I put some serious time into this game-one of the first I bought for my then new SNES back in '91. The Stingray was always my favorite. If you get good the slow acceleration isn't an issue. It's the fastest car and takes the second most damage. Doesn't matter how fast you go, the game randomly spawns flashing cars in front of you constantly.
Port Town II is my favourite track in the game, mainly for the music but also the colours & effects like that ability to jump the track.
I dream about an James & Mike Mondays on F-Zero X or GX...
Nah, F-Zero X is the best.
Opinions, Love F-Zero X, but I think GX is the best one.
I always felt the cars where easier to control in f-zero X. I swear the shift mechanic did not work half the time I tried and used it in F-zero GX...but then again it was probably because I sucked at the game lol.
For me F-Zero GX has much tighter controls and are much more responsive.

you guys should play F-Zero X on N64. I picked it up at a garage sale in my neighbourhood when I was a kid and it had everything unlocked. It was a real blast, it even had a death race mode where you try to kill all the other characters by pushing them off the map or pushing them into the edges of the map to make them lose all their health. It’s real cool.
Also, once you beat it on expert, master mode unlocks and it's insane. I beat it when I was a kid, but would have zero chance of doing it now with my shitty old man reflexes.
I still remember the day that my buddy beat King on Expert, such ridiculous difficulty, it took weeks of practice during the summer.
I like watching Mike do really well at old games. This, Zelda, or even any other game that he practices at.
Still among the best racing games *EVER* made.

McMenamins is a family owned chain in the pacific NW. They always have good food and beer and each location is unique so it is a pretty fun adventure going to each and every one.
This video reminded me how special the stage colors were to me when I was little. I often didn't memorize stage names or numbers. I would always say "I got to the black level" When you progressed in the game and the color changed, it seemed really special. It's memories like that that make retro gaming fun.
Love f-zero!! Such an amazing series, would like to see them revive this franchise!!
12:52 McMenamins is a chain of breweries and restaurants (brewpubs) known for buying old buildings to convert to breweries and restaurants. Each one has a unique name, like McMenamin's Kennedy School (named for the elementary school building it occupies), Olympic Club (for the gentleman's club that used to occupy the same spot), or Queen Anne (for the neighborhood of Queen Anne where the brewpub is located.)

They actually approached Nintendo about making a new F-ZERO game for the Wii U and Nintendo said no.

Also, don't hold your breath for Nintendo to make a new F-ZERO game any time soon. Miyamoto has said during interviews that the last 2 GBA F-ZERO games sold poorly and he doesn't feel anyone would ever want a new one.

Miyamoto isn't the head of Nintendo, he actually does very little nowadays other than PR stuff because of his history. He's extremely old fashioned and doesn't understand what new games should be like - If it was up to him, Mario would still be exclusively 2D.
Ghorza I don't think you understand Miyamoto very well. Miyamoto understands games better than most modern gamers. But what Miyamoto is attracted to is actual GAMES. This is very different than the mass-media, trans-media monoliths that western companies want to make. To a western company like EA, they will cram anything and everything into a game to keep you p,aging and keep you spending money. They don't care whether they are selling an actual game or some weird product that exists to satiate emotional dependency, they just care about the bottom line.
Case in point, how many people like playing MMORPGS just so they can own stuff in game that other people do not own? "I have fun by making other people jealous of me" isn't a "game" in any reasonable sense, but it makes money so developers will cater to it.
Nintendo doesn't do that. Miyamoto has actually expressed a bit of distress at the concept.
I was never good enough for the Queen/King leagues when I was a kid. I should re-visit this game some time and try them out again.

This is one of the best games ever made for the SNES. Perhaps one of the best games ever made, period!
Along with about another 100 games I'd agree. There's some amazing racing games like the mario kart series, gran turismo, forza, and burnout. All are probably considered the "best" to some fans because they're all polished games for the most part and all have a different driving style.

Rock'n'Roll Racing was my favorite racing game on the SNES.

Battle Cars would be a great follow up video. Ive never done any research, but seeing this old F-Zero again makes me think Battle Cars was built off the same platform. Looks REALLY similar.
One of my favorite games for the SNES. I think it was a launch game and the big deal was the use of Mode 7.

Another Solid game good use of Super Nintendos technology at the time. I also enjoyed the N64 version with how many cars were on the track.

F Zero GX is one of the best racing games ever made. It still looks and sounds like it could be a current generation game. I would love to see it on James & Mike Mondays.
I have this game, but emulated on my phone. With a controller the game plays great. Still challenging and fun...

