    I built one of these kit clocks around 78. Mine was walnut , put together, stained and finished the cabinet! My first major wood project, turned out great. I was in my early 20s. Mine had the moon dial , it kept perfect time!!! You can still get these clocks from Emperor
    They are located in Virginia now.

      This one keeps great time, after I found out the person that built it, cut the pendulum rod a little too short.... I was able to extend the length on it and that's all it took to be a nice time piece...

      @jackoshaw I also built a manel clock which is the same clock as the grandfather clock without the bottom. It was for my daughters 1st birthday, she will be 44 this. Clock is still running perfectly!!!!

    Just bought one of these has 81 (1981 ?)stamped on the back of the mechanism and says made in west germany . Chimes work when I turn the second hand round, but need to get it to run. You can tell it was a diy job as the staining (dark stain) on the wood isn't particularly good, but adds to the effect. It is a lot of character for just £35

    I just inherited that same clock from my grandfather. By chance have you ever had issues with the chimes not going? I hear a click when they are supposed to go but nothing. I’m having a hard time with it. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

      Yes... They are stiff from sitting and not being used... You need to get some good clock oil and oil them up.

    My Dad built this Emperor clock 300m from a kit in 1975. I inherited it. Just started it up today.

    I inherited this clock from my dad. He bought the kit and assembled the clock in 1978. Unfortunately the suspension spring just broke after running for 46 years which I thought was impressive. I replaced the suspension spring but I can't get the clock to restart. The chimes are working. Either I made a mistake doing the repair, or when the suspension spring broke the middle weight got pulled to high , or the chain came off its sprocket. In any case there is no movement, i.e. no tick-tock. I have tried to feel for the chain sprocket but no luck and the sprocket is not visible. Would welcome any suggestions.

      ...First, I would make sure the clock is sitting level... Then I would adjust the beat of the clock... Where the Suspension spring attaches, There is king of a clutch that will move the suspension spring to one sid or the other.... it needs to be adjusted... Remover the pendulum and rod, Take the back off and see if you can't get it to "Tick-to" by hand. Adjust the clutch until it runs by itself without help and without the Pendulum attached... if it does, let it run for a good while....

    I have one of these 300M Emperor clocks with a Jauch movement.
    Does anyone know if its safe to leave the 2 chime weights on each side unwound sitting on the floor of the clock, and only wind the center weight? That way it will run without chiming.
    There is a lever on the right side to turn off the melody, but I see no lever to silence the hour strike. This seems to be a solution, but not sure if that will damage the mechanism running it this way?

    Hey jack, my grandmother has that grandfather clock but one of the weights fell off, or it got pulled off I don’t remember, do you know how or if the weights go back on? If not that’s okay, thank you!

    • @jackoshaw
      @jackoshaw  ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be a hook on the chain for the weight....

      @@jackoshaw thank you, I’m sorry, I don’t know anything about this at all, my Grandmother said when I visited recently that it got pulled up too far and stuck in the top, thank you for answering my weird questions.

    • @jackoshaw

      @@IzzyCat923 If the weights are up too far and stuck at the top, you can take the weights apart by unscrewing the rod that goes through them... I must warn you, They are very heavy when they come apart and there also may be some bearings inside, somewhere.... Not to discourage you, THey are really easy, to reassemble, once you get all the parts unhooked..

  • @kc13658

    Hi jack, how did you fix the weights and the chains being too high up? I just bought this exact clock and it has the same problem. The center weight is so high I can even remove it.

    • @jackoshaw
      @jackoshaw  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a rod that goes through the center of the weights, with a nut on one end.... If you are careful, you can unscrew the weights.... Make sure to hang on to the weights when they come apart. They are heavy.....Once you get them apart. You can take the hook off the chain and re assemble the weight... Hope that helps..

      Should be on the movement. Take the back off the clock and have a look..
