@@tonyw6451 it's true i didn't get further than 6k proRes in the specs , don't know the capacities. Although it's hard to believe you can't have great footage out of it from what I've seen around. It probably has its place in packed action sequences something like that. , Not sure about the new flex tho ... Don't really understand the point losing the fourth axe stab ...

My Ronin 4D has been a game changer for me - I am by no means a pro! But I have learnt so much using this camera. It really is an awesome bit of kit. 😀

It good, but for me the smaller and lighter the whole package the better. FX3 and 24mm GM is all I need 😅 Great video man
Mostly because $6800 for the average person is a pretty high bar for entry and it’s the only camera in the ecosystem. If DJI makes a sub-$3000 model and keeps expanding, I’m sure you’d see people moving in that direction.
Buy a Red Camera, a few lenses, a heavy duty gimbal, an Easyrig, and a wireless follow focus system and you are going to be spending more than 10k. This isn't really at the price point of people who are shooting with an Iphone mounted on a lightweight gimbal.
I think it's really interesting how skeptical people are about it, and that there is no use case for it as I read through the comments.
Maybe i am a simpleton as one person put it, but stabilization in a rapidly changing run and gun environment, like i find myself in, almost every shoot, something like this "seems" like a dream.
Heavy equipment, everything and everyone is moving, chaos, fast paced, and I'm literally running around capturing the moment. I walk into a lot of situations where I don't know what to expect, and even when they are "staged" i have very little time and limited crew to get the shot. Which leads to some shaky footages sometimes.
But having active track, and the crazy gimbal allowing me to move dynamically seems like such a win when producing videos for my clients.
I mean, I don't shoot moves for Netflix, I shoot for corporate clients who do large dynamic projects, so I'm not sure not using a cinema lens is a deal breaker. Maybe I just don't have the conneseurs eye.
But I think this kinda goes back to, most people think iPhone footage looks amazing. So maybe the question is, do we use certain equipment and create certain looks that are just meant to impress other filmmakers, not really aimed at what matters to clients and the general public, which are much more swept up in emotion and story.
I would love to have this camera in my arsenal.
Then again, i also hate fighting gimbals, and end up shooting handheld a lot. (maybe ore than i should) lol
That camera is amazing, expensive but amazing
On the side of the camera you can physically switch the gimbal off. Then you can lock in each axis and use it as a standard (non-stable) camera. This is rather than overloading the gimbal motors and waiting for it to detect you still have each axis locked.

What is the low light performance compared to, say, the FX3?
I've shot with the original Ronin 4D, it does okay in lowlight but it (like most cameras) is garbage compared to 12,800 native ISO on the FX3.

For this price, you can get raw videos on an fx3 with a gimbal, which is almost kinda same, you will only missing the focus system, bbut with a good focus puller and some skill that too is pretty easy

8:01 I have the OG DJI Osmo with the Z axis. I used it for vlogging back in college. It's basically this but without the image quality and in a much smaller package. Imagine a gopro image quality but with the z axis stabilization. Super gimmicky set up but it'll make a cool shelf display piece one day and start a lot of conversations. It looks like a pistol almost and at night I felt uncomfortable using it in poorly lit areas due to its form factor.
The Ronin 4D has upwards of 15K worth of video assist features (integrated) not to mention a high res full frame sensor with swappable lenses. Professional productions need this, while your average person wouldn't know what to do with all of these features.

We use it on a series, im the asistent for it, we really love it, very fast when transitioning from the alexa minis to a steady gimbal car mount etc shot.
Can it shoot vertical ? Like the gimbal rotation of the Mavic Mini Pro 3
People don't want vertical film.. it's only like that because of subpar phone cameras.

I would have looked at getting one if the rolling shutter wasn’t so bad. I occasionally do VFX and camera tracking is harder with wobbly footage. Other than that I love the concept of this camera and even more so with the Flex attachment 👍😊
People getting so excited about 6k and lidar. But aren't paying attention to important things like you said. Why even make a "gimbal only cam" with rolling shutter?

