    Collectively, these episodes give me the sense of a genealogical relay race, handing the ancestral baton along so that we, the users, can cross the finish line.

    Hi. I wanted to let you know that I did get my problem unraveled between Family Tree and Ancestry. I was then able to correct and submit a correction to my brother's census report.
    THANK YOU for all that you and all of Ancestery has done to help me find info and grow my tree which I share with all my cousins. Blessings.

    I really like this series & appreciate that in episode 5 you addressed my question from episode 3 about errors in indexing, specifically city directories. I do give corrections as often as I can. But when a name is missed in the indexing I'm not sure how I can offer corrections since there is no incorrect information to correct. Example: 1870 Mobile, AL, Page 118 (image 73), Mann, William D. is not indexed. Thanks.

      Y'all are asking some really great questions as we go with this series and I'm trying to address them in the appropriate places. Those we don't get to here, I'll try to answer over on my Instagram Stories. As for adding records that are missed entirely, unfortunately we haven't figured out a way to do that yet. But, we are working on it.

      @@CristaCowan Thank you. I do enter corrections as I can. If the name I want is not indexed sometimes I link to a name that's close to not confuse the hint process, not giving corrections. Or I may just link to the page to have the source in my profile. I will often go through giving corrections to other surrounding names even when they have nothing to do with my tree.
      I am willing to help with the indexing when I encounter these issues, especially if there were a way to add to the indexing. Would it help to submit a list of where I find these problems?

    My question is… I’m thinking that in the 1950 census, when the enumerator came to the house where my mom was living, they must have spoken to the neighbor or a child, because much of the information is incorrect. Do I go in and request corrections to the information, even if it differs from what is written?

    • @CristaCowan
      @CristaCowan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When viewing the record, click on the "add or update information" link. You can correct anything that has been indexed.

    Hi Crista, I have a question about the LifeStory function on the top banner.
    I’ve noticed that the biography window does not auto-generate the biography as it used to. It no longer displays the biography, but instead, a window is displayed requesting that I should, “Add a Biography to Personalize the LifeStory.” Has this function been removed or is it just not working on my Ancestry version? It was always a great help having it self-populate a short bio. Thanks for your help.

    I have a weird records request. Is there a way to find a listing and descriptions of Police officers in cities or towns? I got this request from a cousin who suspects her father is not her father but a policeman may have been involved with her grandmother before the grandmother was married.

    • @KimberlyGreen
      @KimberlyGreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that would be a cool request. And useful for other things too! I have an ancestor a few generations back that was murdered. It would be interesting & insightful to see who the investigating officers were, their reports, etc. It could also provide information on which family members were interviewed, addresses and all kinds of clues.

    • @NYbashaw3
      @NYbashaw3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The officer involved with her grandmother wouldn't be her father. Her father would be her grandmothers son who may have a different father than the man the grandmother married. If you know the birthdate of her father then go back approximately 9 months and find the son was conceived prior to the marriage then it could likely be either the spouse of his grandmother or some other man who would be your father's father.

    Hello Crista, about 10ish years ago, I entered much of my genealogical information that I had newly acquired onto my Ancestry account. Although I have continued to pay for Ancestry, sadly, I wandered away for a while. Is that information still around? Thank you, Maureen Fogg Tuohy. BTW, I just found your YT and am starting to watch the first episode.

      @@CristaCowan Okay, I just did some checking. Hampton Waller is listed as a son in Major Waller's will from 1793 in Nottoway Co, VA. When I search the Virginia Wills and Probate Records database for Hampton Waller nothing is found. Why isn't he found when I search that particular database?
