As a soldier we have to be completely trained on using AR rifles yet as a civilian you need nothing except an age limit. Come on America this makes no sense. God bless those parents
First and foremost my heart and prayers go to the families. It's still so heartbreaking 😭. It shouldn't take a Hollywood star to be at a white house briefing to tell these so-called leaders in Washington what needs to be done. All they care about is retaining power in Congress. We put them there they work for us. Like Matthew McConaughey stated no one is trying to take anyone's 2nd amendment rights. What about the rights of those children and their families? How many more people especially children will need to lose their lives before Congress come together and DO SOMETHING???
Matthew McConaughey is first and foremost a parent of three children!

If you heard Matthew’s entire speech it was truly impressive. Sara’s tearful comments were so on target and so heartbreaking. Sunny’s simple ‘the difference between right and wrong’ was strong and absolutely true

Try blaming the one that done the shooting, pass all the gun laws you want, criminals and people with evil intentions don't follow laws. There was actually a women in west Virginia that prevented a mass shooting by her having her legal gun.

We ALL have to stand up and vote. And if that vote isn't enough, then maybe we all have to start carrying our own firearms. Sad to say but, as a parent I will do anything I have to to protect my kids or other kids. Maybe when the cops see parents show up with our own guns drawn, they might start to think about this.

Joy made a great point. Members of Congress who keep getting reelected can serve as long as they can while the President can only serve for two terms. Most of these same oldheads who have been in Congress too long for money and power need to go. The example she gave is Senator Chuck Grassley from Iowa who is almost 90 years old and only cares about keeping everything. Republican. He should be at home enjoying retirement.

Matthew's speech was touching and Mr. Reyes account of what he and his students endured is heartbreaking, frustrating and maddening. Gun safety should be a non-partisan issue, but as long as the NRA funnels their cash to politicians this issue won't be properly addressed. It's a man made problem, not a natural phenomenon like a tornado or hurricane.

I think this is the first time I got really emotional watching the view. The teacher interview literally had me in tears. It's so sad that we have a group of people aka the Republicans stalemating any kind of progress for gun legislation. They honestly care about their jobs and money more than the people of this country like Joy said. The system is broken and I don't see it being fixed anytime soon.

They should have called the cops. The cops should've stormed the school immediately. The teacher should've locked the door. How many people dropped the ball ? Regarding the photos, some victim's families are afraid that if released publicly, the photos would be used maliciously by bad people. Edit: but I do think politicians should be put together in a small room and forced to look at the Uvalde, Parkland, and Sandy Hook crime scene photos.

I think in a controlled environment where no pics can escape that every member of Congress should have to view pics of the crime scene, the mutilated bodies of little kids. Fully agree that there should term limits for all people in authority positions. Why a president cannot be in power for more than 8 years, and yet congresspeople, judges, and others can be elected indefinitely or for life? It just make no sense.
Some people don't see term limits as the answer because what if you have an elected official who is doing a good job, should they be hindered by term limits.
Sure wish Biden had a term limit so we could get this country back to being great again.

My husband, Ret. Orlando Police Officer Gerry Realin, was a Pulse Nightclub First Responder. We changed the law here in Florida after the Parkland Shooting. The day before the Parkland Shooting I testified in front of the Florida House during Committee weeks.
I said "How many more people have to die before you guys understand that we are losing First Responders to PTSD related suicides because of what they are seeing after these tragedies". The next day February 14, 2018 the Parkland Shooting happened.
My heart sank...... I called all the Senators and House of Representatives to go and see the Parkland School in person for themselves. So that they could understand.
That evening they understood. And it changed our laws here in Florida.

I just watched some of the House Congress Hearings about Gun Policy ----- and my goodness --- it's a slap in the face of those families that they are minimizing their tragedy to MENTAL HEALTH only and HARDENING schools.

Keep the firearms legal -- yes --- but there is no need for semiautomatic weapons in the hands of civilians. NO NEED. We are are supposed to be a civilized society - not in war with each other in order to be carrying an AR15 --- SMH.

Because the AR 15 and pump action shotguns are recognized as “Long Guns” we have a constitutional right to own them while we have much stricter enforcement against handguns.
It took me 1 HOUR to buy my AR-15 here in NEW YORK.
All I needed was a driver’s license and background check.
It took me 2 years to get my Handgun permit.
I needed:
A) my driver’s abstract
B) $288 of fees
C) 4 character statements from 4 friends
D) publicly notarized documents.
E) Proof of residence
If you want to contend that we have a greater danger from A.R. 15‘s then we do from handguns then it would make sense that AR 15 purchases should have to go through the same level of scrutinization that a handgun purchased must go through.
That said: if I wanted to walk into the gun store right now and buy another A.R. 15 or shotgun it would take me less than one hour.

We, as the American public, need to see those photos. Perhaps it could also change voters who previously voted for NRA back politicians to change their minds and vote for someone who can make change happen.
