Native American language schools should be built & teachers should be compensated & trained so that at least 1/2 the school day is full immersion in that particular tribes language, book, 'poetry/song' prizes for all ages should be available & publishing houses for news & promotion of language should be started... this is good work & will allow creativity & reward as the language is promoted 3. There should be a NATIONAL GATHERING of all the tribes week in which reps of each tribe can come together with a fair to sell trade & share culture language experience... this should be held in concert with actual music, creative writing & food fairs open to all the public to support & learn about the Native American people & thus appreciation 4. there should be a separate NATIONAL GATHERING of all the tribes as a 'political' cultural linguistic evaluation... and we should have at least some politicians/1 SCOTUS Justice visit to hear about issues and commit to solutions I also believe as Chief Means did that the Native American People should choose their own leadership Also I believe more land should be returned so that Native Americans can be sustainable as they are really awesome at being when not being handicapped at each success so I would cede greater lands & ensure they could bring the Bison/Buffalo back, traditional fishing hunting gathering planting & growing etc etc If the 4 simple things above were adopted then I believe that the Native American peoples could experience a great re-birth... we are all impoverished when these people are diminished & we are all made prosperous when these people flourish: GOD created EVERYONE & GOD does NOT make mistakes!

As a child there were English families in British Columbia Canada that called me a filthy little Mick. But, as time went on I became just another white kid that slipped through the racial cracks. I don't know if my American dad was Native American, the stories said he was. But most Americans say they have native American blood in them, and don't. All I know my dad looked the splitting image of this man Russell Means, as a young and old man. Same hair, eyes and face feature and colour. He was born in Oregon, so was probably not. But wow! Small correction the Lakotas weren’t the first Indian tribe to defeat the United States on the battle field, the Seminoles had three wars with the United States. In Dec 23rd, 1835 two U.S. companies with 110 troops were attacked and defeated by the Seminoles fighting to remain in Florida and not be shipped to the Oklahoma territory. Both in human and monetary terms, the Seminole Wars were the longest and most expensive of the Indian Wars in United States history. Bruce Holcomb, yup they thought we would die off in the Everglades but we survived. Soldiers could only march three days out from their forts and would return cause that’s all the supplies they could carry but the Seminoles could live off the land indefinitely. @Kev Warriner and i drove a recycle truck for 10 years. Its a waste of time. Each "recycle" truck burns 50 gallons of diesel per day to haul what a pickup truck could hold. No kidding. Average recycle haul is 3 to 5 tons in most places. Thats nothing in the grand scheme. Now figure there are about 300 or more recycle trucks on the road every day. Lot of fuel.

By the way, the U.S. Constitution is not the only thing that refers to Native (Indian) American Law. Your perspective on what happened to Native Americans in general have all been relocated. It is something that my father spoke to me about in many ways but you really have to listen. Much of what is happening and has happened to you (as well as though who are descendants of same, Marshall Law) is and soon will happen to all Americans (our system is going down the drain) but since I can't go in detail, one never knows who is really paying attention and must choose their words wisely. I do remember you from the early days and you were considered quite "radical" I thought it to be normal but whether you be Native American or of any particular minority group, you will suffer. We were not promised a bed roses on this planet and it can get worse. It is good to be thankful and, yet, at the same time Native American People should never have suffered for what is rightfully ours. I guess the mistake was that we fed them but that would take a life time to explain. I'm not preaching hate and I don't believe that you either; just the truth which is very difficult for people to accept/comprehend. In attending several Native American Festivities in the past (in Northeast, NY specifically), why is it that many of the Native Americans Nations (it was tribes then but since we're making a comeback in, in some cases, thanks to better healthcare) are still fighting each other. We can become our own worst enemy. I think one of the only ways to get back that which was taken would be through Education (spiritually and otherwise) but so many are leaving the reservations because of the conditions which exist and no one is willing to return to the reservations and help. It seems that one must take one step backward in order to move forward. I could continue but it would take a life time.
I keep thinking we need to listen to more people like him and Wally Brown from Navajo Traditional Teachings. I remember when I was a young adult and Zeke Sanchez was my boss. He told me the AIM was watching over America just in case they needed to straighten us out. Here I am 3 decades later appreciating how convenient it is to look up their way of thinking. I've been doing a massive Constitution study every day for a month or so. Yep. We're all on the reservation now. They write whatever laws they want.

