So fun fact: during phase two, while Rathalos is in the air, his wide-cone flame breath attack will always be performed immediately behind him *after* either he bites or charges a target. And it's always 180 degrees away from the last bite or charge he made, so if you ever see him turn around to face directly away from his last target, it can generally mean that the flame breath is coming out.
Note that it will never happen after the fireball stack, it will *only* happen after the other two attacks. The safest spot to be during that phase, by the way, is going to be on his sides.

Huh, I just looked back through all of my footage for that and... yeah!
Rathalos will only perform it's wide breath conal AoE attack after it's charged or bitten a target.
It won't happen every time, but that move will only happen after the previous attacks have gone out and he does a 180 degree turn.
Here's me thinking it was just randomly targeted cause there was always someone standing directly behind Rathalos.
      Learn something new everyday!
      Thanks for extra help!

In concept, this fight is very cool and unique. In practice.....it's a lot of being stunned and concussed when you swear you weren't standing in the charge line.

So completely accurate to the source material.

Remember, if you break off his tail, on top of the heavy damage to the boss, it will give you a bonus drop off the scales you can use for getting the equipment from this collab, so there's literally never a reason to NOT break off his tail.

This fight was always such a wild ride for me as a sprout lol.
3:38 I’d like to point out that not only do heal abilities and spells not work, but SCH & SGE’s shields won’t either. This is because their shields are dependent on HP restored, and with Scalebound in effect, no HP can be restored outside the mega potions. Shields not dependent on restoring HP work fine, however.
4:56 this is good practice for bateable AOEs in the future. Because you can see just how large the puddle will be, you can easily stack them close together along the edge to keep the arena as hazard free as possible.
Great guide as always, Scrub. From the looks of the comments, it’s one people definitely appreciate lol

When you target something - be it mob or pc - the game displays the health bar of their own target to the right, and you could use that to see who Rathlos is targeting, it'll constantly shift throught the fight simce Rathloss is the king of adhd

This as well! Great additional advice on how to spot it.
I just normally look at the party list being a healer main and having to esuna every single player and their chocobo in the fight. Lol.
