- Working on a records request transparency story at the Department of Commerce in Olympia, WA on both September 15th & November 8th, 2023. After initially receiving tips and leads that the Department of Commerce had a lack of training on how to handle the public coming in to conduct public records requests and with poor attitudes related to requests for records, I went to investigate if that was the case. It was not good overall, which is why I decided to go back and follow up on November 8th, 2023.
The story developed significantly into one of public records being destroyed, as well as what appears to be a cover up beyond that.
Let's dive in and see how this story played out!

Destroying Records needs to be taken very seriously
That is the issue here: It's literally a crime to destroy public records, and it's also a crime not to provide the records if they have them. So either way, it's a crime.
The incompetence of these public servants is mind-boggling!! Disgusting covering up for each other!!!
THEY NEED TO BE CHARGED AND FIRED FOR DESTROYING PUBLIC RECORDS!! TAXPAYERS CALL AND EMAIL COMPLAINTS!

Another interesting public records request would be to get the building’s maximum occupancy. And how many employees are presently using the building at least 4 days a week. It seems that so many government buildings are often absent of personnel. Key figures of authority are not readily available for comment or questions for the purpose of redress and transparency.

Eventually, public servants will realize their actions of secrecy and retaliation cost time and money to the taxpayers, and headaches to themselves.
It's just easier to be honest and transparent.
They are to stubborn, and their overinflated egos won’t allow them to do the right thing.
I think that positions like these need to be privatized with compensation based on performance.
But less profitable for them...why care if the people pay for their mistakes?
They do realize that. But when you just don't care because you're used to superiors covering up all your mistakes, or have been told you can do whatever your feelings incline you to do if you don't like something, plus you know the majority of the time any lawsuits against you will be covered by the taxpayers, it doesn't matter.

Why are we paying for these giant buildings if most people are working remotely? That is a HUGE building that WE paid for. Either Washington needs to sell these useless buildings and get smaller offices, or our public workers need to get back in the office like people in the private sector have to.
From the sound of it they can fit all the employees that actually use an office in the building in a shipping container or a double wide trailer, on blocks, in the parking lot.
@@tonycardone990 just watched his one on the FAA building, and it was mostly empty too. The FPS officer in that even states that building is leased. That is our tax dollars going to pay for a building where most of the workers are working from home.

Not just the higher standards we expect, but the higher standards that government employees and officials expect from us when we are the ones trying to get what we need from them.
It's amazing how civil servants at all levels, from the lowest receptionist and security guard all the way to the President of our country seem to forget that they work for us. We pay their salary, we emply them to be of service to us.
Why is it that they don't respect that and bend over backwards to help us in every way they can?

Yes they could have small substations. The rent would be less the insurance would be less the cost of upkeep would be less the cost of electric would be less. If you had to replace a roof it would be much less. When you have to paint the little building it would be much less than a huge building that's barely occupied
They will do what we allow them to get away with, much like teenagers. As long as We the People tolerate what they're doing it will only get worse. Good men and women need to do something, or evil will prosper. Most people just want to complain but refuse to stand up to the coercive control of the government.

Wow, that blonde lady was extremely rude and confrontational even AFTER the Deputy Director took over the encounter. Deputy Director was polite and professional and definitely should have told the blonde lady to go back to work once she took over the encounter. Also it's RIDICULOUS that police was called because you were in a 'restricted area' after being invited in, at least they called them off. So much for an impromptu meeting with a supervisor not being possible. As for the receptionist who allegedly destroyed, or has at least obfuscated, public records and Forrest looking into it I have my favourite quote from former President Harry S Truman, 'Trust, but verify.'
I’m convinced that it doesn’t matter what public building you go into if you have a camera that the staff are usually rude and only help you after a battle at the front door. They need a lesson in humanity and decency.

