I completely agree with Matt, if your game is garbage it doesn't matter how powerful the garbage can is. We have never heard Nintendo say "The new Super Mario Brothers game would have done better if the Switch had been 60 times more powerful." and they are consistently the most under-powered console of each generation.
As a Series S owner i am glad it exists as I just cannot afford a series X, mayhaps down the line after the next generation it may drop to a level of affordability that works for my tight budget but for now it is good enough for me.
Check the market place. I see them selling from $250 to $400 and some with accessories. Makes me regret buying mine new, had I waiting I could've gotten one dirt cheap used.
The Series S is basically just a low level PC, the Series X is a mid range PC (maybe slightly over mid range). If you can make a game work adequately on a low level PC, you've done like 90% of the work to get it to work on Series S adequately.
I think the best move would be of Microsoft could just release an OS update that officially turns the X and S into full PCs capable of playing the Xbox games, but also gaining access to things like Steam for PC game. Not that it would happen, even if they could make it work. If they would take this approach, it's more likely to be in the next round of hardware which will officially just be a PC with xbox game playback.
@@travisziegler5011it would destroy pc sales but I do believe the next Xbox will have to be a pc basically for it to sell cause everyone is tired of console exclusives and Xbox as a platform is more focused on cloud gaming now
The Xbox Series X and PS5 GPU is equivalent to the 2070, both of them are clocked at or around 3.5 GHz, and have 16 GB of RAM. Neither the PS5 or Series X are over mid range, they're like upper low end or mid range PCs.
series x/ps5 were mid range pcs at launch, today they're nowhere near that. The ps5pro will be a mid tier pc expected to perform around a 4070. Series S today is a complete joke with only 8gb of ram, and everyone saw this coming. If it were as easy as porting to a low end pc, you obviously wouldn't see all these games skipping xbox on launch day
I just don't get how developing for Series S is harder than making sure Low settings work on PC, it's just a PC with a weird version of Windows at the end of the day, it's nothing that special. If you can't make your game work on a console that is still more powerful than the most common gaming PC on Steam, that's on you, not Microsoft.
So you missed the part at the beginning about matching features on the S and the X. BG3 couldn't do split screen on the S so until they figured that out, they couldn't release on either. So if you want to really PUSH the x... With some cool feature like split screen, but the S has no shot in hell to run that feature, you're left removing the feature instead. You might have a Diablo decision to load everyone's inventory when you pass by... Well that takes a lot of resources so you can't add more inventory slots because the S can't load more... Yeah that's a dog shit dev choice, but it's real world.
It's ever so slightly different specs make it harder to work with its not quite a 1:1 for pc low settings as even there is above where the series s can run its coding drm everything about also it being a digital system with 360ish gb of storage would 100% indicate it's more likely to be used purely with game pass and would hurt devs as games won't be bought as much thanks to the lack of enough storage space
One big issue I can see right off the bat is memory. A minimum spec PC would be 16GB RAM and a GTX 1060 with 6 GB VRAM, giving you 22 GB to play with, let's take 3 GB off for overhead and you still got 13+6 GB. The Series S has 10 GB. So even without accounting for overhead, a Series S still has almost half the memory of a minimum spec PC.
A pc made up of the most common specs on steam still wouldn’t be able to run the games that the series s is having problems with regardless of settings. The most popular games on steam (besides Black Myth: Wukong rn) aren’t games that are super difficult to run
The hardware needed for low settings on PC for newer games is still more powerful than a Series S. The development on the new generation of consoles begins years before they are released which is why by the time they come out they are outdated compared to PC hardware.
if it wasn't for the series s we would have got most of video games not optimized, remember back with xbox one/ps4 when they had cpus weaker than mobile phones but still we had amzaing games
Like most things the truth is in the middle. There are issues yes. But yes a series s is great for consumers. For people who game on PlayStation but want to try an Xbox. For people who just don’t have the money for the other consoles. For people who don’t game enough to need or care about the extra. It’s pretty cool.
@@fabolousjada5070 fool? I’m talking about how Microsoft requiring series s compatibility for most devs in order to release games on the series x means that a lot of current AAA games still have the ability to run on the deck?
