My 14-year-old self received this album in 1972 as a Christmas present from my sister. We had a $5 limit on gifts! I can't remember what I gave her, but I'll always remember getting Honky Chateau and hearing Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters for the first time. Thanks for the reaction.
Big Thank You to whoever recommended this. Such a great song this time of year. I thank the Lord, that there's people out there like you. I thank the Lord for the people I have found Merry Christmas everyone!
Yes!! Just yesterday, I talked about the many people over the past 67 years of life, most of them complete strangers, that I was fortunate to encounter around the world in my travels. A few that were cruel, even sadistic, but the overwhelming majority showed kindness and compassion. All the best!
This 61 year old man thanks you for doing my request so soon. Your interpretation of the song hit home with me. I've been an Elton fan for around 50 years now. I will be asking for more soon. His catalog runs deep for me. Happy holidays to all the people out there like you.
That's a goodie. Elton John has a truckload of em. I've never tried to figure out the actual interpretation of this particular song. Of course I'm that way with lots of song lyrics. The flow, sound, melody of this song is beautiful and that's what caught my ear the first time I heard this song almost 50 years ago. Glad you picked it.
One of my favorite Elton John songs ever! TYSM for reacting to this! Hell yeah, emotion in Energy in Motion and when you let them move through you and sort of have their way, so to speak, you really do stay healthier and more balanced. Godspeed!
The album title is a play on the chateau in France, used to live in, and record. In the early 70’s, British tax rates were high, on celebrity’s especially. A number of British musicians moved from England, or spent months away on tour and recording. The chateau used was also a recording base for The Bee Gee’s, Pink Floyd, David Bowie. 😎
Love it, Shawn. Believe it or not, I can' think of an Elton John song that I like more than this one. Great melody, strong message and spare production. A+
The lyrics about saying good morning to the night made me think about people maybe working third shift but being surrounded by so much concrete and buildings that they can't see the sky. So they don't know if it's dark or light, although I think it is more metaphorical about beauty versus chaos. I may be way off but that's what it brought to mind.
One of my favorite John/Taupin songs. And, that album is one of their gems too. This tune, and “Tiny Dancer” were well served in the Rock film “almost famous”. 😎
This is my favorite song among a lot of great songs on the Honky Chateau album. ☺️ P.S. Those are mandolins that add so much beauty to this song, Shawn.
Elton John's song _Ticking_ would be a song that brings some sort of emotional response. I'd recommend the 1974 Old Grey Whistle Test live performance, but the album version is musically better.
OH WoW YAY this is one of the BEST songs ever I LUVit so so MUCH!!! Never even knew about it until one of my most favorite movies ever **Almost Famous** it is such a **BeautifulHeartWrenching** scene in the movie as well **Thank YOU** **BestSong&BestMovie** Awesome!!! **PixieTwirls**
Great reaction to one of my favorites. Just a heads-up on Elton's songs. The lyrics are indecipherable a good deal of the time. You're going to be much better off pulling the lyrics up to read along while listening. Someone Saved My Life Tonight or Where to Now, St Peter? are just two examples but there are more.
HEY NOWWWWW! 😊OHHHHHH YEAH, DEEP TRACK FROM 72'S ( HONKY CHATEAU ) SHAWN, THE 2 BIG HITS WERE : HONKY CAT & ROCKET MAN 😊YOU'LL LOVE THE PIANO BANG ON ( HONKY CAT ) 👍
Awww & the way **You** described it especially the last thing ya said (before ya read up about it) could make this my theme song **Nod** **PixieHugz&Luvz**
❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥my favorite Elton song ♥️♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥
Truly one the most beautiful songs ever.

Great request Jess!🙏
Thank you for requesting this Jess!
Great choice. In a similar vein, I also love Blues for Baby and Me and High Flying Bird from the Don’t Shoot Me album.
Bernie Taupin giving you his first impressions of his first visits to New York City around 1970 and 1971 when he and Elton first came to America.
"Almost Famous"
It's a mandolin Shawn, kinda gives the song an old timey feeling.
I’m a huge fan of Elton John, but I definitely like his earlier albums the best
I just love Elton John ✌️🎶
Gorgeous. I can’t tell you how much Elton and his music means to me.

My favorite Elton song ❤
I'm a New Yorker and this song gives meaning to "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" ❤
Never been, but I'm sure one day I will check it out
For Elton John? Always thumbs up!👍👍
Elton was amazing back in those days ❤
Bernie is as amazing a lyricist as Elton is a musician.
Early Elton is the best Elton!
"Madman Across The Water".....!!!
(It was a Mandolin)
One of my favorite Elton John songs ever! TYSM for reacting to this! Hell yeah, emotion in Energy in Motion and when you let them move through you and sort of have their way, so to speak, you really do stay healthier and more balanced. Godspeed!
I’m so glad you’ve gotten to this. This has always been my favorite song by the musical genius of Elton John. ❤
A great chorus by Elton on this one! It's still playing through my head
MANDOLIN 😊PLAYED BY HIS GREAT GUITARIST SHAWN ( DAVEY JOHNSTONE ) 😊
This was also in the soundtrack for the movie "Almost Famous", which if you haven't seen I highly suggest you watch it.
Lots of great tunes in that one....!

That's a great interpretation that I didn't think about, thanks for sharing 😁
Mandolin? And mandolins. Stunning background with a beautiful melody.
Thank you for reacting to this! My favorite Elton John song.
Do Elton’s Ticking. Its subject is accurate to this day.
Such a great album, every song is good.
One of my favorite John/Taupin songs.
And, that album is one of their gems too.
This tune, and “Tiny Dancer” were well served in the Rock film “almost famous”. 😎
Beautiful song, written after Bernie's first visit to NYC, referencing Ben E King's hit Spanish Harlem.
Great request and reaction❤ Beautiful song.
mandolin too
This is my favorite song among a lot of great songs on the Honky Chateau album. ☺️ P.S. Those are mandolins that add so much beauty to this song, Shawn.
Mandolin's!

Burn Down The Mission is a must hear.

One of my all time favs. Madman across the water next.
"Until you've seen this Trash Can Dream come True" Love that Line!! Who played the Mandolin on this one????????? Davey Johnston??
The buildings are so tall, sometimes you don’t see the Sun until 10am..

One of the few EJ songs I like.
A great song from January 1972… They just couldn't stuff any more good music into 1971 =8-)
