    The power of those horses at the gallop is amazing. My grandfather was a 'driver ' on such a 13 inch RHA unit during WW1, galloping into action against the Turks.

    It all seem very smooth and slick from way up in the audience, but from near the edge of the arena at their level it is so impressive as those horses, heavy guns and limbers go crashing by. I've seen it on TV and from down by the arena and the difference in the experience left a lasting impression on me

    I have nothing but admiration for those taking part, the equestrian skills required are enormous, and it makes no difference what a rider's gender is. I was actually taught to ride by a woman, thank you Vivienne, a fabulous equestrian.

    Girl outrider gets bumped a bit at 01.37 due to sharp turn is dismounted by 01.46 hence stop. Note second gun team runs outside first to stop as all the stopping space was used up. I have seen the display years ago at Earls Court Royal Tournament and remember a complete limber and gun overturned. It is not as sedate as youmiht think.

    I watch this clip regularly and find it absolutely inspirational. To me it is the horses however well ridden and regardless of the sex of the rider that I am marveling at. I ride regularly and work on a stable yard two days a week and mostly it's is women who ride. I have never noticed a difference between men and women's attitude to a fall. Some riders take it better than others it depends on the temperament of the rider, their skill in the dismount, their age etc etc. The kings troop have a connection with one of the notable horse charities who where they can, rehome horses on loan to suitable placements. Recently a horse named Penny retired back to the charity for a years rest before finding a new home on loan. She had served 12 years in the Kings troop. And yes the horses are not all geldings some are mares. It makes no difference to their level of performance. they are either suitable or not. the same goes for the riders. Over the years many women have served in the armed forces some in the past having to pass themselves off as a man. Let's remember this.

      They have special cords coming from their hussar busby so when they fall off they don’t loose them taken from around the peninsular campaign for hussars that’s only the British many other countries used them before
      They come down and come back up form the busby then there are two sliders one on the back of the neck one on the front the front park finally comes down and is curved around a button they hold it so they don’t get it jammed in say the guns breech etc

    I saw the RCMP musical ride when they came over and it is superb. However have to say this performance is not brilliantly filmed and I too have seen it done faster and slicker:you have to be there to hear the noise of the limbers and harness and see the teams going hell for leather with that weight behind them to really get the full effect:, nothing like it.

    As a ceremonial unit they should serve to remind us of the men who fought with these guns and horses, and I have to say I think the fact that the King's Troop seems to comprise 90% female riders in 21st century lets them down. They are our treasured 'little tin soldiers' and seeing matronly hips, boobs and buns-under-buzby for the sake of political correctness is just weird. Not only that, they look hurt and offended when they (inevitably, due to the risk involved) fall off and should any unforseen physical strength be required they call in the blokes.
    This is the Royal Artillery, girls. Not the W.I!

    • @kianbrown9056
      @kianbrown9056 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      cx1735 no offence but would you not feel upset or hurt if you fell off a horse in front of all those people while doing something you had practised over and over? besides she gets back up and continues and the ride goes on.

    • @ursie1986
      @ursie1986 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've no issue with accidents happening - I've ridden all my life, and my father schooled in the Troop for some years, has some hilarious stories to tell. But there's something to be said for the steely reserve of a bloke when falls (as I said) INEVITABLY occur, I'm talking really about the aesthetic of the King's Troop now. Because in this context, they are an aesthetic tribute. It just kinda doesn't look right, a bit wishy-washy with ladies.
      Hey ho, better than tradition dying out altogether I suppose.

      Women working within the kings troop is not for the sake of political correctness its for the sake of everyone having the same opportunities as each other. I don't think she was offended she fell off but more embaressed as I would be if that happened to me while performing in front of that many people. Fortunately now we live in a society where less and less people are thinking that one gender is superior to the other and your opinion is very outdated. Men and women in the army can be as good as each other they are not as you call them treasured little tin soldiers they are women who have decided to fight for their country they are women who have decided to live their life how they want. As a women myself there is no way ever that I am gonna have a man who thinks he is superior tell me that I cannot do something because I am female because I can be as strong as them as clever as them and I will live my life how I want to because it is my life and nobody elses .

      If they can the job then let them serve. Women were passing the All Arms Commando course back in WW2 and then being deployed in occupied Europe to fight