I left my console gaming behind last month after seeing the writing on the wall. I'm console gamed since they first came out, I'm a much older casual gamer. I bought a gaming PC last month and enjoy it very much, it's much better and has less red tape and drama. Not going back to Xbox or any console gaming.
Well, they just want their effort to be rewarded and with a small install base for xbox combined with a large majority of xbox gamers who refuse to buy games since they only care about game pass, it's becoming far from attractive for developers.
Disagree. Devs nowadays aren't adaptable, like they were in the past.(I blame game design courses for teaching people to only know how to use Unreal) It's not the fact they are lazy, they just suck.
yeah sure, they all suck! thats the only explanation.. cant be because games got way more complex, especially a game like BG3.. not that cant be, a 1999 1mb game is as complex as a the games nowadays, so the devs must suck.. holy shit the ignorance is insane.
Exactly. As long as stuff is still running on 1000 series GTX and Steamdeck acceptably, I don’t wanna hear anything about the Series S holding back the industry.
I just found out a black 1TB Series S exists lol. As it's tv cabinet friendly in size, I think that's what I'll be picking up soon. I game on PC primarily, but I need something to replace the Xbox One X with.
What is holding the generation back is there was no need for it to exist other than 'it was time' there were no great technological/hardware leaps like there were going from cartridge to cd to dvd to blu ray to slightly prettier again blu ray with the one/PS4. What have we gained this time? Prettier again? And that's not enough anymore. If the PS5 Pro is a real thing then that should probably have been the PS5 and the generation started now instead of four years ago
Developers should look at how Bandai Namco, 2K, and EA Sports when it comes to optimizing for the Series S. I owned both Series S and X and the only gripe i had with the series S is it doesn't have a disc drive
because you cant buy quality, you have to grow studios. Xbox has been buying up studios and doing squat to improve them, its just been mediocre release after mediocre release. They have to move 1st party titles to other platforms to make money on them. Gamespass is a cancer.
Because Xbox is a division of Microsoft and they get a budget and if they don't do well that budget gets lowered just hopefully never cut, or we are fucked.
I got a Series S that I love to use for Game Pass and Media consumption. It has Dolby Vision and its HDR looks far, far better. But I just love to play most of my games on Playstation
Why are people buying Playstation 5 if everyone is constantly complaining there's no exclusives or games on Playstation 5, and then they do the same about Xbox Series X.
it should be as follows: if the dev wants to be on GP, it needs to be compatible with S/X. If the dev is not interested in GP, then do what you want. And there should have been a mobile version of S by now
The xbox series S is a consumer win and was needed because otherwise budget gamers on all platforms would be left out because games would not get released for lowered specs on pc and for ps4, switch, or steam deck/other decks, nearly as soon if at all. It also forces developers to optimize games so they are so insanely large and buggy because they can get away with it.
I agree. If developers don’t want to make a version for the series S, they should just say, and not blame the console. A lot of people bought the series S, and it brought a lot of people over to the Xbox side. I’ve got a series X, but friends of mine and my daughter has the series S.
The only problem of the Series S is that for some reason they freaking didn't add the same amount of RAM on both models, because if it only had a weaker graphics card almost every game would work fine just at a lower resolution.
Its very sad to say, but the Series S was a shortsighted decision from Microsoft. Yeah, more people will buy it over the 500 - 600 options, but its not worth it if third party can't support it properly, and unlike Nintendo, Microsoft's first party games aren't appealing enough to justify a console purchase (Them again, Microsoft is basically a third party developer at this point).
