You are correct in saying that we all have some sort of resentment for some famous person or persons. But why troll them and tell them and the world that we resent them? We have no idea how much we can hurt people. The tongue is still the most dangerous weapon, but now we have social media to drive the sword even further into someone. The biggest problem is that even though we recognise the problem, we do nothing about it because it is our nature...and we are not willing to change! However, a riplle starts will a little pebble. Can we be that pebble?
I hope so. Hate (and negativity in general) sucks and it can be really tough to deal with and I don't think people realize the consequences of their words sometimes.
I pretty much stopped viewing comment sections because everyone is constantly insulting each other and saying very snarky mean stuff. It’s actually making me dislike our society and culture as a whole I just need to limit my social media and stick to positive stuff.
Great discussion that needs to be heard by a lot of haters. I grew up in the 80’s ( still loyal) and if you didn’t like an artist you just didn’t listen to them. Pretty simple…Haters will be haters and they probably hate themselves. Social media has hurt us more than helped us. The problem with most people nowadays is they can’t mind their own business.. Social media is great for business and education but not personal. I always encourage everyone i know to get off it and go outside or call someone you care about.
everyone has become accustomed to being made to feel important and entitled... we can literally yell out in the air and our smart speaker will hear our demands and just about anything will be hand delivered to our door... we're asked to review pretty much everything at every turn I agree with you but will also add it's not just music or successful people in general... people have become conditioned to complain and that their opinions matter WAY MORE than they really do!
There's a valid distinction between 'hate' and valid criticism. I do agree with you, that a lot of people seem to think that they will somehow get taller if others fall over. I don't have much to say about Taylor Swifts music - I haven't heard much of it - but I do respect her achievements. Likewise for many of the other artists mentioned. Anyway. My two cents. Happy new year.
In my youth I've gotten a lot of "but it's so old" for listening to The Beatles. I was 10-12 years at that point, and everyone in my class for some reason criticized me for it. What I did in return was being super annoyed whenever they talked about their own music. I think that the one thing keeping the "this and that artist sucks" alive, is that people still think that music is a competition, and some music is somehow inferior to other. And that is only encouraged by the success of some popular musicians like Justin Bieber, because people that don't like the music don't think he'd deserve the attention for it, because for them, it's subjectively worse than what they listen to. I think we need more people to just enjoy what they are doing instead of looking what success others have with what they're doing. And not only in music, but in all forms of art and things that inspire us. Lots of those things you've said in your video, but it's really important for me to just write them out, because you definitely got me thinking about them. Thanks for all the inspiring content, hope you have a good start into 2024
I guess that younger music can make you feel old, but I think we tend to hate new music because it takes adults more time to adjust. Like most changes are to us, I presume.
Nice vid Spencer! I only disagree with the argument that all hated people are successful, I think haters hate both successful and unsuccessful people alike, but, of course, only the famous hated people are, well, famous lol But still there might be truth to some haters being a bit more prone to hate on famous people out of envy 🤷
Social media comments are up there with botnets and terrorist recruiters on the list of "worst things about the internet." I'm happy to see the folks commenting on your videos have all seemed pretty nice so far, but if your channel keeps growing, the haters will show up sooner or later. Just remember what you said in this video, when that day comes.
You pretty much summed it up pretty good on this one, I start hating when an artist I like when they are everywhere, for me it's more about hate of the industry , that's the part of me that really likes Radiohead for what they do live, they never play creep, because radio and the industry and commercials play that one song like it's the only song that group ever wrote, as for being old, and listening to modern music, so much of it is not very creativity written, that's why I started listening to your music stuff, because you do some good song writing, hope this answers some of your questions
I feel like this statement "if you have a lot of haters, you're doing something right" is kinda dangerous, putting Kanye West's face in the thumbnail.. He may be doing something right (grabbing our attention), but so do lots of other very dangerous people. I guess you also just put him there for the click, just saying. I get the jealousy part though, everybody has those feelings. Heck I'm even jealous of you for being mentally able to do this youtube thing on a regular basis, while I'm not, though I could technically make similar videos skillwise. But some people grow up to feel happy for others and their success and some sadly never get to learn that. Thanks for a thinker of a video. I'm a fan of your videos and I kind of see myself in them, which I guess is a good thing, since you've got your target group down. Happy new year and good luck to you!
Spencer - I believe on this issue, you've got the tail wagging the dog. It's not "success" that brings on the 'hate'. Success is merely the magnifying glass that appears to amplify the 'hate'. For every example of 'success-hate", there are hundreds of examples of success that most everyone loves. It's not the notoriety - it's the person and what they stand for. Oh - I can hear it now - I'm being judgmental. Guess what? We are ALL judgemental. We just call it "out" because we don't agree with the judgement itself. Judgement is how we choose everything in life - from our life-partner, to a bunch of bananas in a grocery store. Success does not attract haters. Do some people detest success? Yes - that's their own psychosis. We cannot bundle all people into one category. Some people will dislike "successful" people - and for very logical reasons - BUT, it's not the success, it's the personality.
Definitely an interesting take and a lot of good points! And you are 100% about all of us being judgmental. We all judge everything we see, and it cracks me up when people claim otherwise. To 'Judge' has a negative connotation but a lot of time it's positive. If I go to a restaurant and order the steak, that means I judged the steak as being the best looking thing on the menu. When I proposed to my wife, I was making a judgment that she was worth spending the rest of my life with. Without judgement, nothing would happen.
Well, I like Taylor. I don't mind Bieber. But Kanye I really just dislike because he seems like a terrible human. I don't even know any of his songs. Just... The stuff he pulls. Jeez.
1:17 i love this part because i used to be like that , right now i just understand that i need to make my way up without hating others

Exactly jelousy is bad
You are right man. Everyone is so judgmental and vicious on social media it is getting bad
Trust me I'm Lying...read it
@@harrisbeatsfrankou6304sounds pretty interesting thanks for the suggestion
I agree with you, 100% and I think that social media should not allow anonymous comments.

That's a healthy outlook! Why people feel the need to yuck someone else's yum is weird to me.
"It's not that I'm old, your music really sucks" I agree with that statement.
everyone has become accustomed to being made to feel important and entitled... we can literally yell out in the air and our smart speaker will hear our demands and just about anything will be hand delivered to our door... we're asked to review pretty much everything at every turn

you have such a nice way about you and a unique perspective on the world. I’m glad you’re back, and you should do more video essays!

Thank you so much for providing your insight and support. It means a lot. Happy new year!
I'm so happy I found your channel.

Definitely true. A lot of the music I "hated" 15 years ago I love now. It's like once I finally accepted it and learned to like it- it's outdated.
Nice vid Spencer!

Will do! Thanks for watching and providing your perspective. It helps the algorithm and means a lot.

Bro so upset you didn't finish with a song about this issue lmao
I think it's a kind of law of nature, you really have to earn your haters 😂 and if you've got a bunch full you know you've made it
This video sucks !! just kidding - Happy new year !
You stole my line, sir. 😂😂
