The Ocean Blue....The band responsible for opening up my ears to a whole new plethora of music. If I hadn't, by chance, turned on 120 minutes one fateful night in 1989 I'd still be a pop radio guy (not that there's anything wrong with that). I'll never forget the 3 tapes I bought that day. The Ocean Blue's debut, Deep by Peter Murphy & HUP! by The Wonder Stuff. However, it was The Ocean Blue that was on the heaviest rotation. 30 years later and they're still making stunning tunes. Thank you guys...for more than you know.....ps. please come to Philly.
I have a similar story. By the late '80s, I was already into bands like R.E.M., the Smiths, etc., but I had never heard of the Ocean Blue until I saw a brief commercial for Cerulean (featuring a snippet of Ballerina Out of Control) during 120 Minutes in December '91. It looked and sounded really good, so I bought the album. When I saw that they were from Hershey, my jaw dropped: my home area of central PA actually breeds cool bands! (unlike the embarrassment of Poison). I've been a huge fan ever since. I got to see them a few times in the '90s (all great shows), and I look forward to seeing them next month in Lancaster. (and getting the new album, of course!)
@@christianalander9487 I saw TOB when they toured for Beneath the Rhythm And Sound and again for See. They opened for The Refreshments for See in Tucson and all of us TOB fans could spot each other because we weren't the trendy buttholes. I was wearing my New Order shirt and people would come up to me and say, "So you're here to see Ocean Blue, right?" We all got along with each other fantastically.
@@stevethefishdotnet Yes, there was a real sense of community among us fans of certain subgenres of music back then. And the Ocean Blue as a band were very friendly; when I saw them the first time in '92 (at Virginia Tech), their bass player Bobby hung out with some of us for a few minutes after the show. All-around nice guys.
@@christianalander9487 When I saw TOB in Tucson, it was just a few months before my 21st birthday. I thought maybe I could get in and just not buy alcohol, but they wouldn't let me. So I stood outside, sold my ticket at a reasonable price, and listened to the concert on the sidewalk while my friend went in. But the evening was fantastic because we TOB fans got to stand around and talk with the band a lot. We talked a lot with Oed and Bobby, and then I got to annoy David with all of my fanboy questions about his lyrics. Very humble guy. That was a fantastic evening.
These guys brought an American spin to the UK post punk wave of Echo & the Bunnymen, The Chameleons, and New Order. I bet Interpol and The National are fans. Great to see “men of a certain age” (like me… born in the 60s) making fresh, vital music. Can’t wait to see them here in San Diego (11/23).
Back in the early 1990s i went into a record store that was playing "Beneath The Rhythm And Sound". I bought it that day - about the only time I've ever done that. To this day it is one of the favorite albums I have (I have around 2800). I'm always interested to hear new music they put out.
The Ocean Blue is such an amazing band, and it's my hope to see them play live one day. If you should ever decide to play anywhere in Texas I will be there. I always thought The Ocean Blue was America's answer to The Smiths of whom I also love, but that's just my opinion. Generation X, I see them still...
I moved to Harrisburg pa just to be close to the innocence mission and ocean blue's old stomping grounds...would play their stuff all the time while in Hershey or Lancaster.
Thirty years ago I saw you all play with the Mighty Lemondrops and John Wesley Harding. You all blew me away and I am still listening. Please come to Florida...St. Pete to be exact!
Love this song. This is the first release and now we have "All the way blue"..... a trip back into the past. Dave is at the top of his game again. These songs are PERFECT.
I was telling my brother when I saw this that it would have been SOOOOO perfect with the lead in to this video if when Dave gestured over it was Steve on the his keyboard with the ironing board. I would have started SOBBING.

Why in the world didn’t the music world recognize this gem of a band? Yet? Are they asleep?

Love the Ocean Blue! Saw them circa '92. So glad they're still making great music. Also, it's astonishing that not one of them has gone bald. :)

Glad to see they are still making music. Good band. Takes me back