funny how ppl like you who doesnt care about ppl with low wage just wanna enjoy some games and deosnt care about power and act oh "sad " you arent "third party can't " no they can they dont want to bc they are f lazy SW outlaws just released and had shit performance even on 4090 PC with low settings is that series S ??? f cringy
While I understand what your saying, I disagree with you completely. Neither console is at fault here. They are what they are. The amount of money you pay denotes the value of power you get. While developers have to develop games that run on both consoles. Else Microsoft won't release the game on either until the issue is fix. I beleive the whole issue would go away if ms drops this. It's like saying if you purchase a very low end pc and expect to run the very latest games at 60fps. It just struggles but can do it.. But in a pic settings you can turn down the graphics resolution settings. Perhaps like in html code that recognises the type of screen you have and the size layout so it can correctly show the websites page with the appropriate hardware. The same could be done for the series s and x. But like I said before I believe Microsoft should not hold back games developers. People should expect their to be a distance of you do go for the lower powered option
@@ich_16just look at game size today and compared it to 5 years ago. My Xbox is constantly updating the games and the same game might have multiple updates. And they're not small they're quite pig. Now this is all to do with textures I believe. As that is what is usually the case for the sizes ballooning. Just looking at this way you take a photo at 640 x 480 resolution and compare that to the size add 4K for instance. Depending upon the format willt dictate the file size. Back in 2000 when internet was just getting traction I was working on web pages this was exactly the same scenario. I had to implement code to determine the screen size of a users who was visiting the web site. Developers have got lacy to a extent. I beleive their is unnecessary code being used. Technically the series x m performance to the PlayStation 5. Apparently some games run better on this. This is part of the reason. This is why ms needs to get rid of VG this policy
My only concern is how the Series S potentially impacts the next gen hardware. During another cross gen period where developers have to make basically 3 separate versions from Series S, the Series X and next gen Xbox. Just keep it simple with a handheld and a traditional Xbox with lots of power.
Does Austin actually know how much 30% is? 30% of 1 Million is still 300,000. If a company sells a million copies of a game at $70, before breakdowns based on where/how the game was bought, that's roughly $21,000,000. I know he used 30% as like a rough estimate but it's important to understand how much reach that percentage actually is
Maybe we stop dividing gamers and just let everyone enjoy whatever system they enjoy. Nintendo is good for the casual gamer and family friendly games, XB is good for Game Pass and exclusives, and PS is good for power house AAA games and their exclusives. Each has their strengths which is why I own them all.
2:00 Not really lower settings. That's too broad. The specific promise was that the only difference between games on the Series X and the Series S would be the rendering resolution. That's a promise that's been broken many times.
iirc, Aggro Crab made Another Crab's Treasure for all platforms including Switch so how are bigger companies struggling to make games work on a series S, which is significantly more powerful than the Switch
I have them both, and think they are both exceptional consoles,, but I will say I got the X-Box first because I felt it was the better console. The PS5 is great, but all around it seemed to be prioritizing style over function, and I don't want to be the coolest and the prettiest, I just want to play a fun game every now and then.
I've been using the Series S for 2-3 years now and I use to play older titles. The games that came out in the past 4-5 years do not really interest me enough to justify a higher priced console. The Series S really gets looked over, it's a good console. It feels much better to play on than the Xbox One and plays the same games anyways.
The Series S is perfect for the gamer on a budget, and the gamer that only plays a couple of games. Their favourite sports franchise and/or COD. The Series S can be purchased, played with for a couple of years and then traded in for a Series X, as a mid-life upgrade for the budget concious gamer. Add on that game pass can be got for free via the MS rewards program, then the Series S has its place, and is perfect for many gamers.
GamePass basically has same problem as all streaming services. All movies are doomed about the profit if they do not get enough real sales on theaters. DVD sales are dead and physical games are somewhat close to death. On that point GamePass is basically start of death of real games. Or we gonna get back to lower cost of games that has good story, great cutscenes and just forget focusing just only graphics. Have some real themess and art styles like indie studios have been doing for long time.
Looking back with everything we know now, the Series S was a mistake. The XBox is coming into this new generation in last place with a much smaller consumer base. Obviously devs will prioritise PlayStation optimization over the XBox bcs of a larger consumer base. Then Microsoft expects these devs to put even more time and resources into the Series S when the XBox brand in total is trailing in 3rd place.
The whole point of getting a new generation of consoles is to MOVE FORWARD. I agree with developers. Why would you want to make games for a console that only performs slightly better than previous generations of consoles? It makes no sense. You might as well call it the Xbox One X Pro at that point and leave the Series X as the current generation of consoles. I mean, I know the differences between the Series S and Xbox One X are far more significant than I’m making it out to be, but if it doesn’t perform at the same level of current generation consoles, than it’s still considered previous generation. So absolutely not. I’d rather have a developer focus on developing games with the focus being on current generation game consoles and performance.
