I'm in the process of installing the three burner version, the Mediterranean, on my Bristol 32. I'm looking forward to using that big burner when crab season comes around.
Love your channel and your beautiful boat but you broke my heart painting over that teak. Have a wonderful new year and many wonderful new adventures on Moonshine!
Thank you and yes it sure was a difficult decision to paint over it, but after lots of consideration I saw that it was only a few trim pieces so I convinced myself to do it. Overall I am happy about the look, but yes I hated to paint it. Fair winds in 2018 to you! :)
Looks great. Don't apologize. Your boat, your way. Nice job on the paint. I agree 2 burners are fine. I have a 5 burner at home and rarely use more than 2. Subscribed.
Thank you and I'm very happy with the results and yes that is all that matters. :) Two burners are definitely enough for me! Thank you for subscribing!! Alfy
Another detailed project that will brighten up the boat and add some new kit. Happy Holidays and I vote for the salmon w/Pad Thai salad, garlic bread and sticky rice!!!
Nicely done Alfy...it looked like a bit of a tight squeeze getting the old stove up thru the hatch. :) Appreciated the level of detail you went into. Thanks, and cheers!
Everything is looking really nice. The paint job is simple but makes a big difference. I'd love an oven on my boat but I don't want to cut into the galley right now. Happy sailing into the new year!
Thanks and yes sometimes simple looks best! I am very happy with the look of it now and have a few more ideas for small upgrades around the cabin. Happy New Year to you as well!
This was a really nice oven. Congrats! It really brighten the place up. The oven AND the paint job. Made the hole place look brand spanking new ;-) God Jul...or Marry Christmas.
Thank you and yes that ignition will be nice to have for sure! Halibut is my favourite so I'm supportive of your vote! ha So glad to hear you enjoy all the videos and Merry Christmas!!
I think the new galley looks awesome! I saw the episode after this where you and Dev cooked the halibut and thought to myself “his galley looks very bright and fresh, I wonder if he did an upgrade.” Turns out I was right. Don’t shortchange yourself, that is a very nice upgrade and very noticeable. Love your videos, keep it up.
Thank you and so glad you like the fresh look. I am very happy with the upgrade and I'm sure it won't be the last thing I do to s/v Moonshine. ha Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos and stay tuned for more!
Giving up one burner for a broiler is a very good trade off. Being able to broil adds many variation to cooking. Lemon Pepper fish broiled, then chilled and the next day, take it out of the cooler and use it to make a Tuna Type fish sandwich. You know mix the fish with Mayo or Miracle Whip and make a sandwich with lettuce, tomato and cheese. Having a broiler allows me to do that with just about any fish. My favorite is Kingfish broiled. They are abundant around Florida. Oh and broiled Flounder too. It is 1 am and now I want fish.
good job!! i love watching your "do it yourself" stuff. i personally wouldn't have painted the teak, but that's just me LOL. Merry Christmas and happy sailing!!
Thank you and glad you enjoyed seeing the install! I hate painting over teak so it definitely wasn't an easy decision, but they were such small trim pieces that I convinced myself to do it. ha Merry Christmas!
Halibut recipe and your cooking right. That turned out really nice and gives me ideas when I get my boat this coming summer. Cheers and merry Christmas and fair winds.
"The boat is from 1982 and I can't make the boat look new or anything..." Ah, you should see my boat. I assure you, your boat looks new in comparison despite being two years older! Your boat is beautiful.
The shinny new stove and fresh paint make a big difference. That melamine paint is tough stuff...thanks for sharing. BTW, if I were close by I would have totally bought your old stove. I have the original chocolate brown ENO in my 1980 C&C Landfall38...just going to stainless would be a major update. Problem is, the old stove works fine so it stays on the boat lol.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed this episode! I have heard good things about this type of paint so I am looking forward to seeing if it is as tough as I've heard. :) Darn, I wish you were closer as well because I would like the old stoce to go to a good home as I lnow it has many more years of life left.
I, on the other hand, do like the maintenance vlogs. Don't care which fish but would like to see that broiler in action if you get a chance. Would it make decent toast?
Nice work, man! What do you think about using one of those green scrubbies to apply a little teak oil in the cabin. You probably don't have to sand it. It takes a week till you can breath in the boat after teak oil.
Thank you! Oh yes, I oil all the teak in the boat about once a year. If you look waaaay back in my videos you'll find an old episode about just that. :)
Good little swap there. Hopefully it works out nice, and didn't take too long to get used to. An '82 you say? Looks pretty good for her age at least from what I've seen. I kind of like the wood in there, its a nice touch. Although, you are right, taking the teak trim off does help make it match with the rest a bit better. Merry Christmas out there!
For an unexpected little project, I sure am happy with the upgrade and the results of the painting. I hate painting over teak, but they were such small trims pieces and it definitely looks better all white I think. :) Merry Christmas!!
I kind of like the teak trim with the white paneling, I guess it is up to you. Happy cooking. Don't care which - about time you showed off your cooking skills and cooked for Devlin?
I hate painting over teak, but they were such small trim pieces so I was able to convince myself to do it. :) I can cook, but not even close to Devlin's skills! ha
Thank you and really glad you enjoyed this episode! I could show everyone how to heat up soup out of a can. ha I think most people will enjoy seeing Devlin's cooking skills. :) ha
Very nice upgrades! I believe you'll really enjoy the new stove. Y'all do a Salmon recipe please,,,I can get Salmon easier around here,,,but either would be ok. Take care and Merry Christmas from Craig in South Carolina!
Beautiful new stove.....but just wondering..it's still a "little stove...why in the heck are they so expensive. It's just unbelievable. LOL How do the manufactures justify it? Any thoughts on that?
I only use two burners 95% of the time. I also noticed your broiler only works on the top...My oven at home on broil uses both elements, top and bottom. Does your other burner on the bottom kick in as well???
So Alfie it’s been a year. Are you still happy with the stove? How well does the oven hold temp? Have you baked in it? I’m looking at the Mediterranean model. Would you recommend?
