  • This review is of a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF); French: Forces Armées Canadiennes (FAC) Light Meal Combat Pack Menu #1 Beef Jerky. It was packaged in 2013. It is a supplemental pack to the Individual Meal Pack (IMP). It adds approximately 1,000 additional calories. It is very similar to the US Military M.O.R.E. Ration (Modular Operational Ration Enhancement). Link to that review: • MRE Review: Modular Op...

    As a former Canadian Forces Infantry soldier, I REALLY would have like these back in the early 2000's I'm just happy they have it now for the hard working boys & girls in the field. Excellent review!

    This light meal pack is a great example of outdoor activities energy boost food pack that you can easily tucking in your backpack...
    And the best thing is you can easily assemble a copy of this light meal pack with supermarket items!! :)

    Great stuff there Gundog! I hadn't even heard of these LMCs before. You learn something new every day! Oh, and I like how the Canadians put the year on their IMPS and LMCs. It's so much easier for someone not familiar with date codes to understand what "2013" means rather than something like "3179".

    • @gundog4314
      @gundog4314  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gschultz9 Yeah, I appreciate their date codes to, not as much as a mystery as the US stuff.

    Fudgee-os are like oreos but with a chocolate cream inside. You eat them pretty much any way you want, though milk is really nice with cookies in general.

    I think I've had every one of those items in my school lunch or school canteen at some point as a kid, lol. Granted, the Soldier Fuel bar was substituted for a very similar "Eat More" bar :P

  • @BRBTechTalk
    @BRBTechTalk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The soldier fuel looks very much like a Power Bar, backpackers and hikers eat them because it has lots of protein and slow release sugars so you get a slow burn from them. One of those bars and that lemon drink will keep you going for quite awhile. The Sunripe fruit bar is also a Canadian product that is made in Kelowna, BC it started off as fruit leather (dehydrated fruit puree) and has ended up being those fruit bars, they are available in Canadian grocery stores.

    Great review, GD! I've never even so much as heard of these rations before, very very neat!
    Spot on about the comparison to the M.O.R.E. bit for our troops... it's the first thing I thought of as well - this one looks a bit tastier, though!

    Most of these i can buy around the corner, they're all quite good. The fruit source are really sticky and acidic though. All of the generic packages were labeled 'made in Mississauga' which is jam right next to Toronto. Hard to believe they're so close to the US border, hour and a half from buffalo. Awesome reviews thanks!

    It the early days of designing ration packs , there was a pressure to come up with a candy that would not melt. So this the invention of M&M's that could take the heat with the candy shell.

  • @kevinbaker6168

    I wish more places carried these. The MRE's. are great for a couple of days afield, but these light meal packs would do for when you are able to have a breakfast and are going to be back by dinner. Will give you something for the middle of the day, but not so much you will have too much either in your pack or belly to slow you up.

    maybe it's just me but the jerky seems like the stuff from the end of a production run that's used to bring bags up to weight. but using smaller pieces would seem to be handier being on the move.... just pop a few pieces in and chew on them for a while.

    Hey gundog,
    Really like your videos. I'm a former Canadian ground-pounder and have seen my fair share of ration evolution, so of course your vids interest me. So thanks, and great job.
    That being said, may I offer a little bit of constructive criticism?The quality of your videos would not be diminished in the least if you edited out the mixing of powdered beverages. It slows your vids down, and pretty much everyone has seen powdered coffee and juices before. And you're not alone, kiwidude does it too. I get that you're just being thorough, but I think you could do without showing us mixing each drink.
    Please don't think I'm being a knob, I really do mean to be constructive. Looking forward to new vids too!

      +101chickendance I'm pretty sure it was just dehydrated and vacuum packed while still warm. It really wasn't that old for MRE type beef jerky. Cheers