Okay so clearly you are among those that would blame the paper for your stupid results, when the one in charge of the ink is to be credited with the masterpiece that they were able to create, because of their skill. I understand you very clearly, you are admittedly declaring to the world, that you are in fact s.....tu......pi....d 😂
For what the series S does it’s fantastic, and what it does is NOT next gen triple A gaming. But it doesn’t have to. Love the lil guy Edit: They simply need to drop the series S requirement for new games. Not saying devs don’t make a series S port, just doesn’t have to come at the same time as the X version.
Till you install 1 triple A title and notice you have no space for anything else .. 360ish gb of storage after os is a joke it should have had the 1tb drive from its inception as a full digital console
@@fenrirsfolly92 my point stands. Series X isn't worth porting for. 8M users that game on gamepass isn't worth any developers time or money. Series S is the only reason Xbox is getting a GTA 6 port. Wii U and dreamcast sold more than series X to put it in perspective.
I think it should be up to the game dev to support or not. It’s in their best interest to support as it requires optimization meaning you can reach more audiences on low spec pcs or the switch even. But, if they want to create tech demo worthy cutting edge gfx - then they can do that as well and not support low end hardware.. Been like this forever on PC - they always have minimum requirements, some games require high end, some you can run on a potato. Let the game dev and gamer decide what they want …
What Microsoft should have done is make the Xbox Series S the equivalent of the Xbox 360 E, a last minute revision that is just to get people into the Xbox family without spending to much money.
As an owner of BOTH the Series X and Series S these arguments are mostly BS. The S is the perfect traveling companion for traveling for the summer..or kids going on a trio for holidays which is what we use ours for. Literally the console, controller, and 2 cords and you're on the way.
Developers who are complaining about the Series S are hypocrites. They optimize low teir pcs and handheld that are less to same capability all the time. It is just that developers are not innovative anymore like they were in the 360 era. Now, they are spoiled and don't want to put in the extra work on the console
Hey I have a series X and I mostly play game pass games. It’s too damn expensive to buy every single game that comes out or every single game that I wanna play Also I’m grandfathered in so I only pay $60 a year for game pass. Up until I miss a payment anyway but I can’t because it’s on auto pay ha ha ha ha. I ain’t going anywhere.
I am just reiterating what others are saying. Use a performance mode (Series S), and a quality mode (series x). If we can do this on PC, we should be able to do this on console. When we look at the hardware of Xbox Series and PS5, we are seeing a midrange PC. Yes, a bit modified hardware, but ultimately these are just PC's with specialized OSs for streamlined functionality. I honestly agree that the devs just don't want to, and that is just BAD business practice. And no, Xbox isn't dying. Game Pass is where the real money is at, the consoles are just something to put their foot in the market. I also keep saying that the Series S should become a portable/dockable Xbox Handheld (Xbox Series H?)! That is money on the table, and would honestly justify the idea behind the weaker hardware. Microsoft would seriously see Series X honest go out and drop another 300 on a portable system. I know I would.
Man, I was so hyped to get a PS5 when it was released. After a couple of years of waiting for a surplus, my financial situation has changed and I couldn't put down $500 plus the extra increasing cost of the games. Everything else is getting more expensive and I had to re-prioritize. I wonder what is the breaking point, price wise where people can't justify buying it...
It’s time to stop excusing lazy game devs that just don’t want to put in the extra effort to optimize. Even most 1st party devs don’t bother. I remember the Xbox 360 era vividly and refuse to believe these consoles are that hard to make games work on
Xbox is absolutely cooked. I bought a Series X day one, super stoked. Finally, after 3.5 years, I sold it. The most powerful console of all time sure had a tough time going head to head with PS5. Disappointing to the max.