Oh, and there's a McMenamins in Portland, too, if you do the PRGE. It's an old school that has a bar and a theater and other cool stuff (and some pretty good burgers, too).
Yea there are lots of McMenamins in the Portland area, but the one you're mentioning (Kennedy School) is great! I also strongly recommend Edgefield just east of Portland.

i really liked this episode! f-zero was one of the launch titles for the super nes. here's some more ideas i'd like to see-final fight, u.n. squadron, ys III, and contra III-can't believe with them being hardcore contra fans they haven't done this yet!
Literally just like the last F-Zero video. Mike teaches James to press down after the ramps and they do better than they thought.

The quality just keep getting better and better.
When I couldn't use my left hand for a while, I figured out how to beat several games with my feet. F-Zero (not on hard), Mario Cart, Street Fighter, and Crios'n U.S.A were the ones I could pull off with just toes.
there is also e secret jump on level 2. you have to use your speed boost and jump all the way to te right on the right ramp after the finish line. then you jump over the city.
The lava level makes me think of Twisted Metal 2, the lava level where you fight Minion.
Playing the final level on the hardest difficulty was one of the few hardest things I felt like was truly hard without being unfair but I eventually did it, which was nice.
I'm pretty sure the "1up" sound for a new life is actually just a way for the game to tell you that you've beat a time record for that lap. I also believe that's what he red dots beside track names are; an indicator that you hold the record for best time.

Aw yeah, I played this shit out of this back in the day. My #1 favourite SNES game right here.
I used to own the N64 version of this game. Some the characters in the game made the races easy.
One of the few games I could finish as a kid too ;). I used to be able to beat it with the yellow guy too (he's the fastest, but has the least armor).
I think you mean quickest. The yellow car has the fastest acceleration but the lowest top speed, whereas the pink car is the opposite. The pink car is far harder to handle and is much less forgiving to get good scores with, but has the best time potentials.
You're probably right - I haven't played it in 30 years :). I remember the yellow car had the least amount of armor too, but I found when playing against friends the yellow car was quite a bit easier because you could power out of those tough slow speed corners faster.

So, basically, Knight league is Day, Queen is Evening and King is Night. As far as i remember BS F-Zero features Bishop league which takes place in Morning.
I may not own a SNES (my dad used to have it 2 decades ago but sadly he sold it when I was a toddler) but the games are awesome!! Good thing that you can download most of these games on the Wii, Wii U, New 3DS, or on the Switch!!

+Cinemassacre There was 2 more sequals, BS Z Zero Grand Prix 1 and 2. Grand Prix 1 one was a remake with Muted City IV added, and 2 is pretty much a new experience with tracks. Hope you give it a try sometime

Guys, don't hit the accelerator so early before the race starts. There's four beeps before the start of the race. Start accelerating just after the third beep - not before that. That's the reason you keep starting off so slow.
There's a really good follow up to this on the GBA. THat one has got Big blue in it.
F-Zero GX is still my favorite racing game.

I like how they're using Samurai Goroh, almost everyone else goes Captain Falcon.
Always play as Wild Goose. Greeting for the non-Falcon players.
Actally Goroh is a lot of player go- to charcter. He's the fastest (or best acceleration, I can't remember) but has the lowest shield so more experienced players use him for his speed and just get good at not hitting walls. I've gotten all my best lap times with him
he is like Bowser from Super Mario Kart
except with koopa trooper/toad handling
Dr. Stewart is actually the hardest character to use because of how tricky his vehicle (the Golden Fox) is capable of turning corners despite how fast-moving it really is.

Anyone else wish Nintendo or someone would make games that still use Mode 7? Something about the way the pixels scroll still looks so appealing and neat.
I might get a SNES classic edition for convenience. I own nearly all the games that are on it except Star Fox 2. I looked into getting a fan made Star Fox 2 cart but too expensive. SNES is my favorite classic gaming console of all time since i grew up playing it and played the crap out of my original system as a kid. So many great memorable games on the system.
After Standard, then there's Expert, then it unlocks Master. The AI rubber band is tighter on you the whole time no matter how fast you go, and there are tons of the exploding june bug type cars.
Also, I think there was a japanese only F-Zero II which had another league, mute city IV, etc.
I met Mike's dad once... a very nice stallion.
Would be great if this came out on the switch.

GX is amazing. Spent many a night playing 4 player 20 lap matches.
You can also take a major shortcut on mute city 2 by jumping off the jump plate and sending yourself 1/3 of the way around the track without a penalty.Yep
More F-Zero! F-Zero X on the N64 and F-Zero GX on the GCN are amazing. If you like F-Zero you should try the FAST racing series. The newest one on the Switch, Fast RMX is really good. A good amount of cars and a lot of crazy winding and difficult courses.
man the quality of a regular SNES RGB. it's similar in quality as the sega genesis's composite video.
