Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. I've been saving for a long time instead of investing, and right now I only have about $400K. considering all the inflation, i'm thinking of investing in stocks, i dont just have idea on market strategies.
At a point like this, when the pressure is already on you to retire, its best recommended you seek the services of an adviser, as this allows you make smarter investing decisions.
We all have the right to be happy! What about you children? I didn't hear much about them. Hopefully you get to visit with them and will make sure they have an inheritance too! Thanks for sharing.

What a great video, glad you did it. This helped me to refocus my mind and that is exactly what I needed. My situation is not exactly the same as yours but this clarity is priceless. I will stop trying to rearrange the deck chairs.
I think it's good what you are doing, and you followed your heart, and you did it with wisdom this time around. On the house....Did you make the exterior walls out of concrete for hurricanes?
as i told my kids while they were growing up, "there is the Plan, and then there is what happens. but always start with a plan." it's good to grow continually into a bigger plan, especially when it makes life better for others.
Hey Paul..... I haven't watched you forgot quite a while but 2 years ago when I was in dumaguete and I tried to meet up with you and then even more so now that I'm completely restarting my life at the age of 45 your words really resonate with me. You just have this calming peaceful demeanor that gives me hope man. The older I get the more and more I realize that there's a silent epidemic of broken and lonely men who nobody seems to care about or acknowledge. Listening to your videos now gives me some sense of peace so keep doing your thing man 🙏💪 God bless
Funny, when foreign women reach America, they are shocked to find all males are feminized!! It’s because the males are raised by women and no fathers. Perspective is crazy 🤯depending on where one is from and where they move to.
To say there is a failure of a man's life in the US once past a certain age is no secret. Every man over 50, divorced, and alone experiences what you did. Me too. I found my happiness there like you did. No need to explain or justify yourself. We get one life and might as well enjoy it as best you can. Hats off to you and every other man who's done the same! My X was a diagnosed sociopath so I didn't get the same, what I would call, loving treatment you did. Mine tried to kill me and steal everything.
I've been watching since you first started posting videos. You are my hero! Thank you for being a light in my life. We are both very lucky to be married to truly wonderful Filipinas. Thank God we have both left Groundhog Day! You are not a hypocrite. You are the most authentic Expat in the Philippines. Thank you for being yourself. Thank you so much.
I married a Filipina in the US. I’m 68 and she’s 62. We were planning to retire in the Philippines. We sold everything and were ready to make the move, unfortunately she passed suddenly. My point is you just never know what the future holds. Best wishes to you and Mae.
More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.
The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.
This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.
There are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with Annette Marie Holt for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She's quite known in her field, look-her up.
I just googled her and I'm really impressed with her credentials; I reached out to her since she needs all the assistance she can get. I just scheduled a caII.

Paul, I really enjoyed your life review and PH story. In my failures of the past, something occurred to me, as I also received certain business training over the years at work; in almost all things we can and possibly should renegotiate when we see something change or something that isn’t working well. That principle can save so much grief in relationships of every kind. Renegotiate and move forward.
You are not a hypocrite. You are adaptable to a changing situation, fluid even. If you didn't adapt......well......you know.......nuff said. Great video Paul!
Hi Paul,.. great 👍 video. From what you explained, you have made the RIGHT choices has your life progressed and you're making those choices and changes at a good time in your life and in that regard, I CONGRATULATE you. I must say this, that you serve has an INSPIRATION for me and to many other guys who think like yourself. Thanks and keep up the great work Paul.
I'm British but have heard a lot about working life in USA and can fully envisage the "groundhog" existence. The one thing I do envy you for is the flexibility to take the state pension early. I've been effectively retired since I was 51 but I can't get my UK state pension until I'm 67, another 3 years to wait. When I was 51 the retirement age was 65 but they changed it.
We’re about to get our SP age 66 it’ll give us £700 each (after tax) every 4 weeks so a nice cherry on top but we’re lucky we have other pensions. We retired at 60. I can’t imagine how people cope who only rely on SP as it’s a pittance….
I was pleased to hear your thoughts and when you enumerated the fastidious steps you took to manage your life I agreed with each step. How refreshing! I am a female 82 years old and want to make the leap. Like you I am not interested in a twosome but rather having reasonable care when I need it and being able to afford it. Also like you I am rambling along in a 2500 sq ft house that I don’t need. Thank you for your kind and informative message. What a blessing to find a like minded individual.
Paul: I love your easy-going yet inquisitive personality. You’re the first of the American ex-pats in-the-Philippines that I saw. You hooked me right from the start! I love your honesty and self-deprecating way! God bless you!
Life has a way of changing plans. Always. So you went to the P.I. to start over and live the dream of a retired "rich American". And you found relaxation, less stress, decent food and living conditions, etc. Then you and Mae found each other. Good for you and great you were able to see what a good woman is. I said that as soon as I dreaded going to my factory I would sell and retire. God helped and that's exactly what happened. Buyer group called me out of the blue asking if I had considered selling and retiring. Had they called an hour before or an hour after the answer would have been no. Took 6 months to sell and when I got funded my identity as a working man ceased. It's ALL gravy now. And I love it.
Thank you for the backstory Old Dog. Been a long-time sub. What I enjoy about your channel is you show PI for what it is for an expat ... the good, bad, and ugly. Glad you found happiness in PI. All the best to you and BM.
Very interested in seeing the build videos. Looking at building a home in the next island over, Guimaras. Thinking about a garage with mother-in-law suite 1st then use that for a dwelling while we build. Still a few years from retirement, but little by little want to get the build site leveled and a driveway from the road put in the next time we go back over there.... Never say never kept creeping into my mind during your vid, currently living the groundhog day here the U.S..

