Ayy congrats on setting up your first detolf! Indeed these shelves are the main attraction / highlight of my living space 😂 Thanks for watching & commenting! I’m really glad you found my tips/video helpful 🤩🙌
Nice! Indeed this LED + weather-strip combo is a tried and true method, keeps our figures well-lit and protected from dust & pet hair, at least for the most part ☺️ Thanks for watching & commenting!
Honestly, I just watched your video but I was very impressed because your instructions and explanation are very clear. Your video is also very easy to understand for beginners like me as you teach step by step carefully how to install led lights and how to make adjustments on the detolf for large scale action figures. Camera angles and lighting also I am very satisfied so it is easy for me to follow your instructions without hesitation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and share your positive feedback! I’m so grateful for your lovely compliments and I’m lucky to have your support. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found the instruction informative and helpful - welcome to the collecting hobby!
I just recently got back into Star Wars in June after a two year hiatus and I decided to give collecting Hot Toys a try this time around. Your video and this set-up was so straight forward and so easy to follow. Every other video was 20-30 minutes of dribble. I won’t be setting up a Detolf anytime soon since I only have pre-orders and don’t feel like playing catch up with already released figures but I’m looking forward to finally getting to set up my first display!
Ayyy welcome back to the world of collecting Star Wars! You're in for a treat especially if you're a fan of Mando, tons of new figures announced this past week so it's a wonderful time to be a Star Wars / Hot Toys fan 🤑 And thanks so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you found my video helpful / informative / time efficient. Indeed I remember watching some lengthy detolf videos when I first began my journey and I wanted to put something out there that was a bit more digestible, so I really appreciate your positive feedback 😊 And for sure, no need to rush into buying the necessary components for a detolf if all you currently have are preorders. Heads up, the home depot lights that I used in this video are no longer available. I currently have a new set of LEUMAS Lights arriving in the coming weeks so I may put out an updated video showcasing those LEDs next month. Stay tuned, and thanks again for watching & commenting!
at first i wasn't really interested with the detolf because there is not LED lights and dust proof in the shelves. but not after i saw this video im buying this thing thank you so much! you got my sub
Ayy thanks so much for your positive feedback and support! I’m really glad this video helped provide some additional insight on detolfs for ya - I heard they’re hard to find these days since they’re often sold out, so best of luck!
Thanks Mauricio! Haha there are plenty of better posers out there than me -- I just move their arms/legs and happen to make videos 😅 You're always too kind and I greatly appreciate you my friend 🙏
as a first time detolf user as I started collecting azur lane/fgo figures. Dustproofing the detolf is a must. Specially if you have carpeted flooring. I had mine up just less than a week and even though I hoover the floor again and again. I still saw dust accumulating on the base of my figures. Now I have the brush pile installed (6mm high, 9mm width) you can literally line it at the edge of the glass on the hinge part of the door and then the rest of the sides just a line it on the magnetic plastic lock mechanism. Its now fully sealed! Thanks for sharing your video and advice! The brush pile is also sturdy enough that you can pull it back out if you wanted to reposition it without damaging the strip itself. Although just watch out when pulling the one's you installed on the base and top board cause it will strip the paint. Or install it lightly at first only. You can easily reinstall it and the glue on it still sticks.
Nice! I’m really glad this video helped ya dust-proof your cabinets. Yeah I also had carpeted floors when I made this video so similar to you I would also notice dust build up pretty quickly prior to installing the weather strips. And I agree about the brush-style being the better choice… the foam strips weren’t strong enough to maintain their form/structure while applying onto the glass. But hey thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback & story! Happy collecting! 😁🙌
Nice! Welcome to the world of collecting Transformers - I only have a few of the ThreeZero Transformers figures but it’s always cool seeing massive transformers collections. And thanks so much for watching! I’m really glad my video helped ya out 😁
Aw thanks so much for sharing your positive feedback, I'm really glad you found my video helpful during your detolf-assembly 😊 I appreciate your ongoing support across the channels! 🙏
@@PosingwithPeter Of course bud! You and Justin host great channels and I appreciate how upbeat and friendly you guys are to new 1/6th scale collectors like myself. You and Justin have made it very inviting and pleasant to be a part of this community. It was needed after feeling isolated in 2020! Thanks! :)
Yeah man I just bought one these Detolf this weekend so getting some ideas on the lighting. But love your collection and how you used some movie plot scenes with your figures. Also peeped out that deadpool cameo with Dr. STRANGE. PHASE 4. awesome brotha.
Wicked useful information right here. I just got my very first glass cabinet (not from IKEA) and I currently looking for lights. I never thought about the dust proof option so now I know! 🔥✌🏻
Thanks! I’m really glad you found this info helpful 😁 Congrats on your first glass cabinet - it’ll definitely enhance your viewing experience for your collectibles 🤩🙌
@@PosingwithPeter yes, sir. Also, I am gonna have to buy another one because one was not enough (I don’t have a lot of 1/6th figures but enough for getting another one).
Awesome! I'm really glad you found my video helpful -- indeed IKEA Detolfs are a great and affordable choice for display these figures. They're easy to assemble, look pretty sleek, and don't cost a fortune 😁 Thanks for watching & sharing your positive feedback!
They are indeed CCFL lightsabers! I just route the wiring around/behind the figure (sometimes on the ground of the shelf) then zip-tie it vertically along the metal frame of the detolf and out the topside of the glass door where a surge protector sits on top of the cabinets ☺️ Thanks for watching & commenting!
Thanks for this video! I got a Detolf shelf a while back and I’ve been wanting to install some sort of lighting so my figure collection doesn’t look too bland.
Nice, congrats on your detolf! And yeah, once you've got some lighting hooked up, I promise you'll enjoy & appreciate your collection a whole lot more 🤩😁 Thanks so much for watching & for sharing your positive feedback! 🙏
@@PosingwithPeter Yep! I actually went out and bought the same LED strip lights you have, and installed them today. I also have acrylic stands to make my figures rise/leveled and it looks great!