I'm so so tired of this discussion. These same developers also write games for the Nintendo Switch! I currently own an Xbox One and an Xbox Series X. I traded in my Xbox Series S to buy my X. Why didn't I just buy a Series X to begin with? Covid-19! That is also left out of the discussion! Even legitimate sellers took advantage of consumers to scam us out of money to Xbox SeriesX and/or PS5! Why doesn't anyone not bring this up?
Im pretty sure my xbone series s is cooked. It turns on but doesn't do anything else. It gets frozen when i try to start a game. I cant even open up the settings menu.
I think it's crazy how some people think you should just worship a dev and respect them because they are a dev. That's more identity pltcs. If you do a good job you're a good dev. If you make junk because that's what you wanted to make then yeah. You arent good.
Ss is great but because of it i as SX user have inferior experience from both 3rd party and first party. Even that MS is not utilizing SX and giving us undercooked 30fps gaming is a big problem for me
I feel Series S helped the demand for other game consoles come down when they were all being scalped. Series S was the less wanted console that was for the average gamer who doesn't care about power and the one that scalpers would probably lose money on therefore giving another option. cause the first console I ever seen in store during 2021 was the Xbox Series S and nothing else
I really think the pro systems kinda helped ruin the market of home consoles. It's nice to have a more powerful system to push graphics, but why not just get a PC? Especially now since all these systems barely have anything exclusive. Consoles have mainly been centered around affordability with the profits coming from game sales. I refuse to believe that the average person gives a crap about if Fortnite is playing in 2k or 4k on their TV, and if they do care that much they would probably already have a PC. At $500 even with parts being as overpriced as they are who could build something comparable to a series X.
I feel like this whole conversation of the work related to optimization will go away with the pushes toward AI tools in gaming development. Let the robots do that work.
Why don't they just make the Xbox One versions run on it instead of the series x versions run on it? I don't understand how it's holding it back when they still release the same games on the Xbox One.....
I love the series S. It's low power and affordable for most people. 74w at max load iirc and it runs elden ring perfectly fine for me and i'd argue the casual gamers love it especially those that mainly just watch netflix and will play the ocasional game. I get why some dont like it but personally i love the thing and id sell my ps5 first
As always, Matt shows his shortsigh.. Bro, just think about this really quick: Do you think that the people who buys the cheapest console are the ones buying more games? 3 AAA games worth almost the same as the Series S, Obviously the people buying Series S will only plays Fortnite, Warzone and multimedia.
The size of the Series S is just good that it's almost portable. If the series S hold us back then how come game developers make games like Celeste, hollow Knight, octopath traveler, ORI, Hades, etc? The series S is fine with those. The problem is that the developers are holding us back. Anyways, there's been a change to the xbox gamepass where it is the same with the PS subscription, so then Microsoft is holding the only advantage that makes gamers buy xbox (the gamepass), so is there even a reason to buy xbox now that the gamepass price increased??
Ever since Play Station 2 and Xbox, Sony has always been on top. It's never even been a discussion on the superior console. Plus Xbox changing the Xbox Live and Gamepass prices/tiers adding an even cheaper tier that gives you less and makes Microsoft more. PC gaming is superiour, and you don't need a damn 4090. I've got a 4060 Ti and I'm hitting my frame rate cap @165 FPS. Find me a console that can hit 60 constantly... never mind 165.
ps4 is holding back a bunch of titles too, which arguably sucks more since its a last gen console. at least the series s is current gen so many games keep having to be developed with ps4 compatibility and it actively hurts performance of new games
Series s is a good console I can see in the future games will be made standard (series s) or a larger game and or better optimization series x like a pro version of the game, also possibly boosting sales for the better console for more content/better optimization
not how that was meant but ok if they make no games then they make no money either. But here is a good example to prove Matts point. Lets say that for some reason the PS5 was just total trash and noone bought it and just kept their PS4s, these same game companies then whine about being held back by the PS4 and that people shouldn't play on it because its to hard to scale down the graphics. Would that be a valid argument for them to make or should they just shut up and make games for the platform that people play on and then up scale for the others?