I've used a 4d, it's a really cool system, but until DJI has a full line up of cameras it's really hard to buy in and be an early adopter. I buy cameras for a small production department and I've got to outfit seven shooters all of varying skill levels, I'd love it if my top shooters were flying Ronin 4d's, without a smaller/cheaper more traditional mirrorless style option to put in the hands of my lower skill set shooters it becomes a hard sell. Maybe if someone throws me money to make a movie outside of work. >_
It is a very interesting system especially the 4 axis stabe however I don't see the point of getting this camera apart and filming with that ghostbusters backpack on.. when you can just throw the FX3 on Ronin and the picture quality is barely distinguishable.. especially after youtube compresses it to bits..
It takes a lot of time to setup an FX3 on a Ronin, especially if you start to add wireless follow focus motors and a wireless video system.
The value in the 4D is that it reduces the setup time from an hour with a tradition setup, to a matter of minutes with everything being integrated. It's less about the image quality with the 4d and more about the seamless integration of all the professional video systems into one easy to use rig.
I will save up slowly to get this. I was worried about the lens situation but seems there is enough.

I was literally looking at if anyone has mentioned this. Dji thought they’d get away with it since the green light to use the technology in their drones but RED said drones only and threatened to pull the plug. That’s something Dji can’t risk. Very sad that RED is hoarding the rights for compressed Raw.

Really cool, perhaps even a game changer innovation but, to be honest, I haven’t seen a nice image or shot with it yet, in this review or any other !

I wouldn't say it's underrated, it's expensive and very niche. For 99% of creators a FX3 or C70 and a gimbal is a much smarter purchase. Still cool though!! Can't take that away from it!

I was looking at it more from a practicality stand point. The Ronin 4D locks you into an ecosystem with proprietary components that are expensive. Take their $800 1TB SSD for example. Canon and Sony ecosystems offer much more flexibility given similar budgets. If you have the need/want, by all means, I always see these promotion videos come out and within a week everyone is back to shooting on their more traditional camera systems. It's a cool product but let's not kid ourselves, it's niche.
The huge problem with this camera is that there is no 50-60 fps at 6k or 4k with a full sensor only 2.39:1
Or shoot in 2k, but now the standard is 4k and the inability to shoot at 60 frames is very sad

Underrated well let's see:
1. Cost. $6800 plus lenses.
2. Requires a backpack for itself, would not be good for if you need to carry other things for your day.
3. No mention of weather sealing or resistant. Here in New England we risk winter weather 8 months of the year. Other months get rainy.
Don't get me wrong, I would love this all in one, and not have all separate components. But cost and bulkiness is an issue, unless I am parked at camp.

the Red Komodo is 6K dollars (Body only), The Canon C70 is 5k+ dollars (body only) the Canon C500mk II is $16,000 (body only) and so on...... but there are more people, waaaaayyyy more people talking about those cameras on youtube than there are people talking about the Dji Ronin 4D.
So I disagree that price is the factor. Its just underrated. Many people have formed biases against the camera without even having an opportunity to test the camera. So many think pieces about why the camera is a gimmick or a specialty camera or a Bcam at best, etc.... But most of them talking haven't even tried using the cam.
This is not to say it has no flaws. Which camera doesn't? But is it as terrible as people say it is.. I don't think so.

Was it a creative choice to under expose a little bit your outdoor shots with this camera? Maybe it's just me but I felt like the images were a little under exposed? I don't know..
I've shot with the original Ronin 4D and like the BlackMagic cameras it's super easy to underexpose, you have to be extra careful and double check false color every time you change setups.

The reason people aren't talking about it is because it's designed & made in China, many people aren't mentally ready to accept the idea of China = highest quality

Everyone is okay with the current gimbals and their favourite brand of camera that works for them, who wants to be logging a placenta sack around makes no sense, buy a mono pod attach it to your gimbal same ish minus the umbilical cord, wifi connect your camera to your connect app(might not be super reliable but it cost nothing) ! Don’t get me wrong great innovation but not a practical one, in the economic disaster of world we live in today! Love DJi for their products Drones and gimbals! This is meh!
