It keeps the beads in place so they don't move up and down keeping the beads centered on the hoop. The beads should not move around on the wire with or without the glue so a small dab on the ends is enough. If all your beads are moving and turning you should re do with better tension.

I noticed you only glued the top beads on each side. Does this prevent the rest from slipping as well?

Do you put them in your ears like that or attach them to something else?
They go right into the ear. This is a hoop earring.