@@atk9989 I love how you profess to now what he meant but generally your hypothetical isnt based in reality, in reality the ps5 isn't that big of a jump from the PS4 and actually people were getting annoyed that every game was also PS4 compatible, from a dev perspective it isn't hard to offer the game in different resolutions it's the hardware in this case that is so different it makes it difficult to offer different versions
I wonder what it would be like to have all the original xbox games but with the modern xbox series x graphics with the same exact gameplay and controls as the original xbox. For example, the original xbox with xbox series x graphics with the same exact games as the original xbox console but with modern graphics. The same thing would apply to original playstation one with ps5 graphics with the same exact gameplay and controls as the playstation one. I always wondered what the original xbox, original playstation one and the n64 games would look like with modern graphics and even with the option to play natively in 4k. I have my n64 connected to my 65 inch samsung curve qled 4k tv but I wonder how my n64 games look like natively without any upscaling. For example, golden eye 007 and perfect dark in native 4k with hdr with no upscaling. I have the xbox series x, non oled nintendo switch and ps4. I don't have the ps5 because the library of games is still too small compared to the ps4. The xbox series x came out the same year as the ps5 while having a larger library of games and being backwards compatibility with my whole library of physical copies of games that I still have from my original xbox to the xbox 360. The ps4 is not backwards compatibility but at least it has a large library of games and has classic games. The xbox series x and ps5 barely have any classic titles. The titles on the xbox series x and the ps5 titles pales in comparison to the original xbox, xbox 360, ps2 and the ps3 title. I'm comparing the older consoles because they are classic consoles with classic titles. The newer xbox and sony consoles just have better graphics with non stop micro transactions. I miss being be able to unlock stuff in the games by putting hours to unlock extra content for the games. Nowadays, you just pay for the extra content thru micro transactions. It's free and fun to unlock stuff when playing games. The fun has been taken out since most stuff cost money to unlock stuff. The nintendo switch is starting to come out with more classic titles even though it's taking a while for it to happen but it's going to be worth the wait.
Why should us comsumers give af about the devs working a bit more to get it on Series S ? If they want that money from that user base make it work and make it good.
With games being released in broken and buggy state on even High-end PCs, despite the large team size and expensive game pricing, I'd say it's a dev problem. Most minimum specs for games fit within the Series S performance. I'd say MSFT should just change the requirements so that the S can run games at 1080p30 Low/Mid settings at least without having to launch same time as the X
That little bit near the end where he compared a series s to a steam deck i dont think was the right or smart thing to do. For example Microsoft is demanding feature parity between the X and S consoles. So if the S cant handle lets say split screen but the X can then either no split screen at all or the game doesnt release on xbox at all. The steam deck isnt a console, its a linux computer that you hold in your hands. Valve isnt demanding feature parity with other pcs. Like for example a game has raytracing, steam deck cant handle that but a high end desktop pc with like a 3070/80 and better can. The game still releases and doesnt get fucked by the less powerful computer. Also whose playing split screen on a steam deck.
The Series S may be a great value, but I don't know anyone who has one. In my friend group, I'm the only with an Xbox and I have the series X. Many of my friend group though has a PS5. Just because it's a good value, doesn't mean people are interested in it.
It sucks they don’t care about Xbox anymore they could easily get great exclusives if they wanted to. Microsoft could fund a new Splinter Cell anything with their resources plenty of games that could sell consoles but they don’t care about console sales anymore
I completely agree with Matt, if your game is garbage it doesn't matter how powerful the garbage can is. We have never heard Nintendo say "The new Super Mario Brothers game would have done better if the Switch had been 60 times more powerful." and they are consistently the most under-powered console of each generation.
Not the ps2 era. It was more powerful. Still couldn't touch the og xbox.
The biggest problem with PS5 is that it doesn’t have Forza or flight Sim and I can’t do it without those games. Everyone has a preference.
As a Series S owner i am glad it exists as I just cannot afford a series X, mayhaps down the line after the next generation it may drop to a level of affordability that works for my tight budget but for now it is good enough for me.
I got lucky on offer up for $250. Just keep looking they come and go the same day if it's a good price

series x/ps5 were mid range pcs at launch, today they're nowhere near that.
