    When I was 12 I was raped by a neighbor and fell pregnant. My mom refused to let me have an abortion. We both almost died because my body just wasn't ready to carry a pregnancy. It ruined my life. That is a trauma I will probably never move past. Being raped, forced to have a child, the way people treated me, my childhood stolen from me, and dreams that would never be realized because I now had a child to care for. I don't ever want that for another person. This country disgusts me.

      This happened to me 26 years ago, I got used to people calling me a liar a long time ago. And it's a big part of why I didn't ever report the rape. I have a lot of guilt about that because I have to live knowing that he may have done it to someone else and maybe I could have stopped it. In my experience men who are always calling survivors of rape and sexual abuse liars are guilty of crossing lines with girls/women themselves. And the ego of it all --- just because one person believes something does not give them any right to impose those beliefs onto anyone else. It is immoral to force predictable and inevitable traumas upon someone who is not equipped to deal with those traumas, because of someone ELSE'S belief system, especially one that is not supported by any facts or science, but only personal points of view. Those traumas must not be forced upon those who do not share those beliefs. A girl or woman of any age should not be forced to have a baby as a result of rape. The emotional, physical, & mental impacts of carrying a baby from rape would be difficult & it should be the decision of the victim whether they want to carry & give birth (as a result of a terrible act). The rape in & of itself will impact the victim their entire life. A forced pregnancy would only intensify the mental health struggles & have a greater, long-lasting impact on the victim. As far as one medical definition, yes. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. But legally and when it comes to law, they are using abortion to refer to the intentional killing of the unborn child. This is why, in cases where the primary intent is to preserve the life of the mother, they don't legally consider it an abortion. Or, in other words, they consider it an exception in the abortion law. You can argue that this use of terminology is wrong and causes unnecessary confusion, but at the end of the day, the act of "intentionally killing the unborn child" is an act deserving of a distinct term. Like murder vs manslaughter vs self defense killing. They all have minor distinctions. And, at the end of the day, whatever you want to call the "intentional killing of the unborn child", that is the act that the pro-life side is arguing against.
      This is made clear when Mrs. Foster is allowed to clarify her position when the representative after Swalwell allows her to. She states that pre-teen pregnancies are high risk, so since the life of the mother is at high risk and should be protected, she legally doesn't consider this an abortion, so it wouldn't be illegal. But they don't show you that ... all you see is Swalwell saying in interviews that Mrs Foster wants a forced, high risk pregnancy of a 10 yr old... even though she explicitly denies it within 10 minutes of his questioning. Misinformation indeed.

    • @ViFabulous
      @ViFabulous ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pjelpers Thank you for mansplaining the situation. LEGALLY and medically an abortion is the termination of preterm pregnancy whether naturally or medically.. "Miscarriage" is a layman's term. "pregnancy loss" or "fetal demise" are phrases often used when a woman loses a pregnancy before 38-40 weeks. Even "stillbirth" is a layman's term, not medical. Mrs. Foster is a lying, pro-birth ill-informed mouthpiece. Anyone who is against abortion shouldn't have one. They shouldn't dictate what other women may choose and they sure as heck shouldn't dictate what women who are bleeding or having complications that will imperial their life must do.

    • @AppreciativeViewer
      @AppreciativeViewer ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@pjelpers Ohio's only exemptions are to "prevent the death of the pregnant woman” or "to prevent a serious risk of the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman”. These must be proven to an unquestionable extent or else both the Doctor and patient will be charged. But the scope of "substantial impairment", proof of it being "irreversible", what constitutes a "major bodily function", the measure of a "serious risk", and the probability of the woman dying, are all NOT clearly outlined. And since we're clearly not sticking to medical definitions, it gets even muddier. So for one thing, at no point is it written that in these cases is it not still considered an abortion. "Legally and according to the law" they are exceptions where a termination / abortion may be allowed. But these are also sloppily and vaguely written carve-outs that invite a legal nightmare to anyone wanting to use them. They already want to investigate the Doctor in Indiana, so implying that no one will challenge whether an abortion is legally justified just because there are two sentences about potential risk is absolutely laughable. Again, THE DOCTOR IN INDIANA IS ALREADY BEING SCRUTINIZED. Why in anyone's imagination would it be any better if she tried to have it in even stricter Ohio?
      Call it "ending a pregnancy" or "killing an unborn child", if you're picking/choosing an "angle" and legal interpretation instead of abiding by the actual medical definition when talking about a medical procedure, you're playing games with people's lives.