LukeLight System is the way to go hands down. A little pricey but they make the lighting system specifically for these cabinets. I bought a set and what a night and day difference and it is so much cleaner. You can't even notice the wiring or the zip ties because they match the cabinet rod colors. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
Ah yeah I’ve heard great things about them too. I made this video back in 2019 before I knew of LukeLight (I think I had only known of Ikea’s dioder LEDs at that time). I do remember checking on LukeLight when I first heard about them but they were always sold out 😕 But I’ve seen pics of collections using their lights and indeed they look great.
oo nice, I was looking for lights to the detolf without having to do holes into them like I have seen! I kinda dislike to do holes into things and change them from how they was haha so this is a nice tips
Aw thanks so much for sharing your positive feedback! I'm really glad you found my video helpful and that you'll be able to apply it to your own collection soon 😊 Thanks for watching! I appreciate your support 🙏
Hey great video. I picked up one of these light kits today but I’m a bit confused. In which order did you use the connectors? There’s 1 3.9in, 2 39in and 1 16.5 in Y Connector.
Ahhh yeah adding a diffuser on or in front of the LEDs can definitely help improve the aesthetic. I was thinking of doing that for mine but it turns out I rely on the brightness to illuminate my living room 😅 Thanks for watching & commenting!
Thanks! As for putting two 1/4 scale Neca figures on a single shelf, you may wanna double check how much they weigh. Each detolf glass shelf has a maximum limit of 12-13 lbs (5-6 kg). If you’re not sure then it’s better to be safe than sorry 😬😅
Great ideal, wish I thought to do this a long time ago. One problem I did have was that the Frost King Weatherseal 3/16 was way to thin, was still big gaps. Would have to double it up to fill them in. I don't know if that has anything to do with how old my detolfs are tho (about 10 years old) and newer ones the gap is smaller. Going to get some of the 5/16 and I think that will work.
Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t realize the gap between the glass door & side panels can vary but I guess that makes sense when it comes to a cabinet/product that’s mass produced. Yeah hopefully a larger set of weather strips helps fill the gap for ya. Either way I’m glad you found this video helpful ☺️ Thanks for watching!
This is amazing, thank you for this informative video. I have however a question, don’t figures need to breath ? I mean, if we close the detolfs just like how you showed in the video, will the figure still be able to breath ? I’m talking for example about figures made with pleather, a lot of people tell me that it’s bad to keep these figures in boxes and to not let them breath. That’s why I was thinking if it could be a problem to have a figure totally sealed from dust. Do you think that one could have problems even with this way ? Thank you really much ! Amazing video.
Aw thanks so much for watching and for asking a thorough question! It’s a valid concern - as it happens the detolf doesn’t become air tight when using the dust-proof weather strips since there’s a small hole in the wooden roof on top, and also a slight gap at the sides of the door. Using the weather strips helps keep dust and pet hair (larger particles) out of the cabinet but the figures are still able to breathe just fine especially when compared to keeping them in the box long periods… doing that can sometimes damage the figure depending on the climate (heat/humidity) that they’re stored in since the plastic wrap & protective clamshell are directly touching the figure (like meat in a sandwich) so moisture from the air (if humid) can ruin a figure’s pleather in that sense. Hope that helps, and thanks again for watching / commenting! 😊
@@PosingwithPeter Thank you so much really, I was so worried about this, now I can start thinking how to organize my collection in the next future thanks to your infos ! Really useful and informative, I’ll follow your channel, take care man and thank you !
Thank for the tutorial! It helped alot! So one of my LED light outlets got slightly torn & now doesn’t work. Should I just buy an entire LED pack again or do they have replacement parts for the LED strips?
Damn that’s a bummer! I suppose you can try reaching out to the manufacturer to see if they offer replacement parts since I think they have a 2 year warranty. But if you’re looking for a more immediate-fix, then buying a whole new pack isn’t such a bad idea especially if they’re still available in your area - it doesn’t hurt to have a spare set of LEDs readily available in case any of your current ones begin to turn yellow. And thanks for watching! I’m glad the tutorial helped ☺️
Oh haha that’s funny - as it happens I’ve moved to a new place with different carpet 😂 But thanks so much for watching & subbing! I appreciate your support and I hope you enjoy your detolf!
Which gundam is the one you have on top? Nice video btw! I’ll be saving it for when I can afford more figures and all the display, just got the hot toys mark 5 reissue
I believe the Gundam is a Bandai Perfect Grade 1/60 Strike Freedom. And congrats on your Mark 5 reissue! Quite the beautiful armor & color palette 🤩 Thanks for watching! 🙏
Thanks for the video! I see in 6:09 you no longer have switches for each set of led lights, did you wired those power cords into one for those 5 cabins?
Ohh nah, for the 5 cabinets I just routed the LEDs in reverse so that the power cables/switches all run along on top instead. I have a power-strip surge protector sitting on the top left corner of my 5 cabinets that's kinda hidden behind the statues & figures on top, and all the lighting is connected to that so the cabinets have a more seamless aesthetic. And thanks for watching! 😊
Hey Peter, I can't seem to find those LED light strips anymore....seems like HD has no more in stock even for delivery. Any recommendations on another option with same features? Thanks!! As always love your videos
Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. I wondered why Home Depot significantly dropped the price from $35 to $23 within the past 6 months, I suppose they're being phased out. My apologies as I don't have an immediate alternate solution... I know that many collectors like using "IKEA DIODER" lights but those were a bit too warm/yellow for my liking. Have you tried searching Amazon for 4-pack LED strips? That would be my next guess. Best of luck, and thanks again for the heads up! I appreciate your support ☺️🙏
Not much at all, barely even noticeable but I suppose it depends on the thickness of the dust proof strip that you buy. I’ve seen some people use really thick foam strips to ensure all dust stays out, but then it creates a dark rectangular border all around the edges when the strip is too thick.
