The THREE BEST backup singers AND musicians in Music History in The Elton John Band.... Dee Murray (bass guitar), Nigel Olsson (drums) and Davey Johnstone (multiple stringed instruments) who were the usual backup singers on the majority of EJ songs...a FULL and an AMAZING vocal blend, with ear orgasmic harmonies of SOFT to POWERFUL backups for just THREE guys!
I think you've heard enough Elton John to appreciate his impact on popular music. He's amazing! As mentioned below, definitely check out his live duet with George Michael, it's epic! Where to go next with him? I'd suggest Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, it's always fun to hear EJ rocking out!
"Ticking" from this same album is muy bueno, also. If I were Weird Al, I might simply change it from "the sun" to "your sun", which might add a different nuance to the song and singer. But alas, I am not Weird Al. I am not even Carrot Top. (Ask your granny.) Great to hear this again.
There isn't a bad Elton John song out there. May be some you don't care for but that doesn't make them bad songs. All top tier writing, singing, production and performance. Great reactions man.
His later works had many mediocre or less than tunes. Early on up until Goodbye Yellowbrick Road album most of what Elton and Bernie had done was golden or platinum. 70 or eighty incredible unforgettable tunes!
Another big, intense ballad is, " Someone Saved My Life Tonight", based on a true situation Elton faced. Also, Levon and Tiny Dancer are must reviews too. So many to choose from.
...listening to Elton's ballads, like this one, I just can't believe how much soul he is able to pour into them... I'm completely entranced by his voice... he's a master of his trade ❤🔥
There is a great collab of this song from Elton and George Michael out there on YT. I am so glad you did this song, it is one of my favorite from Elton.
Davey. Dee. and Nigel are excellent backup vocalists. But they are not the backing vocalists on this song. The backing vocals are provided by Beach Boys members Carl Wilson, Bruce Johnson, and Billy Hinsche along with Toni Tennille from The Captain and Tennille.
@@BronsonSlick Was going to say this has Toni T. in it This was recored at the Caribou Ranch and they always had many musicians cutting albums, and they would pitch in to help out, I do not know if Toni T. had gotten famous by this time or not so she might have needed the cash.
this elton song brings a tear to me eye every time. perhaps in remembrance of my youth - 21 years old when this song came out in '74. man those were THE days. another of his tunes to react to is the epic masterpiece 'someone saved my life tonite'. more really powerful drums especially towards the end of the song. : th-cam.com/video/A-2vN3YJ29k/w-d-xo.html
The album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is without a doubt, Sir Elton John's (real name Reginald Dwight), Magnum Opus. A Double Album with all great songs, and some very different sounding songs. Just play the whole album, I won't bother listing them here.
The next album is a masterpiece! From the opening title track, to the aptly named closing, the Captain Fantastic album is just one brilliant song after another! Pick any song from it, doesn't matter. ;-]
The two mindblowingly powerful lines for me: "these cuts I have, oh, they need love to help them heal", and the title track line: "losing everything is like the sun going down on me"
One of my favorite songs! Decades after it came out, it featured prominently in the drunken karaoke I would occasionally perform, alone in my apartment, as my divorce was pending. Sounds morbid, but the music got me through it, and it is not a sad association, but a celebration of what good music means to us. Those moments when music touched us were, and continues to be, the soundtrack of our lives. Damn, our generation's soundtrack was fucking great! ;-]
I had my first slow dance to this song, when I was at Summer Camp, aged Twelve. She was a cuuuute blonde French Canadian girl whose heart had just been broken by her Camp boyfriend. What a memorable 4 minutes. --- Oron of Montréal
But a small handful, every song on his albums from Empty Sky to Captain Fantastic are so listenable and amazing. As a fan since childhood, I was 9 when his first album came out, over the years my favorites shift and turn to some of the deep cuts and then back to the classics. I think, maybe save Paul McCartney, his songs, melody and harmonies and playing and singing, and lyrics by Bernie, might be the best of the last century.
HEYYYYYYY!!! 😊THIS IS THE ORIGINAL SHAWN OFF OF ELTON & BERNIE'S GREAT ALBUM ( CARIBOU )👍 THE BIG HITS OFF OF IT WERE THIS AND : THE BITCH IS BACK, THE DEEP TRACK IS A GR88888 PIANO BHANGER SHAWN AND A GREAT STORY TO IT : TICKING😊I WANNA SEE YOUR REACTION TO TICKING!
don't forget however you interpret the lyrics , its Bernie Taupin's Lyrics not ELton's so it could very well be Taupins life here and / or its just Taupins great song writing skills that he just made up this Story also.
These days the version with George Michael is better known, but I far prefer this one. Apart from having the advantage of his younger voice*, the sparseness (and the amount of "room noise" in the mix) in those first verse(s) makes a difference: it sounds like a depressed, isolated, person. (* To think he nearly retracted the song from the album because he thought his vocal wasn't good enough!)
ELTON. Nobody calls him John. What about the music and production? It’s interesting how you focus on lyrics and not the music. Back in the day, it was the opposite. Music first and lyrics second. That music in this song is impeccable.
“Someone Saved my Life Tonight” is a similar vibe from Elton.
Yeah, maybe a live version (central park 1980 maybe)
I second that!!
Bernie Taupin. ...what a great lyricist together with Elton's music.
Madman across the water has always been one of my favourite songs. He can do no wrong!
Love anything by Elton

