I always used to mow at about 15mm, but took your advice and have now set all my cylinder mowers at 25mm, agree it looks so much better at that height, thicker, better colour etc, all the things you say, stripes look better at a longer height, less likely to go dormant sooner when we have our mini heatwaves. Your grass looks fantastic, read you overseeded with 70% p.r.g, so about September I am going scarify, dig up all my weeds and then do mine with a 80-20 mix of 80% p.r.g and 20% creeping red fescue, so hopefully it will look fantastic for next year🥳
Thanks very much for commenting Sandy ! Tell me about it 🙌🏽. I have everything I need ready to scarify & overseed come spring ! Hope you enjoy the content that’s planned 😄
Great content and great footage there! This is exactly the sort of content I have been looking for. There isn't a lot of UK content but is slowly getting better. I believe that the 1 inch cut is the best for the vast majority of UK lawns out there unless a) they're ultra level and b) you have some top rated cultivars that are tolerant of closer (less than about 20mm) cut. Keep up the good work!
Graham, thank you very much for your comment! Yeah I totally agree, with a cylinder 25mm/ 1 inch just seems to be the sweet spot 🙌🏽. Be sure to check out my other videos and thank you for subscribing 😁
@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance I think it's great channels like yours and garden lawn care guy are now on TH-cam on talking about lawn care, there isn't that many channels dedicated to it in the UK. More content on the platform means we should all get more views and views equal subs and we all grow together. Win win.
Hopefully so, also it’s a growing interest I believe, from different generations, it’s nice knowing the support is out there - I’ve been truly amazed by the lawn care community - also every sub helps 😂
Yeah well the aim is that a business could be formed within its own right, and I think definitely for you with your size of following your in a great place 👍🏼 hope you keep getting successful business over the water mate 👍🏼
That’s the way I was thinking, small investments with the money that you make, I do know nothing works overnight. The channel is brilliant for showing knowledge and your type of work in front of people’s very eyes. The most straight up review apart from actually seeing it in person. Good luck on the grind bud 💪🏽
I don’t use a reel mower, but I cut at 37mm with a rotary mower as my lawn is uneven so it hides the imperfections but at that height it stripes really well and maintains the dark green colour
That’s a tight lawn dude! I reside in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA. Keeping a lawn that height in our climate is rough! My lawn is cut at roughly 50mm (2inch)Professionals here recommended roughly 76mm (3inch) cut for the overall health of the turf.I would like to ask what type of grass do you have? It’s looks badass!
Larry G. Thank you very much for commenting 🙌🏽. I can totally imagine ! Weather is such an important factor, I suppose you need it long just to keep the colour if not anything else 💪🏽. I overseeded with a 70% PRG 🙌🏽. It’s came through so good and so far has handled the uk weather and heights perfectly ! Although the UK struggles to get above 15 degrees C 🤣
JayRock LawnCare Thanks for the info and it’s cool to see lawn care from across the pond. I’ve been considering mixing a PRG into my turf when I overseed in the coming months. It definitely has a great look! I’ll be checking out more of your videos in the future. Cheers!
Larry G. Definitely give it a go, it really does have a great look to it when the sun hits it !🙌🏽🌱. Thank you very much for the support dude, take care and stay safe !💪🏽🌱
Any advice when changing from a rotary to a cylinder mower . I currently cut at 50mm and the lawn was brilliant . I tried a mower like yours on highest setting and it has revealed a lot of brown and I am into the crown of plant in places . Just really not convinced I have done the right thing in buying the Suffolk Punch as when I cut low the colour deteriorates . No fault to the mower , i just lack experience .
Stuart Paysden hi there Stuart, thank you very much for commenting 🙌🏽. I use setting 3-18mm 4-25mm 5-32mm for these heights. On my Suffolk (Allett Classic Petrol) heights 1&2 would completely tear my lawn apart.
Ive been using the same mower as you for a while now on setting 3, but at the weekend i dropped it down to setting 2 and thought it looked like a better, tighter cut.. Im in Northern Ireland too, about 30 minutes from Robbie, Premier Lawns!! He also does great videos.
Stuart Paysden awesome ! Least you know who to call if you need a hand 🙌🏽🌱. Do you have a 10 blade cassette ? I have been warned off mowing too low with my 6 blade. Come autumn I’m going to get some 70/30 to level my lawn best as possible. If all goes well I may just try mow as low as you 😜👍🏼
No, i have the 6 blade fitted. You really need the 10 blade for setting 2 id say. When i cut on setting 2, you could see the cuting marks on the lawn, a triple cut was required to get rid of most of the lines. I think il be going back up to 3 next time!!
looks AWFUL. A bowling green type lawn devoid of clover, buttercups and importantly, pollinating insects! Might as well be a dessert as far as nature is concerned. Is it any wonder birds and hedgehogs are in trouble when there's no habitat for insects. Why such sterile zones are desirable is beyond me. you can have a perfectly good looking lawn with a little variety, everyone's a winner.

Great video mate. I'm over the moon watching this in the middle of Jan, dreaming of spring to get involved again.

Good video pal, not see it done before. Very nice looking lawn :)

I have The Webb Weh 12r push mower and after a year I am still trying to find the sweet spot height for my lawn.
Great video ,very helpful in getting a nice stripe.
Nice editing. Lawn looking smart too ❤
I have a similar video planned in a few weeks.
Thank you very much, I appreciate that🙌🏽. I will keep an eye out and make sure I give it a watch 👍🏼.

Hi I live in the UK I cut at 1 inch I. Summer and inch and half in spring and autum
What was that that came down the fence and sped across the picture at 1:41?
These are all super short. Many recommend 3-4 inches which is 7-10cm!
Oh, you've got a cylinder mower. Ignore comment above :)
Great video. I have the same mower as you, what are the setting numbers on the dial for 18, 25 and 32 mm ? Thanks for sharing.
Hi Mick! They are 3,4,5. The measurement is there or thereabouts 😄
Get it down to 6mm
😂 this lawn doesn’t cope being under 18mm never mind 6! 😂🌱

I have the same mower. Good to get some context to numbers on the settings.
Thank you very much paul! These mowers really are fantastic, and a fraction of today’s version
Great video