Hi great video which one out of the two weather strips would you say is better. Plus do you know the width of how wide the weather stripping is please just am in the UK and want to order some. Cheers
Hmm I can't say which weather strip is "better" since it depends on personal preference. Some people like the foam style, but I personally like the brush pile weather strip more (I think I mentioned that in the video). I'm not sure of the width for UK since I'm in the US which uses metric system for measurement, but I do have a link in the description box for some weather strips that have the exact measurements you can use to convert to imperial system. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Thanks for watching, cheers!
Hi no worries thanks alot for replying that's great I might try out the brush style would you be able to send me the links please for brush style and foam much appreciated 😀
Hey Peter, I would like to know which weather seal do you prefer? The brush style one or rubber foam one? And do you think installing both would make a better weather - proof detolf? I really appreciate your work in this clip, very easy and clear instructions. Thanks
Hey there! I prefer the brush-style since it’s more rigid/sturdy and tends to keep more dust out during my years of use, plus it’s easier to align when installing on the long side panels compared to the soft foam. And thanks for watching & sharing your positive feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found the tips helpful 😊
Hmm I think that depends on how much of the weather seal is included in the package - sometimes they come in rolls of 15 ft, sometimes more or less. To be certain I’d recommend measuring the total length of all 4 sides for 1 detolf, then multiply by 2 since you have 2 detolfs. Once you’ve got the exact measurement in length for both detolfs, you can then determine how many packages you’ll need 👍
My pleasure! And yeah many collectors have been using wire rope clips for years and haven’t had any issues with the shelves giving out - just gotta make sure they’re securely tightened to support the weight of the figures. It’s worth mentioning that there are longer plastic shelf clips on eBay - they’re more supportive than wire rope clips but not as subtle since they’re larger. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Do you think 16ft of pile is enough for one Detolf? Also the led lights are out of stock at all the home depots near me and I was wondering if there were any other options that you would recommend?
Yeah 16ft if pile is enough. I think the ones I got were 17ft and I had plenty to spare. Indeed I've been told the Home Depot lights are no longer available albeit in stores or online, perhaps they're discontinued. I'm actually gonna try a set of LEUMAS lights myself in the coming weeks. Seems to have much easier wiring and more streamlined LEDs. Https://leumaslighting.com Aside from that, another brand is CEFRANK LEDs which can be bought from Amazon. Hope that helps!
Hmm I just double checked the link and it seems to be the right measurement as mine 3/16th. I did notice that the Amazon product has 2 options for thickness: 11/32 vs 3/16. Do you still have the packaging? I wonder if Amazon accidentally sent you the smaller one, cause this video has been hosted on a few TH-cam channels since 2019 and you're the first person to suggest that it was the wrong size. Also it's worth mentioning that there's still gonna be a very tiny gap between the brush and glass door depending on a couple factors like how far back you've placed the stripping along the side panel, or if the door is aligned at the hinge that holds the door in place. Also a small gap is necessary for the door to have enough clearance to swing outwards. If it's any consolation, I hope you're able to return/exchange it for a refund or Amazon credit -- their customer service is usually pretty good. Thanks for your feedback though. I've updated the link to another similar product that could work better (same 3/16th brush size but more positive reviews it seems): www.amazon.com/Weather-Stripping-Sliding-Windows-Soundproofing/dp/B07S8TDRRG/ref=pd_aw_sbs_3/135-9850849-5987151?pd_rd_w=3ZFKh&pf_rd_p=68cf0f00-016e-4abd-bb4a-bbfcfdcf9985&pf_rd_r=H7FPJRDB342WSB1WV6VF&pd_rd_r=4362336b-e26f-4bd3-bfaf-a829dcbc61ea&pd_rd_wg=EzcKr&pd_rd_i=B07S8TDRRG&psc=1 Hope that helps, and best of luck getting it resolved 🤞👍
@@PosingwithPeter I bought the 11/32 x 3/16 inch. It may not be too short but there are small gaps on each side and I wasn't sure if it was thick enough or not cause I know if it's too short then it defeats the purpose of adding it. I don't have any experience using this so I don't know 100% but just by looking at it the gaps bother me but maybe I'm over thinking it Haha
I must have missed it but which of the weatherstrip did you use ? One more thing. I just put my first one together yesterday. Seems like it's extra hard to get all of the dust off the glass with paper towels and Windex. Is there something else you use ? Thanks
In the video I used both weather strips (foam on one defolf, brush pile on the other defolf). But in general I prefer using the brush style weather strips. In terms of getting dust off, it may depend on the paper towel that you're using. I use Windex and Bounty paper towels to clean the exteriors every few months. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching / commenting!
Would you recommend putting anything on the rope clips once you put the glass shelf back? Apologies if this seems dumb, but I’m worried the clips will scratch the glass
No need to apologize, that's a valid concern. Absolutely if you're worried about scratching the glass then a bit of foam or even plastic food wrap could probably help pad that out, any thin material that can sit flush between the glass and rope clips might help prevent scratches I suppose.
Hey Peter, did you have any issues during the build with getting the doors to align properly? I've built two, both the same issue. The door will not hit the magnet at the top but sits flush at the bottom.
Hmm that's odd that both detolfs you own are experiencing the same issue. I personally didn't encounter this and I have 7 detolfs... I suppose you could try readjusting / realigning the glass door by loosening the screws at the top-corner hinge and slide the glass door over a little closer to the top magnet. Hope that helps!