Thank you Paul. This is helping me make my decision to move to The Philippines after retirement. I think, that like yourself, after a few years I'll become a different person while living frugally in The Philippines. As they say, it is not just the years of your life, but also the life in your years.
Live wherever you are happiest. After visiting Europe, Central America, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Thailand, all over the USA, and the Philippines, I decided to stay in remote Colorado since 1994. Great dirt bike trails are 10 minutes from my garage, beautiful paved roads to high mountain passes are within 30 minutes from my garage, and I can see patients from my home. Single with no children and at almost 73, no interest in the romantic side of life at this point. He made consciousness changes, not 'evolved'.
Paul, I see you as one of the lucky ones. We all have plans for our future, however, things change. You have adapted to your changes and have found your goldmine. I applaud you for showing us your life and words of wisdom.
Nice one Paul ,happy to see you have found happiness. You only have one life to live. Well done.
Paul, first time watching you. Ive subscribed. No, your not a hypocrite. Your a man doing the best he can, living his life and sounds like blessed beyond belief. Im happy for you. Im happy that youve found a woman that makes you happy and has perhaps made you selfless. That is something we all need to strive for. Im that guy in America who lives in what seems to be just endless drama. I enjoye listening to you. Thank you.
I’ve watched Paul’s content on-and-off about three years. This video rises to an anthem.
Ten years Paul’s junior, it really made me think. Well done Old Dog!
Count yourself as blessed. You just upped your level of life. I think what you went thru is called wisdom. Everybody changes, no one is exempt. Your change is for the better. Your narrative makes me feel like I'm narrating my own life, such similarities. I'm 79 and I'm feeling good about myself. I woke up to reality. I hear you!
Looking forward to seeing the home building progress! So happy for both of you! Thanks for your transparency Paul it helps all of us out!! 👍
Paul, who cares if others judge you. It is obvious you have been healed from your past and given a chance to be happy. I can only hope I am so lucky. Your the best version of yourself now!!😊

Your example of wanting to be frugal as a personal challenge is a refreshing change from other channels.
Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. I've been saving for a long time instead of investing, and right now I only have about $400K. considering all the inflation, i'm thinking of investing in stocks, i dont just have idea on market strategies.
Do you plan on retiring before 59?
That is what determines it for me. I switched to cash flowing assets because I wanted to retire early.
At a point like this, when the pressure is already on you to retire, its best recommended you seek the services of an adviser, as this allows you make smarter investing decisions.

You can retire now. Hows your 401k? You dont need millions to retire in the PH.
You only work 4 days 😮
Welcome to life? Many Filipinos have it much worst living day by day. At least you have a stable job.
Get out and start meeting people. Go to meetup groups, etc. Go on road trips, make friends.

We evolve along the way. We transform ourselves by our choices Paul. I am on the same road. Beginning a New path, My retirement door is about to open it up.
What a great video, glad you did it. This helped me to refocus my mind and that is exactly what I needed. My situation is not exactly the same as yours but this clarity is priceless. I will stop trying to rearrange the deck chairs.

Nice video. 58 years in the USA and I never seen a feminine woman until I came to the Philippines. It's hard to explain but incredible to experience.
Funny, when foreign women reach America, they are shocked to find all males are feminized!! It’s because the males are raised by women and no fathers.
Perspective is crazy 🤯depending on where one is from and where they move to.
Were u dating men in US?????😂
To say there is a failure of a man's life in the US once past a certain age is no secret.

So sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss wish you all the best for the future.
Oh wow...
Great video with great content, thank you.

3 years will go by fast.
We’re about to get our SP age 66 it’ll give us £700 each (after tax) every 4 weeks so a nice cherry on top but we’re lucky we have other pensions. We retired at 60. I can’t imagine how people cope who only rely on SP as it’s a pittance….
Bummer.
