Lol, "hopefully you found that useful and not totally confusing". Are you kidding? That is the clearest, least-confusing, explanation i could ever imagine.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water as a solvent from a low concentration of solute to a high sconcentration of solute, through a semi-permeable membrane. thanks sal!
I cant even tell you how much this helped me. My biology teacher does this thing where she zips through the notes in a week and then gives us problems on the test we didnt learn. This makes it so simple for me to understand, breaking it down like this. your amazing, thankyou.
i swear, you are the best teach ever! my biology teacher is good, but in these cases where i wasnt in class and i have no idea hor to explain these stuff to myself, youre a life savior. god bless your soul!!!
You introduce concepts WAY better than my teacher. This 19 minute vid was concentrated with clear information and I understood much more than when my teacher spends an hour jumping from concept to concept.
My teacher should just show this and save himself the confusion and time of making a lesson. I literally learned more from this short(ish) video than I did from a whole biology unit. This was a great test review too!
I take Bio in 8th grade so it makes things harder to take it earlier. What makes it worst is that our teacher CANNOT TEACH. Instead of showing examples, all we do is take notes. After watching this video it enhanced my knowledge of diffusion and osmosis. Its SOO much easier now and less complicated. If I had Sal as my teacher my life would've been SO MUCH EASIER.
The thing is that english is not my language and I clearly understand what he's saying. I just listened all proces of photosynthesis and I feel illuminated about it.. Now I'll explain it to my teacher :D
I have been reading about semi permeability, diffusion, and osmosis for nearly two weeks now. I felt like all my resources were giving me conflicting responses. I get it now!!!!!!!!!! :)
I have a test on cells, heredity(etc)tomorrow couldnt remover anything about this. Super helpful. You explained ThisWAY better than my science teacher ever could
Thank you so much! I don't comment on videos but I have to thank you. My biology teacher this year makes no sense! please don't ever stop making videos.
we spent a week trying to learn this and my i didnt understand.... now i just learned it in less than 20 minutes. how about i just drop out of school and just watch khans videos all day?
This is the kind of video that really deserves a like, subscribe and a comment not that cringe videos I HOPE I PASS I HAVE A PAPER TODAY ACTUALLY WISH ME GOOD LUCK 👍 🙂 🙃 😩 😪
Thanks two questions: (1) I understand Sugar but what about salt? Will it work? Well of course it will, BUT, when the solute is placed in solution, we get Na+ ions etc and these are real small, so why don't we get these ions traversing the membrane? (or have I misunderstood) (2) Einstein said we can never create or destroy energy, so if osmosis increases the pressure on the hyper-tonic side, where does the energy come from? (Does the temperature change or what?) Thanks . . . AA
i have been very sick for almost two weeks, and the day i get back I have to take a test on this. My class has been going over it for two weeks, so I had to learn it all in one day. I watched this video and got an A on the test, while everyone else got a b-c on it. Thank you so much.
A little long winded but I like the repetition - makes good for test prep. You have a nice voice too which makes it easier to keep listening. Thank you.
Your video helped me soooo much to finally understand diffusion and Osmosis!! I'm studying for my CCHT test and these are the related questions I had the hardest time with.....until you explained it in a way I could understand. Thank you so much!!!
i study english at uni so nothing scince related however i love learning about science in my spare time and these colourful videos are awesome for that so thanks a lot!
I have a test tomorrow on this topic and this video really helped me understand what osmosis and diffusion is. It actually helped me by looking at the drawings . I also found it interesting. :-)
Thank you! Doing an anatomy and physiology experiment on osmosis and diffusion tomorrow, and I now have a much better understanding of the principles behind it.
It is not confusing but very helpful :D Thanks so much..This is probably the first time I understand what Osmosis or Diffusion is! ..I didn't understand anything what my teacher tried to explain me :)
HI Sal, I've been watching your videos since your started and now still watching....I love your channel and I am learning so much for Anatomy and Physiology than listening to a boring lecture for 3 hours !!
I have some questions, please 1- Why doesn't oil mix with water according to the idea of diffusion? 2- What does osmotic pressure mean? 3- If sugar molecules blocks water molecules inside ,why don't they block water molecules outside the semipermeable membrane?
Thanks so much I have been in class 5 weeks now and I have learned a lot but; diffusion and osmosis kept going over my head but with your help I GOT IT ! God Bless you !
At his website it lists out the university level courses (science, math, computer science, etc) in a more organized listing than looking through here on youtube. Very straightforward links from there back to youtube.
i was about to drop my bio class, everything seemed so difficult, then i stumbled upon this wonderful video, and i have so much more confidence. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I thank you so much for going into detail as to why all this stuff happens, my brain won't just accept that something just happens and that's the way my teacher explains it, but you take more time to explain why it happens, why diffusion occurs the way it does and it helps me a lot and helps me comprehend it better :) thank you
this helped me out a lot! Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly explaining Diffusion and Osmosis! I didn't understand my professor at first but I got it after watching this video. Two Thumbs Up!
I'm studing at home and was ment to go on a break, but i was actully enjoying your teaching style so much i watched into my break, so clear, thankyou so much!!!! You rock.
I love you. I watched this 45 min before taking my bio quiz. Please keep doing this. Is there anyway I can support? This is free and I learn more from you than I do in College.
GOD bless you! I was so frustrated with this chapter and you have have explained it so simple and clear. You saved me! thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
Oh my God I have a bio test tomorrow and I was freaking out because I couldn't understand osmosis and diffusion. This was one of the best classes I've ever had, thank you so much!!!!
Thank you, this really helped. I liked how you explained exactly why the solute goes from high concentration to low concentration until equilibrium is reached. I never understood that part. The illustration that was particularly helpful to me was the one of sugar molecules blocking the openings in the membranes.
This is what my social studies class was like. We had fun the whole class period, and had a short quiz the next day after watching a video after school.
Nice trick I use to remember which one is which is for "hypo"tonic I think of a hippo (hippopotamus) being fat and filled with water. Hope this might help a few people
That has to do with cell junctions and the properties of water and the cell membrane. There are three types, tight junctions, desmosomes and gap junctions. Look that up might explain a few things. Also water can go over the cell membrane, but not that fast to contain its healthy/normal state. A type of transport protein called aqua pores let watermolecules enter or leace the cell. the protein forms a tunnel that crosses the membrane, so called channel proteins. Hope this helps.
0:00 solvent review
2:28 diffusion introduction
6:29 diffusion with solutes
8:16 diffusion vocabulary