Having a Beach Boy to add to your back up singers on this doesn't hurt!
There are two Beach Boys in the mix, not to mention the fairer half of Captain & Tennille.
You should listen to the live duet version with him and George Michael
I second this. Legendary.
yes, I like that one best.
Definitely a must
Elton John, "Tiny Dancer"!
Tony Danza? 😂
There is also an incredible version of this from the one and only George Michael 👍❤️❤️❤️
💖💖💖💖💖 "Bennie And The Jets", "Levon", "Saturday Night Is Alright For Fighting" and "The Bitch Is Back" are great.

You need to check out Elton and George Michael performing this Live! ❤❤ EPIC!
Another not to be missed beautiful song from Elton is Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word - just a gorgeous, heartfelt song.
Elton John? Always thumbs up!❤
Another big, intense ballad is, " Someone Saved My Life Tonight", based on a true situation Elton faced. Also, Levon and Tiny Dancer are must reviews too. So many to choose from.
Elton ❤️🎶
It seemed like he put out an album every few months in the 70s! It was a very fertile period for Elton and Bernie.
One of his most beautiful ✌️🎶
Thanks Shawn! Thank you whoever gave the donation request! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Great reaction as always!

oh I agree 100% ~~ The George Michael and Elton John is a killer !!! George Michael, Elton John - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Live)
One of my fave Elton John songs!
When Elton and Bernie were killing it with one hit after another....love Elton!!!!!!!!!
This still gives me goosebumps! Shawn, it’s so good to see you appreciate the music of my younger years, especially Elton! ❤.
Very very deep song and fantastic music. Sir Elton John is Magnificent!!!
He did a great live duet of this with George Michael which is well worth watching.
Superb reaction! Epic music by Elton. So much greatness in the 70s/80s!
Elton John has a huge catalog. A great song of his is YOUR SONG,AND DONT GO BREAKING MY HEART WITH KIKKI DEE.
Great one . Elton had some unforgettable tunes on earlier albums like Sixty Years On, Burn Down The Mission, Where to Now St. Peter, and Levon!
NO LADIES SHAWN, THOSE ARE HIS GUYS, DAVEY, DEE AND NIGEL!!!👍😊HE STARTED USING 3 WOMEN IN THE BAND IN THE 90'S AFTER HIS VOCAL CHORD OPERATION! 😊

@@MrRondonmon '74 was the breakout year for C&T. By the way Elton had a female backup singer (or two?) on his mid '80s tours.
I think you are the first person in our era who heard this song as Elton's song and could only concentrate on this song😆
As many hits as Elton has this is definitely one of his most popular.

Love this song! Not a bad Elton John song. Those were men. Thank you!🙂✌️
Merely one of dozens of great Elton/Bernie songs!

Yes indeed. My favorite album. Nigel's drumming on it is perfection.
My Fav from Sir Elton. ❤❤❤

I love songs that start out easy and then build up to great heights.
One of the only songs I actually like from elton - thanks for the review :-)
The 70's baby the 70's! Enough said
Love it , you should react to (someone save my life tonight )
Buried in this album is a nugget song called "Ticking" - a story song about a disturbed man. It is fire!
I had my first slow dance to this song, when I was at Summer Camp, aged Twelve. She was a cuuuute blonde French Canadian girl whose heart had just been broken by her Camp boyfriend. What a memorable 4 minutes.
--- Oron of Montréal
Growing up I remember a DJ would come out of this song, announce the title and always say “Sounds like a Greek play.”
Simpler times.
Sir Elton and Bernie, enough said!
I'm not crazy about George Michael but you MUST at least hear the live duet with Elton. It's one of the best duets ever!
The drummer Nigel Olsson's fills here really make the song for me.
my favorite elton john aside from tiny dancer and rocketman is "funeral for a friend"...crank it up in the second half with the guitar solo!
Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys contributed backing vocals.
I can't light no more of your darkness. Yep.
Great Elton tune. A slower one, but a great one.
Danny Hutton of Three Dog Night....had a friendship with Elton along with guys in the Beach Boys....totally cool 😎 Good reaction.

Elton has some great album cuts too! Try his song called Blues For Baby And Me😮😊
My fave!
Beautiful song♥️ great reaction Shawn♥️♥️

Ticking is soooooo heavy of a listen, but I agree he should give it a try.
I think that outfit was what he wore to sing pinball wizard he had these huge lifted boots on......
❤❤❤

The production for the album was pretty rushed, even for Elton. Ten days for everything...writing, recording, production.
A good song. Definitely not a top tier Elton song, but really good.
Danny Hutton is one of the singers of Three Dog Night.
It is definitely a top tier Elton song.
That’s your pov, mine is that it is def top tier!
