  • Here's a DIY video on how I added legs to an ordinary IKEA Malm dresser. I also added a new boho, rattan webbed design to the drawers. I loved how it turned out! If you have any questions, leave a comment below, and I will help answer as best as I can :)

    What was the length of the 2x4 pieces?

  • @onepiece4life380
    @onepiece4life380 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the size of the nail/screw you used for attaching 2x4? Did it stick out from the sides?

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was 1/2” screw. It didn’t stick out the side!

    Hi Jenn! Does it need the extra support in the middle? Or 4 legs would still work?

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! I added extra support in the middle (sorry I didn’t show it in the video because I added the legs after I finished the project. I noticed it needed extra support) so in total I used 6 legs! Let me know if you have any other questions!

      Did you add extra wood support under the middle legs as well? And how did you make the middle legs look like they were centered if they weren't in the ikea wood?@@jnnliuliu

    I wonder if there’s any way to do this that doesn’t involve pocket holes.

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  ปีที่แล้ว

      One method I can think of is to use normal screws, and screw into the 2by 4 from the side of the dresser, but the downside is you will have screws visible from the side of your dresser.

    How did you put the legs in the middle since its not an even surface like the sides?

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually the middle is the easiest part! In the middle of the Malm there is an existing middle piece of wood. It’s fairly thin but it’s wide enough to drill and a hole and directly screw your legs on. So there’s no additional step needed. Just directly attach the legs. (my apologies for not showing it in the video. I only added the middle leg at the end after I realized the weight of the dresser was too great to not have the middle legs). Let me know if that answers your question. Let me know if you need more explanation!

    How did you put the 2 legs in the center?

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Malm dresser has a structure in the middle already! I just screwed the two legs onto the structure!

    where on the 2x4 are you adding the pocket holes?

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can add one on each end and one on the middle!

  • @radarmgmt
    @radarmgmt ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you explain the piece of wood over the 2x4 please? what's its purpose again? Looks like you just glued it on. Like your videos but man they're fast!

    • @jnnliuliu
      @jnnliuliu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the small piece between the 2x4 and the dresser? If so, that is a shim piece. It's just to fill in the gap, because you will find that once you align the 2x4 to the bottom of the dresser (see time 0:44), there is still a small gap above the 2x4 (see time 0:54). For that shim piece, I just used wood glue. Let me know if that makes sense or if you have any questions! :)