@@PosingwithPeter ya know I've adjusted every screw on it but haven't messed with the attachment screws holding the door on. I'll try that. The top piece of wood when torqued counterclockwise the glass door snaps shut into the top magnet, but when let go it pops back off the magnet. Obv I'm doing something wrong and no one else has done this 😆
Hey again ☺️ This video is quite old, I think it was filmed in early 2019 so I did rely on display bases back then. These days I try to avoid using them as much as possible. I don't use blue-tack either, just try to balance them naturally.
Has these strips been working for you with the dust? Just got myself a detolf and see all different kinds of dimensions of the foam weather seals just don’t know which one to go with.
Yeah I’d say they work really well - I made this video back in 2019 and have been using the same weather strips ever since. Some dust manages to seep through after several months but it’s so minor that the figures don’t require any cleaning or maintenance. The size that I use is 11/32 by 3/16. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
I got a couple of detolf shelves and applied weather strips to them a couple months ago and for some reason the top part of my door won’t close. At first it didn’t bother me, but whenever I open the case it rattles a bit. Any tips to get them completely closed.
Hmm that is odd - was the top part of the door having issues closing before adding the weather strips? I wonder if the top strip could be misaligned - perhaps readjusting it to sit further back could help (hard to say without seeing it for myself). Also if the shelves are rattling upon opening the door, inspect each glass shelf to see if they’re too sitting close to the large side panels. My detolfs also rattled whenever opening/closing the door until I simply realigned each shelf to have proper spacing on all sides away from the sides and back panels. Hope that helps!
Hi Jeffrey ☺️ I don't personally own Robocop with the chair but I have seen photos where it fits perfectly fine in a detolf cube without needing to adjust the height of the shelf. Heads up though, keeping him in the chair can sometimes scratch the chair (or behind his legs), and his knees / elbows have black rubber covers that can possibly tear or become damaged if left bent in the sitting position for too long. I think it's fine to use the chair short-term but I personally wouldn't leave him in the chair for more than a few days (just being safe).
Hey I actually just went to the hardware store today and brought one of the wire rope clips with me to compare, I believe the correct size is 1/4 inch 👍
Hi! Which one is a better weather seal the foam or the brush? I tried to install the foam but it still left some little gaps. Im just wondering is yours like that too?
I prefer the brush style since it's overall easier to install and it's also more forgiving when the door swings open -- another viewer was just mentioning in a separate comment here that his foam brush strip keeps peeling off when the door opens. In regards to his (and similarly your) situation of having gaps between the door, I'd recommend realigning the glass door by loosening the screws on the metal hinge that keep the door in place, then adjust the door by sliding it over left/right so it's centered enough to not leave any gaps between the foam. However if that doesn't work / if there are gaps on all sides, then ya might need thicker measurement of foam (is it possible that they were applied to the panels too far back away from the door?)
@@PosingwithPeter i appreciate it man. I put them right beside the magnets as you mentioned on the video. But yeah they are too far back from the door. Gonna try to put it closer to the door. Im just afraid the door wont close. Thank you for the response
Hi Peter, may i know how heavy is your 1/6 Thanos? I had added wire rope clip on my Detolf shelf, i wonder can the shelf hold up the figure around 5.3 pound
Hi Calvin ☺️ As it turns out I don't know how much Thanos weighs, but I can tell you based on a quick google search that Detolf glass shelves can withstand around 12-13 pounds (or around 6 kg). I've kept multiple die-cast figures on the same shelf for years with no issues, and I've even had Thanos fighting Mk50 on the same glass shelf long-term with no problems. However I have seen some collectors cram like 8-10 figures in a shelf which makes me nervous... definitely wouldn't recommend that lol 😅 Hope that helps, and thanks for watching & commenting!
Hey I'm not sure if you've tried it before but have you used the commercial electric version rgbw version of those lights for your detolf? And do you know a way to extend them to the very top part of the shelf?
Doh! As it turns out I have not used the RGB version of these lights, and I'm not sure what you mean by extending them to the top. The included cables are long enough to connect each shelf, but I used a separate set of LEDs to light up the topside of my detolfs if that's what you're referring to.
@@PosingwithPeter They give you 2 long cables and 1 short cable but the problem is that only 3 of the led lights can connect for the detolf. The 4th light can't connect because the small cable is useless pretty much
What the hell that's a terrible design choice! Have you tried contacting Commercial Electric? I wonder if the longer RGB cables are sold separately albeit on Home Depot or other sites... still pretty crappy that you'd even be in that position, they should've included equal length cables 🤦♂️
I’ve had these lights on my detolfs for probably close to 2 years now. When I got them, they seemed like a brighter white but not so cool that they look blue-ish like some do (I’d call it daylight white). After a couple years of running them 6-8 hours a day about 5 days a week, the lighting seems almost yellow/warm now. I’m adding more detolfs to my collection but am debating about switching the lighting to something else. Have yours yellowed at all?