As a steamdeck guy, shout out to the series s for keeping a lot of AAA stuff within reach lol
Steamdeck has more games fool 😂
@@fabolousjada5070 fool? I’m talking about how Microsoft requiring series s compatibility for most devs in order to release games on the series x means that a lot of current AAA games still have the ability to run on the deck?
I left my console gaming behind last month after seeing the writing on the wall. I'm console gamed since they first came out, I'm a much older casual gamer. I bought a gaming PC last month and enjoy it very much, it's much better and has less red tape and drama. Not going back to Xbox or any console gaming.
And much more digital nothing on account in theory... until Gabe will either leave company or this world and Steam die.
Devs are lazy. Case solved.
Well, they just want their effort to be rewarded and with a small install base for xbox combined with a large majority of xbox gamers who refuse to buy games since they only care about game pass, it's becoming far from attractive for developers.
@@ErlaxisPotencial 35+ million install base is small? Stop the cap
Disagree. Devs nowadays aren't adaptable, like they were in the past.(I blame game design courses for teaching people to only know how to use Unreal) It's not the fact they are lazy, they just suck.
@@motherurck7542 not adaptable but the management team making impossible schedule and revisions
as a developer myself, i can confirm this
yeah sure, they all suck! thats the only explanation.. cant be because games got way more complex, especially a game like BG3.. not that cant be, a 1999 1mb game is as complex as a the games nowadays, so the devs must suck.. holy shit the ignorance is insane.
Series s is great. It's the reason I can play bo6 on my launch day ps4

*how can Xbox be the underdog when they have a Trillion$ company behind them*
because you cant buy quality, you have to grow studios.
Stram deck isnt a fair comparison to the series s. The steam deck runs at 720p, which is much easier to push than the 1080p target of the series s
They should have made the series S as powerful as the xbox one x imo
it should be as follows: if the dev wants to be on GP, it needs to be compatible with S/X.

Never in my life, did i think i would have a this is video with the word cooked in it...
The only problem of the Series S is that for some reason they freaking didn't add the same amount of RAM on both models, because if it only had a weaker graphics card almost every game would work fine just at a lower resolution.
Its very sad to say, but the Series S was a shortsighted decision from Microsoft. Yeah, more people will buy it over the 500 - 600 options, but its not worth it if third party can't support it properly, and unlike Nintendo, Microsoft's first party games aren't appealing enough to justify a console purchase (Them again, Microsoft is basically a third party developer at this point).
funny how ppl like you who doesnt care about ppl with low wage just wanna enjoy some games and deosnt care about power
and act oh "sad " you arent
"third party can't " no they can they dont want to bc they are f lazy
SW outlaws just released and had shit performance even on 4090 PC with low settings is that series S ???
I love the cheeto coloured mic covers you have switched to ;-P
iirc, Aggro Crab made Another Crab's Treasure for all platforms including Switch so how are bigger companies struggling to make games work on a series S, which is significantly more powerful than the Switch
Its just a skill issue at this point honestly
Because a lot of those games are not releasing on the Switch
I have them both, and think they are both exceptional consoles,, but I will say I got the X-Box first because I felt it was the better console. The PS5 is great, but all around it seemed to be prioritizing style over function, and I don't want to be the coolest and the prettiest, I just want to play a fun game every now and then.
If anything the slew on handhelds and how they are becoming more popular gives devs no excuse to say the series as is an issue.
I've been using the Series S for 2-3 years now and I use to play older titles. The games that came out in the past 4-5 years do not really interest me enough to justify a higher priced console. The Series S really gets looked over, it's a good console. It feels much better to play on than the Xbox One and plays the same games anyways.
If COD runs at 1440p 120fps on series S, these other games should run fine!
If developers can make a game work on thousands of different PCs then they can do this. It's rediculous to think they can't.
I don't want to do my primary gaming on a heavy chunky steam deck.
Microsoft needs to drop feature parity on the Series S, asking for parity on devices that themselves are not in parity, is flawed.
So they can make a game for a wooden pc all the way to a super computer but the series s is to difficult!?
For what the series S does it’s fantastic, and what it does is NOT next gen triple A gaming. But it doesn’t have to. Love the lil guy
Edit: They simply need to drop the series S requirement for new games. Not saying devs don’t make a series S port, just doesn’t have to come at the same time as the X version.
