The closing words from the lady at the end were incredibly powerful. There's so much varied opinion on training methods but she hit the nail on the head with needing to do what works for you and most importantly the dog. So much respect for that change of opinion and view point.

I often watch his videos but enjoy Tom's more. Tom is more about getting the owner to do it right. After all, the owner is probably what caused the problem in the first place. I know it was my tightening the leash every time we passed another dog that caused our reactivity. Once I "loose leashed" our GSD, no more problems. Go figure!

Even whilst being reactive, these dog participants appeared more "polite" than the usual cases we see on this channel. LoL ! (It's lovely and nothing against any dog, owner, country!) Luna was ready and waiting for her owner to connect with a trainer and methods that matched them. It was obvious Luna kept looking for direction from her owner. That pair will be able to accomplish whatever they wish if they maintain and build on Luna's laser sharp focus. All of the participants made great progress; the owners were so open and willing to try different things. Fantastic to see how Tom always strengthens the dog /owner bond while problem solving. The future looks great for them all (including the cheeky tug thief! 😂) As Tom always says, the dog/owner relationship is the foundation and once it's solid, you just build from there! Thank you!

I was the same, but UCA and Stonie helped me to change a lot, i can really give all the praise i can to them and would still not even come close to what i learned from them for free! You can spend thousands on a trainer and see 0 results or you can try it the UCA/Stonie way and get good results yourself if you just take your time, learn from them and from the doggo you want to train. I made so many mistakes with mine, it would be too long, basically i wasnt letting her be a dog and she had a bad attitude, but after i started applying stuff i learned from watching this and Stonies channels, life got way better really fast thanks to them.

What made sense from videos today for me...

Your videos are always so informative and easy to understand. Thanks! However, I want to caution anyone who has a reactive dog to think twice before using a head halter (Gentle Leader or Halti) People liken a head collar to a halter on a horse. While it has the same effect, a horse has a much thicker neck and the chance for cervical damage is close to zero. When my large breed dog was 7 months old , I took the advice of a trainer and switched from a flat collar to a Gentle Leader. One day while on a walk he saw another dog and lunged forward. His body came to an abrupt stop and his head was yanked around due to the collar over his nose. He's been getting chiropractic adjustments for over 9 years and now has intervertebral disc disease in his neck. Please be careful with this training aid.

It made my heart sing to see how the connection between the owners and the dogs changed to one of communication and understanding by both 2&4 legged participants. They all went in looking like Eyore (Christopher robin) and the "here we go again" with no hope. As they each learned, the spark of possibility of a new and better reality started to kick in. Then, the owners each describing the joy of being able to actually go out and have Fun with their dogs, without the fear/anxiety, is priceless. May this bring about change so more people can enjoy their dogs in a safe and fun way. Great episode. Peace from New England, 🇺🇸

That's really what it all comes down to; quality of life for both the dog & owner. If these minor adjustments; slip lead, prong/pinch & e-collar can suddenly remove a chaotic stressful mindset from the dog, then it's a win win all the way around for both the pet & owner! Right 👍 😎👍 ???

How did I miss this?????? I live in London! Thank you for helping some of my fellow Londoners. I was messed around with by terrible trainers for years with my dogs, at the cost of tens of thousands. In the end I took the time (between dogs) to go and learn different techniques myself. When I got my next dog (I'm a large breed, working dog lover) I was more than capable to cope with the different things that came up. Some things I needed a bit of advice on, but I did most things myself, built a wonderful relationship with my dog, and ended up with a dog that took part in search and rescue missions in the UK.
He passed away earlier this year, but I know when I decide it's time, I will be ready and if I'm not there are people (few and far between) who can offer another perspective.

Great to see a variety of dogs and owners that are open minded to do what is best for their dogs. Engagement is so important and helps your dog to not react to people and dogs because it's focused on you. Proper leash correction can be difficult to learn. I teach my clients "loose, pop, loose", in how to use the leash. I also have them verbalize it as they do it. Tally ho!