And when we go to these Govt agencies we don't have access to employees because the security is so tight. They act like people coming in are all armed snipers. Essentially the current state of play appears to be this: They have to decide if they are going to, based on the evidence you have provided, challenge the employees declaration and verify definitively whether or not the records exist or have existed and been destroyed (by way of digital analysis of the device), or whether they are not going to do that. They need to inform you of that, so you can either allow them the time and space to undertake that verification process, or initiate an escalated complaint beyond the department. I think I have that right.
I do not understand how you aren't sitting at 500k-1MM subscribers!! I watch a few auditors, and Lackluster and LIA are the tops for me, because they remain professional, and they always followthrough with action. You are often more well versed in case law and RC's than they are, or at least as well. We need to get your subscriber base up BIG-TIME!! You are doing the hard work for We the People, and more people need to see that!

She would have deleted the pictures and or video and she seemed younger so she probably knows to delete the recently deleted folder and by that point you’d need software to recover any deleted pictures and videos

You are exactly correct, access to services that we are forced to pay for have been mostly shoved out the front door. Now post covid working from home allowances have further restricted this if a citizen is having difficulty. My local FED building has turned to a dead zone. There is an acceptable level and cost of business, and we are over this line even if their is a disagreement of the service requested.

They would probably consider it a weapon and take it from you at the door. I had that happen at a courthouse in NYS. It was a metal pen, so it could have been used as a weapon. I had to leave it at the entrance and pick it up when I left. A plastic ballpoint pen would have been allowed. However they let me bring in my Keychain with about 10 keys and a bottle/can opener with a sharp point on it.

If they don't want to be there, lower taxes, give them a smaller building, and give out their home addresses or GPS locations, so people can go to their houses or wherever they will be during business hours.

How would this effect the curtilage of their homes, when their homes are their offices... the front door has a lock sure, restricted access lol. I’m in Washington State. This government remote work has got to end! It took me three weeks, four trips into the office to get archived building records because “the person that does that works remote and only comes in to the office one day every other week”. TWICE A MONTH?!
They likely aren't working those other days

Great job out there Steve. I feel one of the last things you should have asked the last woman who came downstairs to speak with you, I believe she said she was a Deputy Director, was if she had any communication with Forrest or anyone else concerning all of this prior to speaking with you. That way you could later FOIA her communications and see if she was being straight with you. As you already know, the ones at the top often smile and speak in pleasant tones outwardly, while on the inside, other things are taking place.
That blond haired lady..........sorry. i cant call her a lady. The karen witb the blond hair was definitely calling you a liar. She was standing there just waiting to jump all over you or anything you said. She shoukd not be a public employee that deals with people as she has no people skills. The other lady sitting down with you was very professional. You can tell she just would never treat a member of public like the blond crap did. She has people skills. Knows how to be professional.......etc. excellent work gandolf. I. Glad you are keeping up and following up with it.

My first time watching this auditor.. i hope it's a good audit. after watching, this auditor is for real, polite with staffers and straightforward with all issues. very well done and the followup in same video was a welcome surprise as I haven't seen followup on a workers usage of private phone during business hours.
They try every way they can to get out of doing their actual jobs.
I quit watching several audit channels earlier this year because they all seemed to start harassing instead of educating. You, on the other hand, are like a walking constitutional lawyer. Just a heads up. Those pictures and video are very likely still in her phone. Request any and all deleted files that day while at work on that day . They can be recovered.

Paula is saying she doesn't know and can't comment about Forest's handling of the request, but she IS the actual person who has/should have possession and control of the records you are seeking. I suspect she is also the person with the responsibility to obtain public records from employees. But, she's not doing that apparently.
So, not only is she passing the buck to the other guy for his own poor work, she's passing the buck to him for her own failure in her role.
And, of course, they both have different supervisors. Sounds like you need to request an organizational chart, too.

I never thought about public servants working at home🤔🤔🤔. That brings up some good questions... Like, what happens if they get injured at home during working hours..is that a workman's comp case... Would they say their home wasn't a safe work environment etc... You get the picture of what can of worms that could open up for the TAXPAYERS 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Any employee that works remotely should have a backup person that is available in the office.
Lol no offense but that's a terrible idea! One employee that's already too lazy to do the job they're paid to do would turn into two lazy employees unwilling to do the jobs they're paid to do.

These people are getting paid with tax dollars and don't have in idea of what a person can do to get public records from them. I guess it's time for everyone to get back into the office.
