@@CFC101 I’ve been arguing this in a bunch of comments I wasn’t saying he was heroic at all lmao. If anything I’ve been arguing more that he’s kind of a sleazy unstable fuck and this theme highlights it
I would be totally cool with Toby polishing this up a tiny bit and shoving it into his weird route fight. BIG SHOT is undoubtedly one of Deltarunes best songs but I love the idea of his weird route theme dropping most of the Spamton motifs and fully basing itself of power of NEO / TWR
contextually though why would that fight's music embrace more of the power of NEO stuff? That fight is spamton trying to stop you from pulling the rug from under his feet after he finally got everything he wanted, it's very spamton-centric
@@TheCappuccino04 personally I think this for a few reasons 1. despite you both being villains, Spamton is slightly more “heroic” seeing how he’s trying to take down a mass murderer (even if he sold you the thorn ring, you have to kill everyone on your own terms for him to even sell it) 2. Power of NEO fits because it’s a 1 vs 1 with the Neo body just like in Undertale 3. Having more of The World Revolving makes sense because you’re already breaking your strings going off on a path you were never intended to take I know he’s fighting for selfish reasons, but I imagine darkeners would be rooting for your destruction, and maybe even reluctantly cheer for Spamton Edit: completely forgot that this version has THE HOLY motif, which plays when in the fountain room. So listening to this again and then BIG SHOT, I notice that, this definitely works perfectly as a prelude for Spamton NEO, but absolutely doesn’t work for the actual Spamton NEO. The reason for this is because despite the idea that this song is for Spamton, it doesn’t fully feel like it belongs to him since it holds more of its original form/base of Power of NEO, unlike BIG SHOT which is a very Spamton centered theme, which holds pieces of Power of NEO but heavily corrupted by Spamton’s influence. In summary, this song is Spamton shining through Power of NEO, while BIG SHOT is Power of NEO shining through BIG SHOT, which is more fitting
@@CFC101 I honestly really like this because it’s so power of neo centric, it plays up Spamton more like the Schaft schevey virus he is, but you make good points
Power of NEO and Power of Spamton have such a depressing feel I can't really explain. It does capture the vibe of an entertainer putting on some bravado while at the same time already knowing what they're doing isn't going to work and everything has gone to [SHIFT KEY]. Spamton's real fight theme was still more fitting though.
Looks like this theme would probably start off with a fakeout of it being Mettaton Neo. Imagine he's only a silhouette until the Spamton theme kicks in.
this soundtrack is just feels less chaotic... it feels like completely broken, weird-wrong feeling, sad, and something surrealistical in it. ... like spamton itself.
I have seeing the comments, and I'm gonna be honest, Dead Ringer is a heroic version of Spamton, and he is NOT a hero. He's a desperated guy who wants freedom in any way he can, in snowgrave, he is a bad guy who helped you to destroy everything to he claim his own (he don't care about Freedom anymore). Dead Ringer would be if he tried to stop you from killing since the beginning. But yea, this would be a great weird route theme for him. I love Dead Ringer btw.

