As a woman I must say how proud of you I am. Since my husband got sick 15 years ago I have learned to do lots of things too. I totally get your happiness when getting it right. My vessel sinks just got here today. I will. Begin them tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for this video. I’m planning on putting wheels on a Malm dresser and will use the information from this video to construct the supports for the wheels. I looked and no one has addressed adding wheels to IKEA furniture, yet IKEA sells wheels for furniture in the store… although I’m planning on getting a more heavy duty castor for this dresser. By the time my stuff is put in the dresser, it weighs so much that I can’t budge it… thus, the need for wheels. Thanks again, Tiffany… you explained the process so clearly and completely that I have the confidence to proceed.
@@TiPrenee05 I did! I followed what you did but modified it slightly by putting 2x4 supports in going the long way down the dresser too to give the 2x4s on the side more stability. My dresser was sinking down in the middle so I wanted to fix that as well. The legs look great now and the dresser looks SO much better!!
@@cvsisthedevil1898 oh awesome!! I’m so glad to hear that, I wish you could upload pictures up here haha I want to see! I’m glad it worked out for you. 🤍
Thank you so much for this. This is going to be my first ever DIY project and first time to even use a drill. Quick question. At the start you had the 2 pieces of wood and an 8” piece of wood. I may have missed it but where was the 8” used?
Giiiiiiirl… I screenshot at 1:07 to see what size screws you used when I was I was in home depot last night. Putting it together just now & at 2:58 I see the screw size changed! Back to Home Depot for me. That’s what I get for always rushing.
Oh no!! 1:07 is the small wood screws that I used on the inside of the dresser at the end. 2:58 is me showing how I predrilled the holes for the legs. How did it turn out?
Love it! I’m going to give it a try… Any issues with it leaning forward with the legs? Would a 5th leg in the middle help stabilize it? Thanks for sharing!
I haven’t had any issues with leaning or tipping, it’s been very sturdy. Maybe because I have heavy items at the bottom and light items (glasses, jewelry etc.) in the top drawer. But no issues
Legend! Thanks for posting this great video, I really appreciated that you showed all the steps and didn’t skip over the small but important stuff like some DIY videos. I want to add some castors to a 6 drawer MALM to bring it up closer to kitchen bench height for a breakfast nook. How sturdy does it feel nice tall legs? Do you think I’d need extra reinforcement for castors? I won’t be moving it often, just for occasional restyling. Although I’m reconsidering because the scandi style legs you put on are very cute!
This is random but do you know the measurement of that piece of wood right on the bottom of the dress? The kind of decorative lip at the bottom that would sit right on the ground if you didn't have the legs on it?
This was the best tutorial I have seen for adding legs. I tried today and i had trouble getting the screws through the dresser after the 2x4…that i strip the screws ☹️ any tips?
Love this DIY! You had some great tips and it looks like you executed it perfectly 🙂 Only critique would be the audio loudness changed throughout the tutorial so I would turn up the sound and then turn it back down. Can't wait for your next video!
Thank you so much!! 🤍 I love how it turned out. Yea my voice overs aren’t as loud as my camera speakers, so my voice overs are much lower (with the volume all the way up). I noticed too but I didn’t feel like going back to edit all that lol plus I didn’t think the video would get a lot of views haha 😅
@@TiPrenee05 well it's better that it's done and imperfect than never done and perfect lol. So glad you posted this, I've been looking for content like this and you've definitely found a gap in what's out there currently. Keep it up girl! 😁
Curious why the torx screws and not just long wood screws? (Mostly because I'm trying to use what I have at home, and I have long-ass wood screws haha). Also how is the middle holding up? I have the same malm and I'm worried the middle might sag?
Thank you, I’m hoping to add legs to the IKEA Brimnes dresser I just got! I hope the bottoms looks similar to the Malm when I start assembling it so I can use your technique! I did have a question though - did you pre-drill the holes in the side of the dresser for the torque screws to fit into? Thanks! :)
Tiffany, this was a great video. I notice the Legs you used are standard Ikea. I have some that are similar. What size drill bit did you use to pre-drill holes for the legs?
Hi, thank you! I got these legs from Amazon, I don’t remember the size of the bit I used. Just do what I did and test it out, you’d have to do that anyway to be sure.
Hey, I don’t remember that. But measure the wood where that screw will be going through. Your screw should be about an half inch longer to catch the wood. But not too much longer where it’ll go through the dresser on the other side, then you would be able to see the screw. I hope that makes sense.
Interesting but now the weight of the dresser is being held up by 4 small leg point instead of the entire frame bearing the weigh. Wonder if this is going to pose a structural engineering issue in the future.

The legs usually come with a metal receiver that gets hammered into the wood and then you screw into the receiver. I don’t think that’s a safe mounting method. Beware of collapsing legs.
Shouldve gone in through the sides of the dresser then into the timber. Ikea sell hole covers. Being chip board the current way will start slipp over time.
Is the 8" piece of wood the piece that you use as a scrap piece of wood? Also thanks so much for posting this! I found it just in time to get prepared before it gets delivered :)
I've had the 4 drawer malm dressers and the 3 drawer nightstands for over 9 yrs. They have never tipped on me or my husband. I would say as long as you don't put your heaviest stuff in the top drawers, you should not have a tipping issue.