Ahh yeah some (but not all) of mine turned a bit yellow so I had to buy a couple new packs. Upon noticing the slight change in color, I did some research and learned that LEDs in general can lose their luminosity and color-grade from 2 main things: overheating and long-term usage (often a combination of both). Although LEDs are far more energy efficient and operate at a safer temperature compared to halogen, LEDs still emit (and sometimes trap) heat within their plastic casing which can ultimately speed up the process of their color degradation -- doesn't matter it's soft & pliable like the Home Depot strips or hard rigid plastic like IKEA Dioders... if it's housed in some kind of protective casing then it's possible it could turn more yellow overtime. Generally the LEDs that are least likely to turn yellow are the long rolls / spools of LEDs that don't have any sort of protective casing, but the downside to those is less protection and they require manual cutting & wiring of each strip. The LEDs from Home Depot and IKEA are ideal for newcomers to the hobby which is what this video was mostly targeted at since it's a pretty straight forward setup, no wire cutting or soldering needed. However at this point, more seasoned collectors like you and I might need to switch to something a little more customized 😅 What's weird is that not all of mine turned yellow, only a few so it's also possible there could've been a manufacturing defect in some of the strips that were sold during a certain period. Your guess is as good as mine. Either way lemme know what you decide to do, albeit buy more sets like I did or switch to a new method. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☺️
@@PosingwithPeter thanks for the detailed reply! So, I’ve done more research into this and there’s a company called Luke Light that makes custom lightstrips for detolfs. I’ve contacted them and they have informed me that their lightstrips have no protective rubber/plastic barrier over the LEDs, so they should not have the same issue of turning yellow over time. Also seems like a better product anyway, since they have some kind of transparent wire designed to blend into the detolf better. Price seems about the same as Home Depot and other alternatives, so I think I may give that a try. www.thelukelight.com
@@stillcd Nice! Thanks for following up with your next steps and possible solution. I took a peek at their website/products -- I like how their LED strips are USB-powered... it allows for alternate power options rather than making it a proprietary power adapter. I did however notice the disclaimer they wrote about color variation occurring in different batches of LEDs across the entire LED market (hence they encourage buying an entire collection's worth of LEDs rather than just 1 set in order to be similarly matched in color). Hopefully this works out for ya, thanks again for sharing your research!
Hmm are you referring to the detolf cabinets being straight? If so, it helps to have carpet since they kinda sink into formation. Having hard-surface floors can be less forgiving.
I prefer the brush weather strip since the adhesive-side is more firm/rigid, it was very easy to install and the brush allows the glass door to open easier. Meanwhile the foam was too flimsy while applying to the glass so it was difficult lining it up to be straight.
Is it normal to have a gap in between the side where the door opens with hinges ? I try to apply the weather strip to for a tight seal but then the door won’t open right so I need to leave a gap which might let dust go through or is the gap so tiny I shouldn’t worry about it?
Hmm, mine don't really have a gap on the hinge-side. If the door is struggling to open on that side, perhaps loosening the hinge screws temporarily to slide the door further out ever-so-slightly might help give it the clearance it needs to open properly without leaving a large gap. If there's a very thin gap then I wouldn't worry too much. This method isn't exactly 100% dust proof anyways, it just helps keep the majority of dust and particulates out. Hope that helps!
@@PosingwithPeter could you provide me with the exact measurements you used for the right side where the hinge is? Like how far the foam is from the edge of the glass. I will probably take it off and do 1/4 inch maybe that would help.
@@jetx2599 For me, the weather strips on the hinge-side are lined up to the very edge of the glass. In regards to the small gap that's between the side glass panel and the glass door, it's just less than 1/4 inch. I'd post pics here if TH-cam allowed it 😅 If you message me on Instagram @posingwithpeter16 I can send you close-up pics if that'll help.
@@PosingwithPeter okay thanks for the help! I think I figured out the proper length then. I am just a perfectionist lol, and I hate dusting my figures often so I’m trying to mitigate as much dust as often. Having figures is fun, dusting not so much lmao
I'm not sure about Amazon Alexa but my lights are currently hooked to a surge protector that's plugged into a WeMo smart plug which is compatible with Google Hub -- so they all turn on at the same time by voice command.
Thanks! And there are ways to combine 2 detolfs together to be stacked side-by-side so they can form a wider double-detolf. You gotta disassemble the whole cabinet, then buzz-saw the wood panels for top and bottom on 2 detolfs so they can be evenly bolted together without having a large gap running down the middle. I think there are posts on Reddit for that kind of custom work.
I don’t understand how you are supposed to get the lights all the way to the top with only 2 of the extenders they include. I went and bought the same light and now I’m stuck.
Hmm if you bought the exact same product from Home Depot then you should have the correct amount of cables/splitters included. At 1:38 you can see what’s included such as a power adapter with switch + 3 separate cable connectors (one of them splits into 2). If you’re linking them from the bottom like I did, then it should look something like this: Wall Outlet > Power Adapter with switch > Short cable extender > LED STRIP 1 > Long Connector > LED STRIP 2 > Long Connector that splits > LED STRIP 3 > Long Connector > LED 4 I hope that helps!
Apologies for the delayed reply! I suppose it depends on how you plan on lining your display with LEDs. Most people tend to only light up each shelf, and each shelf is about 15 inches across so I guess 4-5 feet is more than enough. But I’ve also seen some people line their detolfs vertically with LED strips which I wouldn’t know how much you’d need.
I prefer the pile, I think I mentioned it in the video 😅 The pile is easier to install and it doesn't conflict with the glass door as much whenever it's opened/closed.
@@stompingonhoez9625 Ah thanks for clarifying. The dust proof strips that I bought came in 17 ft long rolls (5.2 meters) - it’s been a long time since I made this video so I don’t remember exactly how much but I think you need around 11 feet of dust proof strips (3.5 meters) per detolf. Hope that helps!
I got the same foam weatherseal thingy from a home depot for like $3 bucks, what im having a hard time with is place them where you begin to open the door from. Man Idk how you did it without a bit of struggle.
Hmm did you get the brush style weather strip or foam? And are you struggling with installing the weather strip on the surface of the top wooden roof, or on the side vertical glass panel?
@@PosingwithPeter my door pulls out left to right, opposite of yours. I don't if it worth the hassle to take it down temporarily. What im trying to say is the right side. It a very tight spot to fit the foam because of the door and, the shelf racks? I don't know if that the right word but that how i would describe it. The grey hooks that hold the glass panels for whatever to display.
Ohh ok I think I understand - it sounds like you’re having trouble fitting the foam strip on the right side of your glass door since the gap between the door and gray metal frame is too small. I’m just curious, are you trying to install the foam strip without removing the glass door? If so, I’d highly recommend removing the glass door temporarily since it’s much easier to apply the foam weather strip. Also you’ll be able to realign the glass door afterwards by making small adjustments left or right to allow for proper clearance so the door can swing open/close easily once it’s adjusted.
