This ship has some of the best AP shells a ship can have with improved pen angles and British short fuse timers, as well as superb accuracy! Hampshire is not without her problems though, so check out this gameplay, and ship review to see if she is worth bringing to your port or not!

Fantastic review. You do it the way I used to do it when I did TH-cam ship reviews. As in you actually review the ship and talk about its strengths and weaknesses. So many of these so called reviews spend 99% of the time narrating a match which really isn’t that helpful. Anyway great job and I really appreciate it. With Hampshire it’s the slow speed that annoys me the most, that and lack of smoke. No way to escape… that being said I do love this ship!
That was always my complaint about Tbull...God rest his soul. I don't care who's taking Z cap, tell me why I should buy this ship or not.

@@rhysjohnson5444 it used to be hard to find, but now it is all readily available on the WowSL wiki wiki.wargaming.net/en/WoWS_Legends
Hampshire doesn't have short fuze AP. She has improved penetration angles 60 min/75 guaranteed and a very low arming threshold of 10mm. However the fuze time is the russian extended fuze of 0.022 seconds.
The arming threshold is why you can get full pens on DDs.

Your comment on the AP-centric nature of this and other Brit ships reminded me of a game I had in my Sommers: this enemy Plymouth had radar and used it on me 3 times, each time focusing on me of course. Thing is, I was able to turn and run each time he did and he kept bouncing shells on me. Even when I beached myself like a dummy, he couldn't kill me because I was stern-on to his guns. I probably got 50-60k of potential damage from him lol
Haha it's true, if you don't break 15 degrees of angle, you will automatically bounce everything except superstructure hits. No doubt Plymouth and Hampshire have Nasty AP. But smart captains can abuse it
It might not be the best ship but it’s certainly a fun one which carriers merits of it’s own.

Hey Derka, Thanks for the review. Already bought it, I really enjoyed playing it when it was a rental. Certainly would of preferred it being a campaign ship. Aside from that though, i always always always encourage people to buy the weird and unique ships. I love a new ship that gives a new and diverse playstyle rather than just taking a tech tree ship, buffing it slightly, changing the name and pretending its something completely new. I love ships like Graf Spee and Nelson because its something a little different and unique. Kinda like British campaigns, totally unique and a once in a lifetime experience 😂 OKAY okay, im done 😂

Great video (as always) Derka, but the question stands: is it better than Edi? Edinburgh is agile and with better armor. Granted the guns are smaller but the damage output might be higher. And it's a TT ship. Don't have to mention Plymouth...
Better? I wouldn't say that, theyre very different ships and hard to compare. Both are good in their own way. At the end of the day though Edinburgh has better armor (survivability,) better DPM, smoke/radar option, and is free. Even if Hampshire has insane 203s... And they are insane. Best pen angles on an 8 inch gun in the game
@@DerkaGames I always go with agile radar Edi. And I always go for the cap. An AP only ship can't stay behind trying to hit like a BB. It sure needs the play style that you showed in the video. Did you figured it out quickly or had to play many battles? I just think the learning curve and the difficulty of mastering such a ship would probably divert players to other ships.
@@aliengoa0that's the best way to play Edinburgh. I don't know why anyone would not pick radar on her, as even if you do get caught out by a bb it's so easy to bounce their shells with her awsome armour. Also I find dd players don't respect that she can have radar or don't expect it.
I prefer Hampshire over Edin. Let's remove the unrealistic 30mm plating around Edin and then we talk again, Hamp is the best Heavy Cruiser gun platform at her tier.

Update 06.10.24.....
So Wargaming has this 70% coupon going on and I was in the market for a cruiser and it boiled down to wanting a British cruiser as my number of British cruisers from Tier 4-7 are on the low side. The only premium I have is the Minotaur. I don't have the Tier 8's.
Hampshire vs Neptune....this was a tough one for me. I watched videos on both ships. So....for $20.00 I chose the Hampshire.
And boy oh boy am I having a ball with this damn thing. The Neptune was very tempting but I do have the Minotaur so it seemed like a very similar ship with armor made from aluminum foil...
The Hampshire's armor is better so that was one selling point...it won't blow up if I sneeze between salvos.
To Derka's credit, he's right about that top speed, it's not American dreadnaught slow but it ain't exactly a '69 Dodge Charger RT either...with a speed flag I can get the thing to hit well over 31 knots.
The lack of a radar is missed but a lot of cruisers don't have radar so what this does is remind me to pay closer attention out there, which is a good thing.
That citadel is weirdly placed but it's also weirdly short on length, which has served me well thus far. It can bounce some shells back there...can't do that in a Plymouth.
The concealment is very very nice....I have it down to roughly 9.4 km's with Mikawa. (I went with Fraser 16/3, Mikawa 16/3, and Yamamoto 16/3)
I think my reload starts out at roughly 8.8 seconds which is fine.
And speaking of British 203's...they are amazing on the Hampshire. The accuracy is incredible. I removed a Tallinn at 14 km's in two salvos.
This ship will absolutely destroy a broadside or over-angled DD....cruisers are the same story. I caused a bow-tanking Edinburgh some significant damage more than once....not sure how, not sure why, but it happened. BB's aren't safe either, the plunging fire at range is brutal, not to mention a broadside salvo. Put an epic reload mod on the Hampshire and that reload gets mighty low.
Derka did say he liked the Hampshire and I'm suspecting the 10 guns (with two front guns that rotate at 360) contributed to his enjoyment. But this is not a $100 ship for 17,500 worthy....in that I can agree with him.
Right now, the Hampshire is a very happy bank robbery with a 70% off coupon for a sticker price of 5,250 doubloons or $20.00 and that's what I paid for it out the door...
To be perfectly honest, unless you're in need of a proven monster of a Tier 7 ship AND entering an elimination tournament (taking place at the Bellagio in Las Vegas) that's paying out thousands upon thousands of dollars to the finalists; no ship is worth 17,500 doubloons or $100.00 in my opinion. That's an obscene amount of money for just one Tier 7 ship, but that's just me.
So far I've been vacationing in Citadel City with the Hampshire.
That's a steal for 70% off! Happy Hunting Moony!
So many options for a CA at tier 7 that are better. I think I'll save my gold. That was a pretty spicy salvo on the Vlad, though :).