I have a newly 3yr old Male GSD. He was raised during covid. His original family took quarantine seriously and never had him around others or socialized him. I took him on with knowing a little of his history. We are a social family and now we can’t have people here, freely. He had bit my neighbor who is 13, nipped at my daughters other friend, and lunged at my 20yr old son WHO LIVES HERE, and attempted to bite. He didn’t make contact. He forgets who’s in the house and becomes startled. Almost like he forgets who he has met 15+ times. Even ones he has snuggled and spent time with. Now, he is possessive of me since I’m his #1 care giver and play mate.
I have a muzzle which I am working on the training. He HAS graduated the 2 week obedience school. He is wonderful at command. It’s that fear, he is so reactive, un socialized and protectiveness. He has a sense he feels with people being nervous. I’m in way over my head!!! Gosh, I wish I had you near by to help! He is big and strong! Combined with his old family and myself, he has bitten 4 times.
Is there a way for myself to locate and seek help from you. I’m committed to helping him be successful. I just don’t have the professional knowledge. The last trainer did nothing! No change!
    I’m sending a SOS!!!!!!

Tom this is your best episode yet. Bravo. It frustrates me to hear people calling for a ban on e-collar in Singapore and I only hope with videos like that will help change minds.

I just love how this guy is so sincere with the owners. He patiently teaches them. It’s more a training for the dog owners than the dog. Which is beautiful ppl taking theirselves to be trained on how to tend a dog. This is a beautiful thing. I absolutely love the way the teacher teaches with kindness. Great job dog owners you all are beautiful brave people. Unlike me. But working on it :)

Yes working with human ego is Tom's biggest skill in my mind. Because if he doesn't make those connections with the owner...the dog will pay ultimately. He's a master at reading what approach to take with each owner. He deals with allllllll types, so he's adapting how he makes that connection. Brilliant

Where would we be without you! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge so freely. My confidence with my scared, reactive, rescue Amstaff has increased 10 fold because of your videos. Which in turn helps him to improve. Sadly, it is illegal in New Zealand to use prong collars so we are limited to the slip lead down here 🙄

Awesome training, I haven’t seen that muzzle/leash lead in action during a training and it seems like a much more comfortable option for a dog rather than being muzzled. Nothing against muzzles just saying that leash looked more comfortable for the dog! Great video!

You also taught the one gentleman some great handling confidence that I think will forever be a big step for his confidence and anxiety. The head halter lady did great. My dog was so obsessed with feeling leash pressure that she pulled even with the head halter. Prong collar fixed it because she "feels" it without leash pressure, so real pressure becomes a signal instead of her comfort zone.

I feel for the guy at 930 with his anxiety. He kept forgetting to do what he needed. He would freeze. I have social anxiety too. Our minds are so focused on looking bad or doing something wrong that we do something wrong or look bad and suuuuper nervous. And I bet everyone being super quiet didn't help him much either. For me especially after I let it known that I have anxiety. Because that's when my panic attack comes in. Haha

My thing Tom is that, as a dog walker , I have never needed an E collar for my off-leash packs - my "outside" voice is the E collar. When I say "Let's go!", I expect exactly that - that they come. Any that don't, don't stay in my pack. What is most important with me is respect for me as the pack leader.

When taking horse riding lessons, the trainer would tell us the horse can't pull if there is nothing to pull against. I believe this has helped me in my dog training. I instinctually know now that if my dog is pulling, then I must be providing something to pull against. Popping the lead gives the corrections without the ability to pull. This allows me to walk without looking at her because if I feel pulling on the leash I just pop opposite the pressure I feel building and keep going. It's fun to see how training horses (and children) translates so well to dogs. Thanks for all you do to help people help their dogs! 🥰

Im a proud owner of a mix of different breeds, corso, pitt, rott, labbie and an istrian hound. She is my first dog i really owned and trained and man i gotta tell you, if it wasnt for you i would have a mess of a dog right now, instead im having other owners ask me to help them with their own dogs and really thinking of making a job out of it. Im getting my second in just a month, she is a show labbie mix with working rott, both parents fantastic dogs and a product of dog love going above and beyond reason. The 3 rules i mainly adhere to are, 1. Let the dog be a dog, dont try to make anything else out of them instead reinforce the good traits they have already 2. No forced training! If the dog doesnt feel up to it ( sometimes they fake this so you need to know the dog a bit) we dont train. And the third one, is yours, no bad dogs! They are all special and worthy of love