Love the stove still and we have done lottos baking in it. I went with this model because I rarely used the third burner, so I guess you need to figure out that part and if it would work for you as well. :)
Hi, love your videos. I have a question about the gas line that goes to the stove. When it swings on the gimble how does it not stress the gas line ? Probably prevented in some manner, I was just curious. By the way, you have got to have the cleanest sailboat in the water. 👍
Thank you! No problem for the gas line as it sits slack behind the stove. The important thing with gimballed stoves is that you have enough line so it doesn't pull when the stove is unlocked.
Christmas turkey. That would be an intense odor in that confined space. Don't forget to do a pre-burn before you cook anything in the over. To get rid of any oil or other contaminants on the metal surfaces - you've probably already thought of that but if not, the odor given of wouldn't be nearly as wonderful as turkey in the over.
I was curious about how you were going to get in in there. I figured you would somehow get a lever underneath it. But you muscled your way through it! Nice job. Looks good. I think I'm going to purchase a little Dickinson propane heater for my small RV and install it next spring. What I've seen online suggests they are high quality. Is that your opinion of your stove?
oh yes, sometimes you just have to muscle it in! hah I have heard good things about Dickinson products and my little wall furnace is Dickinson. I have been very happy with it! :) Good luck with your install!
Didn't you mean you were going to cook Devlin a meal? :) I see you have a foot pump and three faucets. Do you have a mixture of fresh and salt water at the sink?
Well she is definitely the better cook, but I could try! haha The foot pump just pumps fresh water out of the tanks. An option if you want to save battery power which the pressure water system uses. :)
Andrew Williams I was going to ask the same question in regards to that. Like. What brand of primer and paint did he use to get that kind of finish. Was it a two part paint? Or single? And how was the fume off on it. Was it very smelly?...
This was really well done! And most importantly, your clear photography gave me real-world view of what the 2-burner stove would look like in my galley. I’ve got a 1972 Grand Banks 32, with an ancient Magic Chef 4-burner stove. I hate it! Wimpy burners and you just cannot fit anything like a real pot on it. It’s a royal pain the butt to cook on. So I’ve been going back-n-forth between a 2 vs 3 burner. Since gimbals are not really a big thing for my trawler, you helped me decide on the 3-burner, the 2 would look weird in my installation. Now all I gotta do (aside from building up my bank account) is decide between the Mediterranean or the Force 10. Any thoughts? Thanks man!
We just installed the 3 burner Dickinson Mediterranean on our new sailboat and very happy we could fit the 3 burner. Our last boat which you see in this video couldn't fit the 3 burner with the space available. So if you have the room, the 3 burner Mediterranean is great!
Stove has been great so far. We added a second baking rack in the oven which was a simple order from Dickinson. I haven't made a stove critique, but you might enjoy our other video called "How to cook delicious meals on a boat". It shows the stove in action. Alfy & Devlin
I have same Hillerange on my San Juan 34. I'm looking to get the Caribbean. The force 10 has the fold under door, but yours has the broiler which is gold Did the new brackets you installed come with oven?
Ha ha yes he sure does. And Alfy will give be sure to give his usual detailed narration... putting the pot on the stove now, it's a good pot, holds 5 litres... right through to the final condition of the boiling water. Just joking around, I love this guys detail, he's the man and a quality sailor to boot.
Of course - still have it :) Still works great and you can see it on some of the episodes from the Cruising British Columbia's North Coast series and on our upcoming series for this summer. :)
Hellarange are great stoves dickinson also. just some thing to check the old stoves were 316 stainless and some newer one's aren't. see if a magnet sticks to the stove. Tell Devalin the only way to check a stove is making chocolate chip cookies!
If I make it up there this summer I'm one of the best for testing them! Having more white sure make the boat seem more spacious but you hate to paint over such nice wood.
If you make it up here to PR them I'll be sure to ask Devlin to have some ready for you to sample! Yes, it was a difficult decision to paint over the teak, but it was such a small amount of trim that I convinced myself to go ahead. ha So far I am quite happy with the results. :)
wouldn't you want your propane sniffer on all the time for safety , or do you only run it when using your propane appliances because thats the only time you turn it on at the propane locker
From my view, it looks like the rail was designed to be on the front of the stove top... It looks like the brackets would hug the pot then, rather than the ends of the fingers just touching the pot. Eh?
The rail is definitely for the back as that is were the mounts are for it. I think I had the pot holders in on the wrongs sides and if I swap them left to right and right to left then they look to hold a pot. :)
Glad you enjoyed this episode and turkey would be great, but Devlin doesn't eat red or white meat so I'd feel bad eating dinner while she watched. haha Crab are abundant here so that could be an option. :)
Halibut - she did a salmon already i think, on one of your trips. But the oven seems like a splendid result - looks great, you must be thrilled. Are you comfortable with the hose supply line condition? Is there any question about it's condition and whether the hose itself leaks? Thinking about the hose supply line that runs through the hull before entering the salon. A leak back there might allow gas to accumulate in the bilge spaces. Not the locker, but along where the line runs might be open down into the bilge. Mine was leaking until recently when I discovered it by a system check. I have functioning sniffers in my salon too, but not in the bilge. Disaster averted.
Sounds like you dodged a disaster! I have inspected the hose before and it all looked in good condition, but that is something I will check with my annual maintenance and definitely an item to replace if is starts looking suspect.
Looks great!
Great new stove! I have the exact one you had before. She still burns on!! I am jealous of the push start!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and great to hear that you have had the same one! :)
Salmon would be lovely...but just happy to see it working..thank you..
Salmon will come soon!
Yes, nicely done. And Merry Christmas!
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I'm in the process of installing the three burner version, the Mediterranean, on my Bristol 32. I'm looking forward to using that big burner when crab season comes around.
Sounds like a great stove for your boat and a crab feast sounds even better! :)

