I think they have the concept of fusion but they don't have fusion reactors. We did fusion experiments before we had nukes, but even now we still haven't made a fusion reactor that has a net positive energy output (aka you need more energy to start and sustain the reaction than it generates)

Something a lot of these short stories keep forgetting or just ignoring is this planet has been sending messages via radio waves out into the galaxy. With FTL ships I can see how the humans may have jumped well beyond the messages we've been sending out into the great beyond, but I have yet to see a story that acknowledges and incorporates those messages into the story.

I've been watching a lot of this series recently and it's all one big trend, the aliens are scared/ creeped out by human culture, action, activity, the internet as a whole, etc. Being confused by our faces and how different we are, but wouldn't we feel the same? An alien species so wildly different from our own would surely scare us, hearing of alien invasion would almost certainly cause some form of mass suicide and panic. This is all one big ego boost for us.
So true but if you look at pop culture and media over the decades movies always depict humans reacting and horrified by the appearance of aliens, fearing them. So surely we can have stories that go the other way. But these stories do get generic after a while.

Aliens try to invade earth and make the same mistake: Their scientific probe returns images of men in crude metal suits riding horses and hitting each other with swords. The alien invasion takes a few centuries to prepare and arrive, as they fail to realise that the human capacity for reckless experimentation greatly accelerates their rate of scientific progress compared to other known intelligent species. The invasion arrives in the middle of WW2.

Actually, most wars nowadays are started because it’s profitable. Profitable for the politicians and the companies and corporations, it isn’t profitable for everyone else.
We wage war 24/7 it’s just that we don’t hear about it.
That’s not necessarily true for as Carl con Clausewitz said “WAR IS A MERE CONTINUATION OF POLICY BY OTHER MEANS.” After all we had political discourse with Japan before Pearl Harbor, after our political discourse came in the form of active conflict.

Which reminds me of something that has always bothered me with these stories, a lot of them have elements of social justice that I don't think would be accurate. For example, many of these aliens seem to be some idealistic version of these ideologies, like how they all somehow are united, even though they would most likely be in a similar situation as us, with many different nations with many different perspectives.
If they have this such a hostile reaction I wonder how they react to human defoliants

I highly recommend you go read it if you're interested in Science Fiction interstellar war plotlines.

Something a lot of these short stories keep forgetting or just ignoring is this planet has been sending messages via radio waves out into the galaxy. With FTL ships I can see how the humans may have jumped well beyond the messages we've been sending out into the great beyond, but I have yet to see a story that acknowledges and incorporates those messages into the story.

I've been watching a lot of this series recently and it's all one big trend, the aliens are scared/ creeped out by human culture, action, activity, the internet as a whole, etc. Being confused by our faces and how different we are, but wouldn't we feel the same? An alien species so wildly different from our own would surely scare us, hearing of alien invasion would almost certainly cause some form of mass suicide and panic. This is all one big ego boost for us.

So true but if you look at pop culture and media over the decades movies always depict humans reacting and horrified by the appearance of aliens, fearing them. So surely we can have stories that go the other way. But these stories do get generic after a while.

FTL missiles that turn planets into dust. It's insane. Though it had funny moments. After 150 billion plant soldiers died trying to take Trappist 4 that was when its just like okay stupid story but interesting enough to keep me reading.

I’m sorry, but I REFUSE to believe that any intelligent alien race out there would be shocked or surprised at our history of war and conflict. If the Law of Conservation of Mass and Energy is an immutable constant of reality, then surely the concept of Scarcity is something all intelligent life forms would have to confront and deal with. And since life wants to, y’know, LIVE, it’s inevitable that some will do anything and everything they can to ensure that they survive and live on, even if it means denying the same to another of your race. So unless your species somehow found a way to create endless resources and shatter the laws of reality itself, never believe a Xeno when they say that they’re appalled by humanity’s history of conflict. If a Xeno tells you that theirs is a peaceful race and would never hurt even a fly, then they are LYING.
