Bobtail Lizards are also known as Shinglebacks among many other names across Australia. Their scientific name is Tiliqua rugosa (rugosa is from the word rugose, meaning rough, wrinkled or ridged and describes the large scales). The local Noongar people often refer to this large skink as Yoorn.
It is a unique lizard, found only in Australia and has many interesting features. In this video you will learn why it is sometimes known as the two-headed lizard, whether or not it is dangerous or poisonous, how it reproduces, what it's diet consists of, and much much more.

Great presentation and very informative, and Yesss! When they bite your finger it feels like a pair of pliers. We often pull grass seeds from their eye and ticks from their ears but once they know you don't mean them any harm they just wriggle but don't bite.😁👍

Thank you for this video :). Bobtails are such great creatures. I have a bobtail lizard (born in captivity) called Connorey (Connor for short) because hes the hot shingle in the area lol. They get called sleepy lizards but mine certainly has plenty of attitude and personality.

Thanks for commenting and sharing about your bobtail, Connorey is a great name 😄. They are pretty fast when I see them in the bush at this time of year, unless they are hiding - well they think they are hiding but I can clearly see them 😆.

Ive been driving all around the south west within a 60km radius of albany hwy, and am seeing and dodging tons of these on all the back farm roads. Havent hit one yet that im aware, as they usually hang out in the sun and can be spotted fairly early.

Roads are such a danger for our wildlife, particularly the slow moving ones. I’m glad to hear that they can be spotted in time to avoid them. It must be lovely bush around the area 😊

Honestly I hope more info on these reptiles and their life in captivity. I’d love to have a bioactive enclosure for one idk that’s just my obsession.

    Great video thankyou👍
The last time I came across a bobtail was last year.
I had to stop the car,put on the hazard lights & remove it from the road.
It was great to hear other motorists thanking me instead of having a go for stopping. 👍
I hadn't seen one for years or handled one since I was a kid...when I used to see them all the time. So when it reared & hissed I was careful not to give it my finger to crush lol.
    Great creatures..love em ❤️

Good on you for helping the bobby off the road 🙏, I'm so pleased we have so many nature lovers here in Perth 💚. A work colleague of mine was unfortunate enough to end up with a strong bobtail latched onto her finger last year. She found it while weeding and for some reason decided to touch it, it was pretty painful for her.