Nice job Alfy. Stove and painting looks great. Let's go with the halibut. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and halibut is my favourite! :)
Nice presentation. Made me want to go out and buy the stove. First things first though. Need to get the boat. ;-)
Thank you and I hope you can get that boat soon! :)
Nice stove.. we were going to go for the 2 burner drop-in but the smell of baking bread makes a good case for a 2 burner plus oven. 😁
Looks great. Don't apologize. Your boat, your way. Nice job on the paint. I agree 2 burners are fine. I have a 5 burner at home and rarely use more than 2.
Subscribed.

I think you should cook some Salmon.....just for the Halibut .. 😆
haha! Good one! ;)
@@lifeislikesailing you coddin' be kiddin me lol
I like the cutting board insert!
Me too! I'm really going to make use on it I'm sure. :)
Nicely done Alfy...it looked like a bit of a tight squeeze getting the old stove up thru the hatch. :) Appreciated the level of detail you went into. Thanks, and cheers!
Thank you and yes it seems that most things are a tight squeeze when on a sailboat! hah
nice stove and good work installing. the newly painted surfaces really look great
Thank you!!
The wait for diy video was well worth it.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Salmon! Super video Alfy! Well recorded and great paint and install-job!
Thank you!! Your Salmon vote has been marked down! :)
Everything is looking really nice. The paint job is simple but makes a big difference. I'd love an oven on my boat but I don't want to cut into the galley right now.

Nice new addition-and I hope the old stove went to a good home.
Thank you! Trying to find the old one a good home for sure!
A great job, well done. Nicely described - thanks
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!!

Beautiful new stove.....but just wondering..it's still a "little stove...why in the heck are they so expensive. It's just unbelievable. LOL How do the manufactures justify it? Any thoughts on that?
They sure make them nice, but for sure not cheap to buy! Probably so expensive because it is marine related which is pretty normal. hah

Hi, Hans from Holland here: please tell the specifics if you can: what primer/ paint, and if possible: the price of the ( beautifull ) stove

haha and Merry Christmas!
teak trim looked better now the area lools 1930ish
wouldn't you want your propane sniffer on all the time for safety , or do you only run it when using your propane appliances because thats the only time you turn it on at the propane locker
yes, I use the sniffer when the propane tanks are in use.
And a damn fine stove it is. ;-)
👍
Thanks! :)
cook some turkey for xmas and do a video. or even better do some lobster. enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed this episode and turkey would be great, but Devlin doesn't eat red or white meat so I'd feel bad eating dinner while she watched. haha Crab are abundant here so that could be an option. :)
No Teflon tape or fitting compound? It’s not a compression fitting
I see plenty of bubbles
Banana bread. If I was to vote... I’d vote for Banana bread. 😎
That would be an amazing smell! I just spoke to Devlin and it sounds like it might just happen at some point. :)
Alfie, Halibut please and video you and Devlin catching it first!
That would be great! ha

Thanks! I'm hoping to try many new meals! :)
So you lost oven space because it’s made up in height which is generally not needed.