Btw this is an unfinished unused track toby fox shared in the newsletter, he said he wanted to make a real neo fight in deltarune and eventually that evolved in spamton neo and made a whole new track for it to better fit the character, the track we know today
Hearing this compared to what we got with Big Shot makes me think of all those fan-made covers of Penumbra Phantasm and how different Toby's eventually take on it might be (if he does one).
Honestly if this song was more polished and saved during his fight in the weird route (playing deal gone wrong only when he does his defense bit) I would adore it even more. The song reeks of desperation, it’s very close tie to the now released Power Of Neo so fucking apparent, but it’s obvious something about it is so fucking wrong, the tone shifting in the first 30 seconds being a hell of an opener. It slaps you in the face with “omg is this power of neo? Mettaton?” And then it pitches down, bringing in “Now’s your chance to” before the both harmonize. It sounds so off yet has a almost heroic undertone and could fit so well w weird route bc of how he’s literally the only thing stopping the world from going to shit..and yet the song buffers..and sounds corrupted bc at the end of the day Spamton ain’t anyone’s hero, and like the little parasite he is, helped initiate and guide these events to fruition for his own benefit. The theme sounds like it’s trying so fucking hard to keep playing “Power of Neo” but it can’t. Power of Neo was used as Mettaton’s last line of defense to protect the underground, but this is Spamton’s final line of defense to just protect himself. Fuck I love storytelling.
Really strikes me as interesting with how similar this is to the unused extended Power of NEO. Can't help but wonder what songs that we've actually gotten are based off of other songs that we've never heard before :o On an unrelated note, very glad this wasn't used for Spamton. Doesn't fit his wacky and frankly terrifying unstable personality. I don't think I realized how much character the Earthbound soundfont and voicelines add to him. Like always, Mr. Fox knows what he's doing!! (:
Thinking about it now, I DO think this theme would've been cool if we got to keep Spamton's disk and somehow inserted him into ANOTHER body in a future chapter. He'd be nothing but pissed off. No wackiness, no remorse, you betrayed him just like he's been betrayed before. That'd be so, so cool.
@@NeleLym while I sort of agree that this doesn’t fit the normal route Spamton, you can’t deny that Spamton’s more malicious side is befitting of a slightly darker theme Yes he’s wacky and unstable, and that makes the moments where that instability becomes violent (like in the basement with Kris, or all of snowgrave where he actively helps us murder dozens of people) all the scarier So I think this theme still fits him, even if BIG SHOT fits him more
I think it fits his unstable personality pretty well. It going pretty loud and bombastic, just like Spamton himself, but as it continues it spirals into other leitmotif which show other side of personality. And also kinda fits Snowgrave route, as he, even not exactly willing to do it, trying to save whole Cyber World, making him True Hero.

Am I the only one that loves the start? How it starts being a somewhat similar Power of NEO reconstruction, only to fade out and turn into... this? The difference in the key of the chords in comparison to the scrapped, original Power of NEO extension, making it feel more sinister, alongside the leitmotif of Spamton, crashing into the main leitmotif and ALSO crashing into itself (we can see that the leitmotif doesn't give itself time to fully realize like it does in NYCTBA and BIG SHOT), making it feel like Spamton himself is driving himself to insanity trying to get Kris' soul. It really makes a contrast with the original Power Of NEO, specially if you listened to the scrapped one first before this one (which I did). Let's not talk about the amazing drums too... It's a shame it lasts so little compared to the TWR section (which I absolutely love too, but I don't feel justified the fact that the leitmotif of Jevil lasts more than the leitmotif of Spamton in his own theme. I'm not kidding, it's like- half the song just repeating TWR motifs. It's still amazing though, it hits way better than BIG SHOT, at least.)

@@flonbowe151 Again, I said that I love that part, specially it's more somber tone, which I think works better to evoke that hopelesness that the "freedom motif" is supposed to represent. the first time I saw the spamton neo or just the machine I thought it was the mettaton neo from the genocide route from Undertale but broken and abandoned and don't ask me why that made sense in my head but I thought maybe it still had a little bit left Mettaton's consciousness mixed with Spamton's, like a fusion or something, but it's just a theory I think
While I don’t rlly think there’s any canon evidence for it, that’s still a really sick headcanon Spamton suddenly getting flashier and more vain as he takes on the more negative traits of MTT instead of becoming a hero
This song is very interesting. Now, although BIG SHOT is the better song, no doubt (at least in my opinion), I still really like the Power of SPAMTON. It sounds way different from BIG SHOT however, both in melody and motifs. Speaking of, the freedom motif is also pretty interesting. This probably means that the second part of freedom was going to be used instead of the iconic first part (yes, there are two parts people, stop forgetting). And not to mention that this song references TWR way more because right after freedom we get don't forget, which sounds sounds honestly really good and it sucks that don't forget wasn't included in BIG SHOT. Still though, very good and interesting song.
Adding my two cents into this I think this song’s really good at showing off the other side of Spamton’s character, the more snowgrave-y aspects Instead of being an original composition that flows between all original spamton motifs, with a faint glimmer of PON and the Freedom Motif This is a hijacking of a previously existing song, that being PON. The Spamton motifs are hitching and clawing onto PON and warping it into something wrong, creating a much more hectic and stressful feeling, like dreading what stands before you The second part of TWR and Don’t Forget being used adds to this, instead of a simple melody to highlight Spamton’s link to Jevil, it’s now linking to the main theme of the game and trying as hard as it can to keep playing If Big Shot is Spamton’s more up front qualities, like his salesman persona and non stop ad plugging, with just a hint of untrustworthiness and volatility Then Power of Spamton is his malice, his uncaringness. This isn’t the theme of the Spamton who got left by his friends and is trying to free himself, this is the theme of the Spamton who helped you wipe out a whole town, stole someone else’s dream body, and is trying to murder you all he laughs manically about how Big he is
this is probably just me, but does 0:16 - 0:29 feel.. OFF? like the power of neo leitmotif feels SLIGHTLY off-key, and the spamton leitmotif using the main STMPWYFS instrument (i dont know what the ACTUAL instrument is so im calling it that) just makes it feel off-putting for some reason
It is kinda like that unused soundtrack from Sonic 2 that was speculated to be for a different zone (hidden palace i beleave?). It may not appear in the actual gameplay, but its origins are derived from the development of the game itself. Thus making it a part of the ost.
I can honestly understand why this was cut from the game. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great track, and I'm with all the love and praise other people are giving. But it just... it feels a bit lackluster. Toby has really high standards with his own music (definitely upped them with Deltarune), and this just doesn't feel like it meets those standards. It's good enough though that he saw it finished.

