    Thanks so much. I was getting ready to spend a lot of money replacing my ignition cylinder but happened to watch your video went to oreillys and bought the part and that fixed it.

    Thank you! You make a great thorough video with useful real life tips, which I really appreciate. Also, your little helper sounded super cute.

    Thanks for your video! Helped me a lot to replace my faulty ignition switch. Things to note:
    - There are 3 screws to remove the bottom cover of steering column. Two are the same, the one by the steering column is of different type/length.
    -Screw by steering column adjuster to remove cover can be accessed by just fiddling with the column adjustment and you will be able to remove the screw.
    -Top cover can just be pried by a flat head screw driver. Take your time.
    -The switch is only held by two screws
    -Tight spaces can be accessed using a ratcheting mini wrench with a philips bit head when removing the left screw holding the ignition switch.
    -to access the bottom screw holding the ignition switch, just remove the wire harness attaching it to the v mount using a flat head. Allows you to move it out of the way.
    -Take your time, approx 30-45 min job.
    -This was on my 2007 Odyssey

    I may put up the door replacement video with a huge disclaimer because I couldn't get to the tensioner before it got towed. It can be done ONCE without adjusting tensioner but...lol, I have moral qualms with putting up incomplete fixes ... then again, it worked for me twice, and your door sliding shut smoothly dropped my daily stress a ton.

    New videos coming! Chewbacca (the van) met an unfortunate end on a mountain road and was insured sooo...yeah. Got repairs for...replaced passenger side door guide, minus tensioner adjustment as it was the first time getting replaced...if the tow truck sucks at getting it out of here I'll tear the panel out and do a tensioner adjust because it would be helpful. Also...un plugged and plugged back in an 06 Legacy XT to fix a TPS sensor fault because...yeah 2k rpm doesn't limp uphill. Also...yeap had a brake position sensor go on a work truck and while that is a super easy replacement ... sometimes you need to be able to back out of the driveway so you can go to parts store right?

    No battery disconnect when I did my fix, I figured since the switch is dead unless igniting or running...and super convenient clip connector cluster indicated plug and run capability without the risk of hitting a hot wire. Used only the screwdriver and pliers. Disconnected, unscrewed and removed switch. Reinstalled, reconnected, checked, it worked so I put the screws back in. All in all it took me 2 hours to do, but the parts shop was 1.5 hours away and I was recording it in steps.
    ...making the video took longer than the fix lol.

      If you’re willing to put your head near the bottom of the lock cylinder you may be able to diagnose by just removing the cowling and listening

    How did you isolate the issue? I have no crank no start, Good battery,

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stuck my head around under the dash and listened around while repeatedly cranking. The odyssey club forum wasn’t super helpful then but because of the civic I had, I was comfortable tearing things apart so…problem seemed associated with lock cylinder
      Disclaimer: don’t do this
      Put in key, turn to accessory, Hotwire car (run a wire from starter lead to the frame or transmission.) if car cranks then the ignition switch or solenoid is dead, if battery is good and starter doesn’t fire it’s the starter. The other two parts of lock cylinder are mechanical not electric I believe.
      I’m no mechanic though so not accepting liabilities just sharing the experience

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My goofy civic id smack the ignition solenoid with a screwdriver handle while cranking. Then had to resort to hot wiring while looking waiting on the part…that got some looks

    hey, what kind of signs was your van showing. My van will start, but immediately shuts down, like it's being snuffed out. I mean. it's starting fine, it just doesn't hold it. the lights go out, and the green keys is the only light on after it shuts off.... security issue? not the same thing?

    Hi I have a 2005 Honda oddyssey changed the starter but when turning the key to START it sounds awful as if the starter is not wanting to get is started

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      KangoKid Kidd if you’re hearing like a buzzing/crackling when you turn the key but the starter is not cranking it’s likely the same part I changed out. ...I erm...made this video after I changed the starter on mine as well. Odyclub.com helped me a lot but not many videos. Always find the owner club for your ride if you are a fix it yourself type! ALSO, you still have to remove the bolts under the column but you *should* be able to pull the switch and after unclipping the bottom that the lock cylinder post goes into you should be able to see definite scorching on the contacts if it’s going bad

    How did you get the screw out right next to the dash board

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zach Montour the far right lower one turned out to be pointless to remove, I believe I had to use a narrow Phillips driver to get to them. Start to finish I used I believe just a #2 Phillips and pair of pliers to pinch and push out the clip and that was pretty much it...I may have used a socket to loosen the lever for the steering tilt but decided upon completion that it was ultimately unnecessary

    Replaced it even tried old one but the key will not turn right now
    Also the if I touch the plug that goes into the immobilizer the dashlight turns on.

    • @beanslinger3944

      Ignition Starter Switch. Be forewarned, in my experience (I saw a couple comments back the fix didn’t work for some) a bad ignition relay can create the same situation with similar sound.

    Thats crazy.. I changed mine and it lost the programing and the key cylinder locked up.. Fml

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pierre Boyd the key programming? I'm confused, the key does have a radio transponder on it however it's just for communicating presence of the key to the ECU, I'm not saying it can't happen, but this was just a physical switch change, no ECU fiddling involved. It unfortunately sounds like your problem is further up the cylinder which...I would double check because they are going to say similar to you, changing cylinder means getting it rekeyed, Honda can only do it and it's like $249.99 or somewhere around the area of $500 everything said and done out the door.
      Do you have your valet key to check it with and make sure it is on the cylinder (the radio reader is higher up in it) and not the key?

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pierre Boyd genuinely curious (let's fix this!) it's highly irregular for a switch to cause that unless it's loaded and energized when installed...but in finding this fix, I sifted down through a ton of "so it turns out the radio in my key died"
      Also tested mine, the chip detectors at the key makers in hardware stores will light up if it's operable and can be used as a test

    • @pierreboyd4107
      @pierreboyd4107 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BEANSlinger well i did have the battery connected when i disconnected the switch. I watched another video. Maybe i can turn the switch manually. I will try that and see what happens. Im trying not to tow the van or take it to the dealer. I have tools and would like to attempt to do it my self before paying someone.

    • @pierreboyd4107
      @pierreboyd4107 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also i believe i hear the beeping from the key when the door is open but key out.. Im not sure its parked a mile away.

    • @beanslinger3944
      @beanslinger3944  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pierre Boyd there is a door lock out for the power side doors on the dash to the left of wheel, mine has electrical issues in there and won't start when, the lock out is on when it rains because of it, even when the doors are closed.
      Cheapest fix first, the steering wheel isn't locked and it isn't that switch? Because from there I would start to look higher up the lock cylinder than where this fix is at, and at the Radio in the cylinder and the chip in the key. It losing its programming is just odd