@@PosingwithPeter thanks for the reply, I just finished doing everything that you said here, I’m new to collecting, only just started this year😁👌🏽 so yeah thanks very much! And I love your pics as always💯
Nah it's held up just fine, hasn't been re-adjusted since filming this back in early 2019. I've showcased multiple figures on it throughout my videos like IW Thanos fighting Mk50 and Nebula, Armored Thanos fighting Cap or dragging Thor etc. There are other types of shelf clips on eBay/Amazon that offer more support -- I just went with these cause they're easy and affordable to get at any local hardware store.
How about for the dust proofing behind the door? I haven’t placed one there because it gets in the way of it when closing and opening but I have no idea how to make it work
Hmm I'm not sure if I understand your inquiry -- in the video, the dust-proofing weather strips are adhered behind the door inside the cabinet so the door can still swing open. Are you trying to install a second layer of dust-proof weather-strips on the outer side of the cabinet? If so, I suppose you could try adhering it to thin-edges of the glass door itself on top/side/bottom so that the weather strips swing open along with the door.
@@PosingwithPeter behind the hinge of the door is where I am referring to. I have the foam weather strip on all sides of the case except behind the door because I could put one there as well but when I open it basically peels it off due to it being too thick and I’m trying to find a way to get it in without having to cut it through the middle. I tried my best to explain sorry if it’s still confusing
Ohhh gotcha, now I understand -- thanks for elaborating. Yeah I might be able to provide some insight / tips. It's a bit difficult to explain since TH-cam doesn't have the ability to attach pictures... but it's possible that the door was assembled too close to the side panel so I'd recommend loosening both sets of screws at the hinge then realign the glass door to be closer to the magnetic lock side. Doing so might give ya enough clearance to swing the door open without having it peel off the weather strip behind it. However if this tactic makes it difficult to close on the other side, then ya might need to get thinner foam strips. It's one of the reasons I prefer the brush style strips, they're more forgiving when the glass door opens and closes on them. Hope that helps!
If you’re referring to the tiny batteries they are included with the figure, not very long (maybe an hour or so). The sabers in this video are custom wired to a power adapter so they’re much brighter and not battery operated. If you look up CCFL saber on TH-cam you’ll find various videos about how they’re made.
These things are great of which I have 4-5 of them, but they cannot fit the slightly larger figures/statues/busts. Wish they made these about 6 inches or a foot taller.
Yeah they’re definitely not made for taller / heavier items, but you could always reinforce the glass shelves by laying down steel bars or thick acrylic sheets under each shelf.
Yeah, I'd have preferred it if all the connectors were the same but I suppose it's nice for those who need a Y-splitter to have the option included. I just use the zip-ties to securely mount it to the metal frame and hide it as best as possible.
Hmm I can't really specify which shelf / level I used the Y-cable since that depends on whether the entire LED set is routed through the top or bottom, but here's a breakdown of how I connect them in order: Power adapter with on-off switch > short 3-inch connector > LED 1 > long connector > LED 2 > Y-splitter > LED 3 > long connector > LED 4 The Y-splitter can technically be used anywhere after LED 1, but that's just how I have mine hooked up. The zip-ties help keep all the connectors flush & hidden behind the detolf's metal frame for the most part. Hope that helps!
Aww man I’m sorry to hear that! Mine are 3/16” so I’m confused why they’d be too small. Since they’re from Amazon, is it possible for a return / exchange? I’ve removed the link from the description based on your feedback so that others don’t have the same experience - sorry again, I hope you get it resolved.
@@PosingwithPeter it’s all good, the glass wouldn’t sit on the clips but I turned them all straight inward towards back and front instead of at angle and the glass sits perfectly on the parts that nuts screw onto
Hmm at 3:02 video shows that I hid the main power cable underneath the detolf, then routed the whole chain of LEDs & wiring along the metal frame in a snake-like fashion. If you're using the exact same LED brand that I used then hopefully this map of the cables will help: Power adapter with on/off switch > short wire > LED-1 > long wire > LED-2 > long wire > LED 3 > long wire > LED-4 Whether you start from the top and work your way down, or start from the bottom and work your way up, the above configuration works both ways. I hope that helps clarify any confusion.
@@PosingwithPeter thanks for the reply. Yeah i got the same lights. I was a bit confused on the wires but I’ll try that order. Should I stick the lights where i want them before I wire them all up?
@@Justin-gc9eq I'd say sticking the lights on before/after wiring is a matter of preference. Personally I stuck the LEDs to the shelves as I wired them up along the way, but as always do what works best for you 😉
Tried the weather seals on my detolfs couple months back and it seems quite effective. There's a little bit of dust on the top shelves but still pretty good I guess. The only problem is that my detolfs were already fully installed when I thought of dustproofing them, so I couldn't apply the weather seals on the door hinge side. Tried to stick them in there somehow, but eventually settled with just 3 sides dustproofed. Any ideas on how to seal this side off with the door on?
Ahhh yeah, I made this video back in 2019 so the statement "I've never once had to dust off my figures" is a bit outdated & inaccurate these days 😅 Like you, a little dust has gotten in here and there, but fortunately I've only had to lightly clean the shelves while the figures themselves remain fairly clean. Regarding your detolf situation, the door can easily be removed if you have someone at home to assist -- just loosen both sets of screws on the metal hinges that hold the glass door in place while another person carefully holds the glass door to prevent it from sliding off or falling to the ground. Once those screws are loosened, you can slide the entire door out (be sure to catch the top metal hinge -- it'll simply fall once you slide the glass door out). Then you can apply your weather seal as needed before reinstalling the door 👍
@@PosingwithPeter Oh hey just saw the reply. Notification didn't come. Good to know that I can take the doors off without having to remove my figures. Will try it when I feel the need. Thanks for the help cheers
@@alexh7481 I've heard these are a pretty good alternative from some collectors on Facebook but I can't speak from personal experience: www.amazon.com/Efrank-Bar-Under-Kitchen-Cabinet-Energy/dp/B00XJKOCBG/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=cefrank+led&qid=1623433521&sr=8-4
Hahaha yeah I've seen some people cram like 6 to 8 figures into a single shelf then repeat that process for the entire cabinet when they're limited on living space... seeing that gives me anxiety and makes me concerned for the safety of those collectors & their figures. Fortunately I've put some figures away in their boxes to allow more breathing room and less congestion in my detolfs. Good lookin out though, and thanks for watching / commenting!
