  • How much of a difference does the copper heatsink make vs the standard aluminum one? What if you want to use the copper with your 35W G3? Is it any better?

I wonder if the copper cooling would have improved more if thermal paste was cleaned up and reapplied.

@@Swi_10081 funny you should say that. I'm thinking of going back and reapplying some paste.

You should always clean and reapply thermal paste between testing. Mating 2 sides with paste already applied can trap air bubbles, skewing your test results.

@@DrivingVertigo I may go back and fix the paste on my current unit.

I suggest you clean the fan! It's really easy.
I can see the dust and dirt buildup from the video.
I watch a lot of your videos, btw. And I did notice
after reminding you the the arrows line the cpu up that
you installed it the correct way.
Take care. Like the videos, btw.

@@handmedowntech Good move. I keep all my fans and heatsinks spotless. Inside and out.

I did the same experiment with a g4 i7-8700t and had similar results. There was a 3-4 degree difference between the heatsinks, which was really disappointing. I've also enlarged the intake vents at the front cover and I didn't notice a difference. I like to add Tessa tape between the fan and the heatsink, between the heatsink and the case, and over the #2 screw void. I don't know if really makes a noticeable difference, but it creates a bit of duct like effect, lessening the amount of hot air that goes back into the system.

All these different tapes out there. Duct, kapton, electrical, and now tesa, I'll have to check that out

i do like your videos and i picked up a Lenovo m720q for £110 on Facebook and have restored it using the Lenovo recovery image for testing went well even did the windows 11 update this one is going to be imaged with my works image for my works stuff but this pc works so well I'm going back to the same guy to buy another one for my main pc the hp computers I have will be donated to needy kids for school work i have 3 of them i will also say the Lenovo will take an NVidia t100 card

I sort of did a similar transition. I got an EliteDesk for doing VMs and cluster stuff and finally decided to use one for my personal stuff and video editing. These are made so well that it's tough to use basic consumer computers.

Liked your test, I have one small question, is there a yellow light on the motherboard when you plug the power supply? I'm not sure if it's a normal thing or there's something wrong with my unit.

    • @handmedowntech
      @handmedowntech  หลายเดือนก่อน

I checked two G3s - when I attach the power a tiny light flashes momentarily - it is sitting next to a number "2" and near a small black chip

@handmedowntech does that light stay on or goes away? My motherboard yellow light stays there, didn't notice until I removed the caddy to use an nvme and run the pc without the top lid.

@handmedowntech by the way I have a g4 with a ryzen 3 2200ge, I did a case swap to get better ventilation, with some minor sacrifices of course since it's not a full motherboard to add an external power button.