Here are the recommendations I have that I believe are consistent with R Means & MY BOTH agreeing that LANGUAGE is central to the problem to be solved...
The following things I believe should be implemented to help preserve, promote & inculcate respect for the American Native Peoples:
1. Organize Traditional Sports- lacross etc & set up leagues inter tribe, confederations reservations with prizes for all & especially for finishers... some skill based type sports celebration of skill sets:
archery, cooking traditional food fairs, carving, navigation with beads & natural markers... Divisions amongst these all age groups in competition is a great way to also re-learn & promote language
2. Language... Native American language schools should be built & teachers should be compensated & trained so that at least 1/2 the school day is full immersion in that particular tribes language, book, 'poetry/song' prizes for all ages should be available & publishing houses for news & promotion of language should be started... this is good work & will allow creativity & reward as the language is promoted
3. There should be a NATIONAL GATHERING of all the tribes week in which reps of each tribe can come together with a fair to sell trade & share culture language experience... this should be held in concert with actual music, creative writing & food fairs open to all the public to support & learn about the Native American people & thus appreciation
4. there should be a separate NATIONAL GATHERING of all the tribes as a 'political' cultural linguistic evaluation... and we should have at least some politicians/1 SCOTUS Justice visit to hear about issues and commit to solutions
I also believe as Chief Means did that the Native American People should choose their own leadership
Also I believe more land should be returned so that Native Americans can be sustainable as they are really awesome at being when not being handicapped at each success so I would cede greater lands & ensure they could bring the Bison/Buffalo back, traditional fishing hunting gathering planting & growing etc etc
If the 4 simple things above were adopted then I believe that the Native American peoples could experience a great re-birth... we are all impoverished when these people are diminished & we are all made prosperous when these people flourish:

Small correction the Lakotas weren’t the first Indian tribe to defeat the United States on the battle field, the Seminoles had three wars with the United States. In Dec 23rd, 1835 two U.S. companies with 110 troops were attacked and defeated by the Seminoles fighting to remain in Florida and not be shipped to the Oklahoma territory. Both in human and monetary terms, the Seminole Wars were the longest and most expensive of the Indian Wars in United States history. Russell Means was a great voice in Indian Country he is surely missed.

Much of what is happening and has happened to you (as well as though who are descendants of same, Marshall Law) is and soon will happen to all Americans (our system is going down the drain) but since I can't go in detail, one never knows who is really paying attention and must choose their words wisely. I do remember you from the early days and you were considered quite "radical" I thought it to be normal but whether you be Native American or of any particular minority group, you will suffer. We were not promised a bed roses on this planet and it can get worse. It is good to be thankful and, yet, at the same time Native American People should never have suffered for what is rightfully ours. I guess the mistake was that we fed them but that would take a life time to explain. I'm not preaching hate and I don't believe that you either; just the truth which is very difficult for people to accept/comprehend. In attending several Native American Festivities in the past (in Northeast, NY specifically), why is it that many of the Native Americans Nations (it was tribes then but since we're making a comeback in, in some cases, thanks to better healthcare) are still fighting each other. We can become our own worst enemy. I think one of the only ways to get back that which was taken would be through Education (spiritually and otherwise) but so many are leaving the reservations because of the conditions which exist and no one is willing to return to the reservations and help. It seems that one must take one step backward in order to move forward. I could continue but it would take a life time.
I keep thinking we need to listen to more people like him and Wally Brown from Navajo Traditional Teachings. I remember when I was a young adult and Zeke Sanchez was my boss. He told me the AIM was watching over America just in case they needed to straighten us out. Here I am 3 decades later appreciating how convenient it is to look up their way of thinking. I've been doing a massive Constitution study every day for a month or so. Yep. We're all on the reservation now. They write whatever laws they want.

That's not the point. Some tribes had slaves. Were not talking about that. We are talking about how we were almost wiped of the face of the earth. Enslavement doesn't have nothing to do with it. We faced sicknesses, genocide, dishonest govt, broken treaties. we were lied to and pushed into reservations. Yes we are fighting by spreading the word of our history so that people can know. We have that ability to fight back cuz we are powerful. We are still here. Some tribes are dead and gone forever but most of us are still alive and well but still being mistreated. That's why we fight today. One battle at a time. We see victory. AIM.