@@PosingwithPeter detolf is made out of tamperd glass you can see tampered glass explode out of nowhere with no weight or heat added to the glass there a bunch of TH-cam videos
Yeah it's possible but probably not safe. Applying the LEDs to the underside of each shelf requires some pressure in addition to properly routing the cables/wiring around the metal frame... trying to do all that without removing the shelves will be quite challenging but best of luck if you try it! 🤞
The first part alone is such a help! Thank you for this very informative video!

Indeed I remember watching some lengthy detolf videos when I first began my journey and I wanted to put something out there that was a bit more digestible, so I really appreciate your positive feedback 😊
And for sure, no need to rush into buying the necessary components for a detolf if all you currently have are preorders. Heads up, the home depot lights that I used in this video are no longer available. I currently have a new set of LEUMAS Lights arriving in the coming weeks so I may put out an updated video showcasing those LEDs next month. Stay tuned, and thanks again for watching & commenting!

That’s awesome! I’m really glad you found my video helpful 😁🙌 Thanks so much for watching and sharing your positive feedback 😊🙏
as a first time detolf user as I started collecting azur lane/fgo figures.
Absolutely great video. I'm just now getting into Transformers collecting and was researching how to set a detolf up. Thanks!

Peter, I would LOVE to see how you did the wiring for your detolfs, and are those custom light sabers!?
this would be really cool to see the wiring for the ccfl sabers and lighting
They are indeed CCFL lightsabers! I just route the wiring around/behind the figure (sometimes on the ground of the shelf) then zip-tie it vertically along the metal frame of the detolf and out the topside of the glass door where a surge protector sits on top of the cabinets ☺️

Good video man! I was wondering if I were to remove a shelf to put two 1/4 Neco figures on one shelf would it hold? Thanks dude!
Thanks! As for putting two 1/4 scale Neca figures on a single shelf, you may wanna double check how much they weigh. Each detolf glass shelf has a maximum limit of 12-13 lbs (5-6 kg). If you’re not sure then it’s better to be safe than sorry 😬😅
@@PosingwithPeter Haha yeah okay, I figured as such. I don't want a disaster that's for sure 😂
Hey man, what was the exact measurements that worked for you? Is 1/2In x 1/4In perfect for the newly versions of the Detolfs?

Hi, about the dustproofing, how much is the adhesive can been seen from the outside (on the lateral panel)? Thanks
Just amazing ideas!! make more videos like this!
Thanks for watching & commenting!
Great video! Question, I have 2 detolfs, how many of those rubber foam weather seals do I need? Would 1 package be sufficient? Cheers.
@@PosingwithPeter Good call, thanks boss!

Thanks for the video! Are those wire rope clips strong enough to hold up the shelf? Thanks

Aside from that, another brand is CEFRANK LEDs which can be bought from Amazon. Hope that helps!
Great tutorial, thanks
My pleasure -- thanks for watching!
Are you sure the weather striping brush link from Amazon is big enough? I just installed them and it doesn't look thick enough to cover the gaps.

@@PosingwithPeter ah okay, thank you for the info! Just gotta say, love this vid and the rest of your stuff
Obv I'm doing something wrong and no one else has done this 😆
Thanks for these in-depth tutorials! Do you always use the display bases? Any experience with "blue-tack?"
Hey again ☺️ This video is quite old, I think it was filmed in early 2019 so I did rely on display bases back then. These days I try to avoid using them as much as possible. I don't use blue-tack either, just try to balance them naturally.
Do they sell strips seperate and can they connect together
Can the detolf cabinet handle 1/4 figures?
Has these strips been working for you with the dust? Just got myself a detolf and see all different kinds of dimensions of the foam weather seals just don’t know which one to go with.
Yeah I’d say they work really well - I made this video back in 2019 and have been using the same weather strips ever since. Some dust manages to seep through after several months but it’s so minor that the figures don’t require any cleaning or maintenance. The size that I use is 11/32 by 3/16. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for these tips.
My pleasure, glad I could help 😊 Thanks for watching & commenting!
Hi Peter, can you tell me if 1 detolf cubicle is large enough to fit the Robocop + Mechanical chair inside the same cube? Thanks!
Hi Jeffrey ☺️
I don't personally own Robocop with the chair but I have seen photos where it fits perfectly fine in a detolf cube without needing to adjust the height of the shelf.
@@PosingwithPeter Awesome, thanks for the info!
Hello amazing collection!
One question what size are those wire rope clips?
Thanks! As for the rope clip I think they were 3/16 inch… it’s been a few years so I’m not entirely sure at this point 😅
Thank you for the response
amazing thanks so much!!!

However I have seen some collectors cram like 8-10 figures in a shelf which makes me nervous... definitely wouldn't recommend that lol 😅
Hope that helps, and thanks for watching & commenting!
Thank you so much!
@@PosingwithPeter For the included cables the rgb set they give you are different from the soft light versions
Ohhh gotcha, didn't know that so thanks for clarifying. Are they shorter?? I sure hope not... that'd be an odd choice in manufacturing if so 😅
@@PosingwithPeter They give you 2 long cables and 1 short cable but the problem is that only 3 of the led lights can connect for the detolf.