It's basically a 'Series X version' with settings turned down some for Seried S as it is.
Till you install 1 triple A title and notice you have no space for anything else .. 360ish gb of storage after os is a joke it should have had the 1tb drive from its inception as a full digital console
Series X has 1/10th the user base of series S. Why would anyone port games only for a console with paltry userbase.
@@Sand_19958M vs about 22M does not 1/10 make, someone didn’t pay attention in math class
Microsoft needed the s this gen. They went in knowing that if they didn't have a cheap option, they wouldnt have barely sold anything.
how long until you can just get your console with 5 different graphics chips and people have to setup all thier own graphic settings in the menu.
Holy hell what shattered glass universe did i wake up in. I actually agree with Matt on something.
Developers who are complaining about the Series S are hypocrites. They optimize low teir pcs and handheld that are less to same capability all the time. It is just that developers are not innovative anymore like they were in the 360 era. Now, they are spoiled and don't want to put in the extra work on the console
A lot of people only upgraded from one or one s to series s as it was cheaper and they wouldn't have bought series x and stayed in the last gen 😅
Hey I have a series X and I mostly play game pass games. It’s too damn expensive to buy every single game that comes out or every single game that I wanna play
Also I’m grandfathered in so I only pay $60 a year for game pass. Up until I miss a payment anyway but I can’t because it’s on auto pay ha ha ha ha. I ain’t going anywhere.
gta 6 will be released only on console so the xbox series s is the best option if you want to play gta 6 affordably
I remember the Xbox 360 era vividly and refuse to believe these consoles are that hard to make games work on
The series S forces developers to not be lazy and optimize games, making them more efficient and better to run on the more powerful hardware.
Why doesn't anyone not bring this up?
to buy Xbox or PS5. sorry.
A majority of the games have not been made for the Switch at all.
Im pretty sure my xbone series s is cooked. It turns on but doesn't do anything else. It gets frozen when i try to start a game. I cant even open up the settings menu.
We’ll play stilts profit levels are so high because the just jack the prices of everything like regular ps plus is 80 bucks now which is Wilde
Even that MS is not utilizing SX and giving us undercooked 30fps gaming is a big problem for me
Yes
Aren't there still a lot of games still being released for the PS4 as well?
I love the series S. It's low power and affordable for most people. 74w at max load iirc and it runs elden ring perfectly fine for me and i'd argue the casual gamers love it especially those that mainly just watch netflix and will play the ocasional game. I get why some dont like it but personally i love the thing and id sell my ps5 first
Who is this replacement Kinsey? Mat is it?
I'm still using the very first Xbox One and loving it. I'm able to play games and that's all I care about.
Devs need to stop making games on previous gen hardware before complaining about current gen
Find me a console that can hit 60 constantly... never mind 165.
ps4 is holding back a bunch of titles too, which arguably sucks more since its a last gen console. at least the series s is current gen
so many games keep having to be developed with ps4 compatibility and it actively hurts performance of new games

I just bought a Series S on Saturday. I just wanna play the available games on game pass. The ones there I'm fine with. Simple
Series s is a good console I can see in the future games will be made standard (series s) or a larger game and or better optimization series x like a pro version of the game, also possibly boosting sales for the better console for more content/better optimization
They made a mistake requiring the game to run on both. S is holding things back because how Microsoft went about it.
Developers dont make statements, they make games, project managers make statements, if you say fuck developers you end up with no games
not how that was meant but ok if they make no games then they make no money either.

Never had a problem with my series s tbh
I have all three consoles and I still mostly play on my PC because it’s just better. I haven’t turned my Xbox Series S on in probably 6-8 months.
Games are costing more to develop and taking longer and teams have never been bigger, i dont think this is a dev problem
I recently bought an S. I could've bought an X but 4k isn't worth it for me. Plus I like how travel friendly the S is
It sucks they don’t care about Xbox anymore they could easily get great exclusives if they wanted to. Microsoft could fund a new Splinter Cell anything with their resources plenty of games that could sell consoles but they don’t care about console sales anymore