As a Public School Teacher that has a student almost every year that's in a foster home , often born to very young mothers, sadly not uncommon as a result of rape or incest. The lives of these children are heartbreaking.

      @@sarahtiferet598 hey! Thanks for being so polite and thanks for the work you do as a teacher. My aunt is a teacher too and I know how hard is it and how much it matter.
      I can see that the situations of these kids breaks your heart and it should do, for all of us, however the issue I take with this line of argument is it's a logical fallacy to argue for abortion because there are children who are living incredibly hard lives. If we follow the logic then death is better then all potential suffering, so if I have the right to decide my baby should die rather than end up in a forster home where does that end? Should be end the lives of the sick because their suffering is awful? What about those who's mental health makes life unbearable? (We actually have huge initiatives, rightly so, to try to save the lives of people who's mental health is so bad they think it's better to die). What about the elderly, or those who have no hope, or those in 3rd world countries under war, poverty, starvation?
      On the contray, we always celebrate the those the press on dispite the horrible thing they face.
      For example, if a Holocaust survivor could go back and end their life before the camp, but miss out on any of the other things in life would they?
      Well, I don't think any Holocaust survivor would have the same answer but the ones that survived are the only ones that would be able to tell how they personally would answer. We will never know how the dead would answer because they're gone and we have no right to speak for them, or any of the situations I mention above.
      If you asked the kids in your school, "would you rather that you were never born then lived the life you do now?" I don't think every single one of the them would answer yes, although I'm sure they're probably are a few who do feel that way but we only know that because they can tell us.
      Incase of the unborn we decide for them that they would be better dead then to live a certain life. Most people who are alive want to be, even the suicidal don't so much want to die as they want an end to whatever pain they feel that can escape. (I understand this myself as I was suicidal for most of my teens).
      On a personal note, I was abused (in multiple forms) for years by both my parents, and my 3 older brothers. I don't personally think it would be better if I had never been born. I now have a husband and a beautiful baby boy of my own.
      What I believe in is hope, and helping these mothers and kids, especially those who find themselves in these situations. I won't ever stop caring or stop trying to help. I won't ever stop hoping that we can fight and kill the evils that plague the lives of these moms and kids, rather than feeling like it's better to end their lives.

Also true is that there is proper healthcare in these countries so doctor visits and contraception and prenatal care and childbirth does not cost a fortune. So if a woman (or girl😢) suspects she's pregnant, the cost of seeing her doctor doesn't prevent her from doing so until months into a pregnancy.

Women who allergic to birth control or women like me who can't take it due to a health issue shouldn't have to be scared that a condom will break and I will be in a situation that strangers get to decide how I handle it. Women shouldn't have to be scared to have sex with their partners or husband because someone assumes they are just careless and they will be denied life saving health care. I don't see men being denied life saving health care or being told their most private parts of their lifes are no longer private. It's so frustrating. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike orphans, they don't need money, education, or childcare; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. It's almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. It doesn't really matter what happens in the rest of the world. That decision is the crux of a woman's bodily autonomy. To say that is "extreme" is nonsensical, but it does allow her to think that decision is somehow hers to make for others.
    At least Sunny has come to understand this. It is OK for her case, but not her role to decide for others.