However at this point, more seasoned collectors like you and I might need to switch to something a little more customized 😅
What's weird is that not all of mine turned yellow, only a few so it's also possible there could've been a manufacturing defect in some of the strips that were sold during a certain period.

Hello sir i have question about light saber why your light saber is so bright, you custom it?
They are custom lightsabers that plug into power outlet but not made by me -- look up "CCFL Lightsaber" on TH-cam and you'll see lots of great videos!
Any recommendations for led strips that have different colors?
My apologies but I’ve only used white LEDs so I’m afraid I wouldn’t be the best source to make any recommendations for colored LEDs 🙏🙇♂️
How did you get them so straight. I have four and they don’t line up regardless of what I do.
Hmm are you referring to the detolf cabinets being straight? If so, it helps to have carpet since they kinda sink into formation. Having hard-surface floors can be less forgiving.
What did you find better the foam or weather strip?
I prefer the brush weather strip since the adhesive-side is more firm/rigid, it was very easy to install and the brush allows the glass door to open easier. Meanwhile the foam was too flimsy while applying to the glass so it was difficult lining it up to be straight.
@@PosingwithPeter thank u friend
I'd post pics here if TH-cam allowed it 😅
If you message me on Instagram @posingwithpeter16 I can send you close-up pics if that'll help.
@@PosingwithPeter okay thanks for the help! I think I figured out the proper length then. I am just a perfectionist lol, and I hate dusting my figures often so I’m trying to mitigate as much dust as often. Having figures is fun, dusting not so much lmao
Can use led strip lights with Amazon Alexa or google using a smart plug to turn it on and off with one switch?
I'm not sure about Amazon Alexa but my lights are currently hooked to a surge protector that's plugged into a WeMo smart plug which is compatible with Google Hub -- so they all turn on at the same time by voice command.
Just wondering, do you still use those lights? Or did you switch to a new brand?
I still use them!
Perfect!
Thanks!
GREAT VIDEO BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS TO ADJUST THE WIDTH OF IT ?
If you’re linking them from the bottom like I did, then it should look something like this:
Wall Outlet > Power Adapter with switch > Short cable extender > LED STRIP 1 > Long Connector > LED STRIP 2 > Long Connector that splits > LED STRIP 3 > Long Connector > LED 4
I hope that helps!
How many feet of LED lights would be needed to do a single detolf?
Apologies for the delayed reply!
I suppose it depends on how you plan on lining your display with LEDs. Most people tend to only light up each shelf, and each shelf is about 15 inches across so I guess 4-5 feet is more than enough. But I’ve also seen some people line their detolfs vertically with LED strips which I wouldn’t know how much you’d need.
Do you prefer the pile or the foam for dust proof?
I prefer the pile, I think I mentioned it in the video 😅
The pile is easier to install and it doesn't conflict with the glass door as much whenever it's opened/closed.
How much did you use for one shelf ?btw the collection is awesome!
Thanks for watching!
I’m not sure I understand your question - How much _____ did I use for one shelf? 😅
@@PosingwithPeter sorry, how many of those dust proof tape did you use on one shelf
Are those lights double sided taped? Or just hanging by that connector?😁
The LED strips are equipped with adhesive strips right out of the box 👍

The shelf that you adjusted how has it been doing? Any problems
@@PosingwithPeter yeah thinking about going to the hardware store cause it would be easy
@@PosingwithPeter I haven’t thought of that yet I’ll try it out thanks!
just wondering , whats your heaviest figure and does the detolf holds it ?
I think the heaviest figure I have is War Machine Mk4. Each detolf shelf can hold about 13 lbs or 6 kg.

How long do the batteries last in the lightsabers
If you’re referring to the tiny batteries they are included with the figure, not very long (maybe an hour or so).
The sabers in this video are custom wired to a power adapter so they’re much brighter and not battery operated. If you look up CCFL saber on TH-cam you’ll find various videos about how they’re made.
@@PosingwithPeter I love you for that

Hmm not sure what you’re asking, would ya mind specifying four… ?
what line / manufacturer are these marvel figures?
Hot Toys ☺️
These things are great of which I have 4-5 of them, but they cannot fit the slightly larger figures/statues/busts. Wish they made these about 6 inches or a foot taller.
Yeah they’re definitely not made for taller / heavier items, but you could always reinforce the glass shelves by laying down steel bars or thick acrylic sheets under each shelf.
@@PosingwithPeter I was referring to the fact of taller items not heavier items
Did your lights come with a y cable?
Yeah, I'd have preferred it if all the connectors were the same but I suppose it's nice for those who need a Y-splitter to have the option included. I just use the zip-ties to securely mount it to the metal frame and hide it as best as possible.
@@PosingwithPeter which level did you put the y connector on?
Hmm I can't really specify which shelf / level I used the Y-cable since that depends on whether the entire LED set is routed through the top or bottom, but here's a breakdown of how I connect them in order:
Power adapter with on-off switch > short 3-inch connector > LED 1 > long connector > LED 2 > Y-splitter > LED 3 > long connector > LED 4
The Y-splitter can technically be used anywhere after LED 1, but that's just how I have mine hooked up. The zip-ties help keep all the connectors flush & hidden behind the detolf's metal frame for the most part.
Hope that helps!
Just ordered the clips you said to order and that are in description and they are way too small

Im confused which wires to connect to make the lights all fit at the top and which way you routed them. You skipped the most important part
Hmm at 3:02 video shows that I hid the main power cable underneath the detolf, then routed the whole chain of LEDs & wiring along the metal frame in a snake-like fashion.
If you're using the exact same LED brand that I used then hopefully this map of the cables will help:
Power adapter with on/off switch > short wire > LED-1 > long wire > LED-2 > long wire > LED 3 > long wire > LED-4
Whether you start from the top and work your way down, or start from the bottom and work your way up, the above configuration works both ways.