Thank you so much!!!
Vielen dank
thx
Mitchell Lenneville thanks .....I sometimes don't like how he beats about the bush without going straight to the point
Mitchell Lenneville I love u
I've learned more in this 19 minute video than the entire hour with my bio teacher, thanks.
lmao same
it's me sebah! same here
same here
Exactly
it's me sebah! 2 weeks
Lol, "hopefully you found that useful and not totally confusing".
Are you kidding? That is the clearest, least-confusing, explanation i could ever imagine.
reef99red EXACTLY
God bless the Whole Khan Academy and its lecturers/providers. You are making this world a better place. Planting hope into the youth by educating them
true.
true.
true.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water as a solvent from a low concentration of solute to a high sconcentration of solute, through a semi-permeable membrane. thanks sal!
I just needed your comment. Thank you.
Thanks for making me
Understand the more
thank you most for this hehe.
Tyyy ❤️👀
Thankss
I cant even tell you how much this helped me. My biology teacher does this thing where she zips through the notes in a week and then gives us problems on the test we didnt learn. This makes it so simple for me to understand, breaking it down like this. your amazing, thankyou.
They weren't kidding when they said Khan Academy is good at explaining things!
?
Yep but who
Wow I might not actually fail my test tomorrow
Ha me2
You learn more from this guy in 18 minutes then what you learn in a week at school. Thanks.
A week? Dude I am learning IGCSE Biology and my teacher "covered" the whole chapter in 45 minutes and I am still confused.
i swear, you are the best teach ever! my biology teacher is good, but in these cases where i wasnt in class and i have no idea hor to explain these stuff to myself, youre a life savior. god bless your soul!!!
You've got a fun way of explaining things without losing the boudary!!!I have understood topics in a much better way!!!You're the best Sal!!!
You introduce concepts WAY better than my teacher. This 19 minute vid was concentrated with clear information and I understood much more than when my teacher spends an hour jumping from concept to concept.

