps for local eateries, amenities etc, because at least that way we would have an idea of places to look out for. Since we can't actually look out for cars and other road users due to being unable to see past bushes, trees and now advertising billboards for your nearest wooden plank supplier ( MDM sponsors this roundabout) What thick plank in the council planning department, decided it was a good idea to block the view of approaching motorists, by using advertising boards set on steel posts,. at and above drivers eye level, the profits from which are probably used towards the upkeep ( trimming and replanting) of the bushes shrubs and trees, which when they grow too large obstruct the driver's views. Sorry for the rant but it really is a Mad world out there, I've even had a local minister's wife, herself a school teacher, pullout in front of me at a roundabout, whilst emptying the contents of a packet of crisps into her mouth. This same woman is a healthfood freak, and was probably at that moment in time, minutes away from force feeding her children some celery and carrot sticks. Stay safe my biker buddies!! Now with LED street lights and the obsession with dark clothing in winter, who knows what may come leaping out of the Shadows?!!

    Thanks for the vlog. Sorry to correct you but having a Cathedral is not the indicator of a city, eg Kingston upon Hull is a city (City of Culture 2017) but it does not have a Cathedral. City status has to be granted by the reigning monarch. Keep up the good work.

      I did say it was a general rule....there are several Cities in the UK without cathedrals as you rightly point out....

    Great vlog...better road positioning would give you a better view and less heart stopping moment. I agree roundabouts are a nightmare

      I'm keen to learn how my road positioning could have been better - if you watch the clip before the lady almost pulled out on me, you can see I'm in position 3 on the road putting max space between me and any cars pulling out, when I see the car emerging I move right to the centre line (and indeed cross it at the point where she is pulling out)....what could I do better/different??

    • @alanjones8257
      @alanjones8257 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be the angle of the camera but at 6.42 it looks like you are in position 2 you see her and move to position 3, then cross the white line and then back to position 2. Imho if you had been in position 2.5 or 3 (provided no oncoming traffic which there wasn't') then she would seen you earlier and you would have seen her earlier. Sorry I was trying to be constructive.

    Good video, entertaining as always. Shame about the unnecessary dig at John Major's integrity.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't a dig, I said "He doesn't strike me as a liar". To then say "...but he is a politician" was just a recognition that there is a general belief by the public that all politicians lie (a generalisation). Thanks for watching anyway - all the best - TMF

      TheMissendenFlyer Accepted. I suppose I'm concerned that feeding such general beliefs (cynicism) isn't healthy.
      Anyway love your vids, thanks.

    That's it TMF, the Tower for you, now you have given up the location of Chequers on a public forum, ha ha.

      I don't think that one is a capital offence, it's pretty common knowledge where it is (just look at an OS map!)....or follow chequers Lane, or turn left at "The Chequers" pub....

      TheMissendenFlyer it is always interesting on what is common (to the locals) knowledge but still a kind of secret. When I was a lad living on RAF bases, none of them were on OS maps, just spaces where they were. The RAF used OS maps but they had the airfields overlaid. Now you can find everything on Google satellite view!
