My substrate never looks like yours... I follow your recipe, but the sphagnum moss always seems to make up most of the substrate. I can't get that rich soil look that yours has. Any tips?

It probably doesn't matter. Don't overthink it too much.

maybe the spahgnum moss is supposed to be shredded? idk

If you have one on hand or can get one, use a blender to mulch the sphagnum before you mix it in. That's what I do for my substrates.
