A lot of people, myself included, were disappointed when this was revealed, but this very quickly became an addictive, fun spin on a classic game. I enjoy this more than Mario Kart now.

I honestly don't understand why there was so much skepticism towards this, F-Zero is exactly the kind of game that lends itself perfectly to a 99-player battle royale, it really should not have been any surprise that it's really good.
I said the same to my wife. Captain Falcon literally punches a dude mid race and explodes in the anime. So this game is about what I figured the games were like.
The thing that threw me off is that it's SNES F-Zero; same reason Joel was distraught in his streams. If 99 was based on X it wouldve had a good initial impression tbh.
But now I think 99 is a lot more sick than it is; it improved SNES F-Zero and took away its flaws. I just hope Nintendo adds more maps and vehicles to it.
1. A lot of people are sour on battle royale as a concept due to it being tacked on to a lot of franchises to try and chase fortnite bucks (the phrase "f-zero returns as a battle royale" felt like a targeted soul strike)
2. The first part of the trailer felt like the most obvious lead up to a new game/remake possible so a lot of people were dissapointed when it was revelead that it was (semingly) nothing but the og f-zero but battle royale.
3.Most people just want a new gx style f-zero
@@Jazio_VT Basing 99 off of X probably would have been a little too tall of an order, since you do have to consider that it's 99 players racing on the same track at once. Even with N64 graphics, 99 players on more complex tracks with more in-depth physics is a bit much, especially for a game that's probably being made on a budget. SNES F-Zero was the most reasonable and feasible choice.

Well, it got me to look it up. It was certainly an interesting thing to learn about. I have to admit I had no idea what the "having a thrash" thing Vinny would say was about until now. I get it now.
Ironically, this is the game FZero was meant to be (imo).
Massive amount of players, smashing into each other, taking risks and limited opportunities to pull ahead. Adrenaline and racing and violence.
This is almost a perfected version of 2D FZero and we all collectively had an initial visceral "Ech" before remembering, oh yeah, FZero is fun!
Not sure of the lore, but considering people presumably die from racing id hope adrenaline would be peaking.
F-Zero X bumped up to 30 racers from the original and even that felt chaotic at the time

To be fair, they experimented with the concept in X, which was chaos with 29 AI racers
It's just so good. I'm amazed at all the game design choices they've made here, down to the menus and ranking system
Vinny’s very first time playing the 99 Mode, against bots for practice, leaving the starting area, going in reverse, realizes this and tries to crash out, tries to hit every racer but they jump over him, instead he’s taken out by the Tractor Beam due to ranking out.
This will always be a Comedy Gold Vinny Moment! If Vinny ever does a best of 2023 video we need him going in reverse in F-Zero 99 as a clip!
And it came right after him admitting "oh no, I'm more stupid than I thought" about reading Mute City as Nut City.
While most people reacted ether very confused or negative towards this game, most of them changed their mind once they gave it a try. It’s very addictive. Definitely on a “wow, it’s actually good” side of “99 series” releases.
Atleast captain falcon’s public execution was fun.

A lot of the reason for why "SPEEEN" spreads so much is editors, too. I think there were several content creators whose editors edit your speeen into the videos because they watch you, and then it spreads into that community even though the content creator themselves might not know about you.

legitimately the most on-concept f-zero game ever made. I think doing this in the old style makes it easier to bring in new players.
I can’t believe something with such a… hollow-feeling reveal ended up being so dang fun. Game’s high-quality, addictive, and an absolute blast! I think this is legit Nintendo testing the waters for a new F-Zero, and it looks like I’ll be buying that when it comes out now!

@trayson yeah, I was being a smart-ass, but this is pretty much the perfect update. The extra frames make a huge difference.
Well they also added a bunch of in between animation frames for machines and certain effects like explosions.
Just more evidence that gameplay > graphics.
That and the SNES era produced a lot of charming sprite art that continues to hold up.

Watching vine go from "idk man" to having a blast just put a great big grin on my face. Good job on the videos
F-Zero 99 really is as fun to watch as it is to play. Probably because it's so fast-paced and unpredictable and there are so many possible outcomes with how many positions there are.
Everything about this game was made with such care for detail. It's amazing how simple it is and yet every thing was cared for.
With that said part of me wishes it was done with FZero X, low poly to keep the frame rates but the heavy metal music now THAT'S what I want to hear.

I was one of the few who immediately said “I’ll take it” when the 99 was revealed. Plus, y’all know that even if Nintendo made a genuinely decent follow-up to GX, almost everyone would complain about it not being as good as GX.
If they ported GX I'd buy that at full price.

Nintendo needs to hurry up and get a GameCube library up on the Switch Online stuff, we deserve Kirby Air Ride, Fzero GX, and other GameCube greats right there.
But considering how much they are still milking GameCube stuff, with the Thousand Year Door and Metroid Prime remakes, and the Pikmin and Mario collection with Sunshine, I doubt we'll get a GameCube library anytime soon

If you dial back a few seconds to right before Vinny finishes the match you can see the name tag of said Sauce pop up as Vinny passes them. I mean, that couldn't have been timed better!

When i first saw it online my reaction to it was just "oh boy another generic battle royale game except its F-Zero... fun." And ignored it... and after seeing some articles saying that it was as the title says: "surprisingly addictive" and then i decided to play it to see for myself... gonna be honest: its surprisingly addictive.
This game turned me into an F-Zero fan. Now i am wondering ones all the original F-Zero tracks get added in, will they also add the F-Zero GBA tracks too.

After I started playing FZero99, I realized the only reason I played as much Mario Kart as I did was because I had an F-Zero shaped hole in my heart that is now filled, i havent played MK since this came out.

I think the next F Zero should be like a Starfox Adventures deal. Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter who races on the side, so why not show us that part of him? Give us some like on foot action segments between races

I also saw the artics monkeys live in salt-lake city and I’m pretty sure I’m never going to see another band live unless there at most a 2 hour drive away since I live in phoenix
The first day of the drive wasn’t so bad but when we got to the apartment I got very sick from all the garbage I had eaten so during the concert I was feeling pretty grim
Alex seemed a bit out of it during the concert as well, he just kinda said the name of the song that was about to play and everyone when fucking crazy while I sat there about to blast out of both ends
None the less it was pretty fun, I’m never gonna drive that far ever again