So I don't see why Toby would reference UT again since he's made it clear he wants Deltarune to be seen as its own thing

Also fun fact, BIG SHOT in the Japanese version is renamed to Power of BIG
@@Space-iousit’d be cute if in Japanese this song was named Big Shot or something as a nod to how the names kind of swapped
contextually though why would that fight's music embrace more of the power of NEO stuff? That fight is spamton trying to stop you from pulling the rug from under his feet after he finally got everything he wanted, it's very spamton-centric
@@TheCappuccino04 personally I think this for a few reasons
1. despite you both being villains, Spamton is slightly more “heroic” seeing how he’s trying to take down a mass murderer (even if he sold you the thorn ring, you have to kill everyone on your own terms for him to even sell it)
2. Power of NEO fits because it’s a 1 vs 1 with the Neo body just like in Undertale
3. Having more of The World Revolving makes sense because you’re already breaking your strings going off on a path you were never intended to take
I know he’s fighting for selfish reasons, but I imagine darkeners would be rooting for your destruction, and maybe even reluctantly cheer for Spamton
Edit: completely forgot that this version has THE HOLY motif, which plays when in the fountain room. This fight takes place right in front of the fountain

I still can’t decide if this confirms or disproves the freedom motif.
Now this one would go down in one hit
Hit him with Snowgrave and now you just have to survive his onslaught of attacks before he drops dead
incorrect, neo is famous for its high defense
Fuck I love storytelling.
i love the part at the end with the "don't forget" motif
I can't wait for people to remix this
Really strikes me as interesting with how similar this is to the unused extended Power of NEO. Can't help but wonder what songs that we've actually gotten are based off of other songs that we've never heard before :o
On an unrelated note, very glad this wasn't used for Spamton.
@@NeleLym while I sort of agree that this doesn’t fit the normal route Spamton, you can’t deny that Spamton’s more malicious side is befitting of a slightly darker theme
Yes he’s wacky and unstable, and that makes the moments where that instability becomes violent (like in the basement with Kris, or all of snowgrave where he actively helps us murder dozens of people) all the scarier
So I think this theme still fits him, even if BIG SHOT fits him more
This is just my take though, and yours is interesting too!
This should’ve been the snow grave theme for him and it would fit since the freedom motif is more prominent and you technically did find your freedom

"[[Don't Forget]] PEOPLE!"
Adding my two cents into this
I think this song’s really good at showing off the other side of Spamton’s character, the more snowgrave-y aspects
Instead of being an original composition that flows between all original spamton motifs, with a faint glimmer of PON and the Freedom Motif
This is a hijacking of a previously existing song, that being PON. The Spamton motifs are hitching and clawing onto PON and warping it into something wrong, creating a much more hectic and stressful feeling, like dreading what stands before you
The second part of TWR and Don’t Forget being used adds to this, instead of a simple melody to highlight Spamton’s link to Jevil, it’s now linking to the main theme of the game and trying as hard as it can to keep playing
If Big Shot is Spamton’s more up front qualities, like his salesman persona and non stop ad plugging, with just a hint of untrustworthiness and volatility
Then Power of Spamton is his malice, his uncaringness. This isn’t the theme of the Spamton who got left by his friends and is trying to free himself, this is the theme of the Spamton who helped you wipe out a whole town, stole someone else’s dream body, and is trying to murder you all he laughs manically about how Big he is
somehow even epic-er than the mettaton one
