The Carson show called Grodin to ask if he wanted to sign a contract to regularly appear as a guest on the show, according to Grodin on Conan O'Brien. Maybe he did, as he was on the show 36 times.
NBC ramped up the souvenirs after the launch of the current peacock logo which happened that summer 1986. When Tommy Walton was throwing hot dogs the band music drowned out him singing. He was as well known for his singing as well as slingin' dogs at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. I loved the show with Johnny Carson, but apparently, after further exposure to facts about his real personality off camera was one who was an alcoholic, often petty and vengeful, and mostly hated by his sons. Still, he will never be equaled as a late night talk show host.

He was also a flaming Liberal-politically. But you’d never know it. The point being, Carson was the consummate professional and had great respect for his audience, so he kept his personal baggage out of the on-air equation, or turned it into comedy gold (like his many marriages).
@@jeffrey6618 He's a public figure and that just comes with the territory. These have been reported on by multiple sources as opposed to simply "gossip". Besides, I didn't say that these reports were absolutely true, just expressing what has been widely reported. So, back in your worm hole, please!
