I have traced my ancestry and found out my family is from Scotland, then moved to Northern Ireland before emigrating to America. A great video with an informed and concise explanation of the battle. Definitely a subscriber now, I love learning of our shared past.
I'm a little late to the game with this video being posted a month ago. But this is a very good video and I learned some things as well. Thank you for another quality video! Manu Forti!
My 7th GG is Capt. James MacKay from Scoury, Sutherland, Scotland, who came with Oglethorpe and settled the town of Darien, among others. He left the plantation of Strathy Hall in Georgia. I can trace a direct line to Aed, Earl of Moray. My son's ancestry is the MacKays and the Murrays. I love hearing about the history of the Scotland Highlanders.
Blair Castle as mentioned in this video was and still is the home of the Murray Clan. I think that Moray is another Murray branch or related. They (Murray) originally came over from Europe around the 12th Century. The first being a chap called Freskin reportedly a Norman warlord who's job was to get some control in the area for the newly installed Norman/French King, whose descendants were known as de Moravia (of Moray). Then various other name changes including Moray, and then Murray, and the various branches. It gets a little confusing. So many alliances, deals and dirty deals, and deals gone wrong (cunning plans)..... almost worse than the British series of Blackadder. If your ancestor is of the Moray's, it is likely that we are distantly related as I am a Murray. But there are branches and naughty little family secrets in family trees, so I can't swear to it.

Pass Killiecrankie on occasions and often wondered what happened there. Thank you for explaining so well.
Great video!

Im a McCoy from Australia so not sure if I descend from MacKay's but nevertheless still an interesting video.
McCoy was MacKay however when people pronounced MacKay at immigration in Irish and some Scottish accents it sounded like McCoy
