Hello. Reading and understanding are important things. These crazy Congress people are blindly following the crazy one's demands. When you say anyone, do you mean your crazy house of reps from Ohio, Texas, Arizona, PA, Grand Junction CO? Contempt of Congress seems to only apply to individuals you disagree with. Hunter offered to come into to talk in an open session but it is hard to twist that after the fact. Meanwhile your team refuses to come in to Public or Private hearings. The committee first has a closed hearing of questions where it could last all day long. There is no 5 minute time limit per person to ask questions. After that, the public hearing is scheduled. Depositions are not typically public, so it should be lawyers, plantiff and complainants. Then I agree the actual case should be heard in public.

He's not running from that. He doesn't want to do a deposition, he should be ready and willing (and thrilled) to sit for a public hearing under oath.
It would be advantageous for him, and because the DOJ could charge him if he incriminated himself. In a sworn hearing, he could simply plead the fifth. That's the main difference between them. A private deposition's testimony won't result in criminal charges, which means he wouldn't be able to use the 5th amendment to evade tough questions.

Because a court room with a judge is NOT Congress. Congress is the legislative branch of the government...not the judicial and not the executive. That is why you don't see people being hauled out of committee hearing and thrown in jail. This seems a bit over your head.
The “rules“ are written in a way that can be “spun” in multiple ways. Verbal gymnastic ability /verbal agility should not be a determinant of someone’s *perceived* guilt / what punishment or credit they get.