To a chad player like you? Yeah I've been enjoying this thing! I think it would be super fun with a div, the only games I got frustrated was where I didn't have spots or tanking and just got creamed. Otherwise, the accuracy and insane AP is really rewarding

Hamshire is a fun cruiser. Plymouth is borderline OP and really shouldn’t be a T7 ship considering it’s a T10 ship (legendary) on PC. And from my understanding it’s also statistically the same as the PC version for the most part.
Yeah it has T10 stats lol. It's crazy, which is why I have a hard time rec Hampshire...even though she is good as well

Ships traits like "flair for piercing" don't have any effect on ship performance, they only describe aspects of the ship. Stalingrad also had F for P removed but nothing changed stat wise

Ive had no problems against it by just knocking out the the turrets thats the problem I've seen with it 25 is too vulnerable for turret armor

Speaking of the Plymouth and the Wichita I was considered buying either of them for Black Friday but I couldn’t help but notice the little disclaimer underneath the ship overview in the shop saying it’ll be nerfed in the future. Still worth??
It says premium ships are subject to being nerfed, not that they 100% will be. But they're both an expensive investment so I'm afraid I cannot advise you!

I dont know why I ever thought we would get a british campaign ship, its not like the other 2 rental ships became campaigns, and the next one will likely be another german one(anhalt). Seriously though why is WG so agllergic to having a royal navy campaign or some other nations I could mention too.

Hampshire > Plymouth. Higher skill floor but more rewarding imo. It’s my favorite cruiser.

Yeah, on paper Plymouth is the better ship. And it is. But after all, it's all about sensible use.
This ship feels like a weaker version of anchorage that’s compensated by slightly better maneuvering and reload
One match I spawned with an Anchorage, and watched in envy as he smoked, dropped torps, and opened up with 12 American guns. It's definitely the better ship 😅

No ship is worth 100 to me, you can still buy entire games for much less, and I've had legends since it came out. I've spent 100's on campaigns over the years but at 10 a pop, plus all the random extra stuff, it's hard to justify more than 20 per ship.

Couple reasons. Fraser is set up for Belfast and HE cruisers. I hate changing my build. And Fraser doesn't have full Speed Ahead. But he's a solid choice for sure

I saw her pen stats on wows ship builder. She feels kinda pointless when Anchorage exists with baltimore shells with similar pen. Unless they buff her ap pen to tallin levels like what they did to pyotr velikiy.
In one match I spawned with an Anchorage and had the same thought. It makes this ship kind of pointless with its 12 guns, American AP, torps, and smoke...oh and HE lol. I didn't wanna focus on it though since it's not currently for sale...but it is simply better than Hampshire

The citadel is actually a part of the ship, where the crewmembers that are not involved in the battle will hide out and not where the magazine is.
The armoured citadel is a bit different, it is a box consisting of the main belt, upper belt and armoured deck.
It protects the boilers and turbines and usually the magazine as well.
The main belt is usually thicker below the turrets to protect the magazines and many ships have raised citadels below their magazines to reflect this.
Like Y turret on Kongo which is the only part of the citadel above water, it is also the highest turret on the ship.

Atago is a ship I really want to like, but I can't get her to work for me. The reload is just way to long for her class and type

It's an interesting ship. I ran across one last night and it laughed at the AP from my Monarch. Not sure I'd drop dubs for it though. Maybe it'll show up in a crate drop at some point, which is how I've gotten half of my premium ships so far.
Ahh yes fingers crossed for a crate drop! This is a fun ship, but yeah I just can't recommend her to all players with Anchorage and Plymouths out there.

What’s the difference between Queen Elizabeth and Warspite? I avg like 93k in QE and 86k in Warspite, so pretty similar numbers just luck of the draw on teammates will make up a 5-10k damage difference. Warspite just got a slight accuracy buff or what?
Have had Warspite awhile but recently grinded the British bb line before the new British BC line was released. Maybe just have gotten better at the game since Warspite was a ship I’ve had awhile. Just wondering because a lot of people swear by Warspite being the best tier 5 bb, but I’m getting similar results between its tech tree sister ship
Warspite and Queen Elizabeth have the same 2.0 sigma so same accuracy as I understand it. Warspite however has normal fuse thresholds (.033 I would assume) while Queen Elizabeth has short fused AP. It pens less armor, but overpens less. There may be various other stat changes I don't know off the top of my head
@@DerkaGamescool thx, maybe just because I tend to brawl/play more aggressively at lower tiers the short fuse helps. Also big guns x tier 5 cruisers = overpens, so the short fuse AP is maybe the way to go. Thx for the info tho appreciate it🫡