    I wouldn't be surprised if many women start electing to have hysterectomies, especially if they've had the amount of children they want. It is horrible that a woman can't have a say over her own body. And what about the states that are against abortion under any circumstances including if the woman's life is in jeopardy. So you're basically saying, if you get pregnant, regardless of the circumstances of how you got pregnant, you will be forced to carry a baby to term even if you have to die to do it?? WTF! I really wish more men would stand up and say this is wrong as well because guess what - a woman/girl can't get pregnant by herself. You impregnating a female who cannot get an abortion makes you liable for child support. So be prepared because Uncle Sam is going to ask you to pay up.

    • @ViFabulous
      @ViFabulous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For decades, OB-GYNs offered women, particularly Catholic women, hysterectomies after having had XX amount of children. The insurance companies didn't have the strangle hold on healthcare like they do today. Doctors would diagnose women with uterine prolapse, not unrealistic after many births, then arrange for a hysterectomy. I'm the last of 8 and I have several friends who were number 6-7-10....Mom went in the hospital for a 5-10 day stay and had surgery. Once the insurance industry took a hold of such procedures and preapproval.... Women used to have their tubes tied, tubal ligation, in the hospital after giving birth . If she had a c-section it was done after the delivery. For vaginal deliveries it would be done the next morning. The philosophy was "the woman knew she was done and people are willing to help after you give birth." Again, insurance monster has interfered with a lot of what used to be routine procedures.

    • @RiamsWorld

      There technically is but it's not clear what the rules around it are according to legal council which is why they went to another state. That's the problem, forcing doctors to have to ask lawyers if they have a sufficient case to save a life. I've known women who had difficulty getting an accurate diagnosis of an ectopic pregnancy, some doctors claiming it's a cyst. Women will die if doctors have to feel like they're rolling the dice on losing their career trying to save someone if a court decides to disagree. Someone could cite that despite many girls dying from pregnancy at that age, there has been a 5 year old and some 6 year olds who survived giving birth. It's hard for a doctor to claim that someone will 100% guarantee die from something, no matter how deadly (people have survived bullets in their skull and portions of their brain missing). So it's best to leave to medical professionals to decide over judges and lawyers whether a pregnancy will risk the life of the mother.

      @@RiamsWorld
      Thank you for your reply. I'm not up on the current Ohio law. It makes sense that the protection exists but is too vague. It also sounds like it needs protections for medical staff that are operating under emergent situations or boarder line instances.
      The legislature then needs guidelines for typical occurrences at a minimum. These obviously should be made by a panel of board certified OBs to cover as many typical pregnancy risks as possible to provide ERs and OBs direction. Then the law should contain language to protect the good Samaritan OB or ER doc that needs to make an emergency decision to protect the life of a mother. It doesn't seem too difficult. Although the age of the mother being the issue may be one of the more challenging decisions for the panel. However, if the abortions are legal until 15 weeks then hopefully, there are very few cases where people need exceptions.

      Maybe put the metaphorical "plug" in a different "outlet" and there's no worries about needing "dialysis" 😉 😀 👍

      @@RustyShackleford360 ...but you do agree that in a metaphor like this nobody would think youre the bad person for wanting out right? It may be only only a metaphor but still a good comparison

      @@laurencebellemare4682 It's a comparison yes.....but not an ideal match. For one, the person who wakes up in a bed strapped to a machine isn't the same as a person who lays down in a bed voluntarily knowing what consequences may come out or the situation.
      Now for this case about the little girl....I get it. It fits. But if we're being honest this is a very small percentage of what abortion is really used for.

      @@RustyShackleford360 the percentage doesnt count all the woman that doesnt report the rape and it doesnt even matter what percentage doesnt matter the reason nobody does an abortion for fun and woman should be able to choose

    That woman should not be there at all if she knew nothing about abortion. Shame on you lady, go back to school and learn more.

    Not just 10 year old,an any year old rape victim should be allowed to have an abortion, adding insult to injury to not allow it.

      It should be easely accessible for everyone if they make exception for rape then theyre gonna ask you To prove it To get an abortion and it Will get complicated why cant we choose for our own body