@@iwannadie1861 I'm in college now and nothing has changed since this comment loool
idk why but i just love how colorful the whole thing is, its one of my favourite things about these videos tbh
i just love the way this person makes a difficult topic simple
7:42 *Balanced, how all things should be.*
Wow I've been watching videos all day to study for finals. But your videos are by far the most clear and easitest to understand. Thank you so much
Wow this comment was 7 years agooo 😂💀👀❤️
Omg thank you. You made everything so clear I was not confused at any part of the video gonna ace tht test tomorrow. Thanks :)
same, this does really help
yes
did you ace it
@@wasiantalks aren't u 6 years late?
Thank you! After hours of textbooks, notes, and lectures, it was majorly confusing. But your nineteen minute video? Completely makes sense now.
God bless you. That really helped a lot. My biology teacher was really confusing but you straightened it out.
You explained ThisWAY better than my science teacher ever could
honestly, this is one of the rare videos on the channel where everything was overly generalized, and the explanations were not-so-amazing
You just saved me an hour of studying notes into 20 minutes! I love this!
im a year 9 (form 3) in New Zealand, Mount Maunganui College and I just wanna say thanks. that was reaaaally handy, it will help me loads in my exams.
*mindblown* why can my teacher teach it this simply
this guy has taught me more through sciences than ive learnt in 4 years studying them!
Thank you so much! I don't comment on videos but I have to thank you. My biology teacher this year makes no sense! please don't ever stop making videos.
the Khan Academy guy know everything💯
Very clear and straight forward; thank you so much! I finally have a clearer understanding of this topic for school.
Wow great vid! why can't all teacher be like this guy???? =(
He is.
I really like him as a teacher. He repeats words when he’s talking.
we spent a week trying to learn this and my i didnt understand....
now i just learned it in less than 20 minutes.
how about i just drop out of school and just watch khans videos all day?

Thanks two questions:

this has to be the most clear explanation of diffusion in my life.
i have been very sick for almost two weeks, and the day i get back I have to take a test on this. My class has been going over it for two weeks, so I had to learn it all in one day. I watched this video and got an A on the test, while everyone else got a b-c on it. Thank you so much.

After watching this, I got 90% on Osmosis and Diffusion test. Thank you!!!! Credit definitely goes to khanacademy!
Your video helped me soooo much to finally understand diffusion and Osmosis!! I'm studying for my CCHT test and these are the related questions I had the hardest time with.....until you explained it in a way I could understand. Thank you so much!!!
wow that was a whole lecture in 18 minutes. amazing. this is why i donate lol. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where ontario teachers have failed to teach students properly, you have come in and done their job, so thankyou!
I have read this several times in my A&P book and saw several videos and did not understand.. This video totally makes sense. THANK YOU!! : ))
u make everything make sense.. i bet if i watch all of your videos i would ace my bio class
i study english at uni so nothing scince related however i love learning about science in my spare time and these colourful videos are awesome for that so thanks a lot!
In the first 4 minutes alone, you taught me more than my teacher could manage in a week. Exceptional, subscribed :)
I have a test tomorrow on this topic and this video really helped me understand what osmosis and diffusion is. It actually helped me by looking at the drawings . I also found it interesting. :-)
me too
ok, hope you all did very well :)
thanks!
THANK GOD for Khan Academy, I have a biology test coming up and was so lost. I watched this video and it makes sense, keep doing your thing, Saul!
Thank you! Doing an anatomy and physiology experiment on osmosis and diffusion tomorrow, and I now have a much better understanding of the principles behind it.

How does he learn EVERY SINGLE subject that I need help with? He always has exactly the subject that I need.
i really like the way you break down the subject matter for non-bio nerds. sending a big thank you to you!
Thanks so much I have been in class 5 weeks now and I have learned a lot but; diffusion and osmosis kept going over my head but with your help I GOT IT ! God Bless you !
Reading comments on Khanacademy videos has always been fun.! Keep up the good work Sal.
good video, it's not that this confuses me, it's more about exposing myself to the labels so they stick in my brain.
At his website it lists out the university level courses (science, math, computer science, etc) in a more organized listing than looking through here on youtube.
Very straightforward links from there back to youtube.
Just looked this over for my first quiz in Anatomy and Physiology 2. Thank you for this explanation!
Doctor Syed same but for A and P 1
I hope watching these videos will help me get a 90 or above on my bio exam which is in 2-3 weeks!
this is the first time ive been able to understand this topic!!!! THANK YOU
i was about to drop my bio class, everything seemed so difficult, then i stumbled upon this wonderful video, and i have so much more confidence. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Yay an adult who has took a biology degree and can teach unlike my biology teacher who relies on textbooks and the internet
my highly paid teacher made this sound so complicated and you make it so simple and understandable ... please be my teacher
I LOVE YOU. i understand these videos so much better than my professors at my university
Thank you so much im in college right now and you explain this way better then my professor
I'm studing at home and was ment to go on a break, but i was actully enjoying your teaching style so much i watched into my break, so clear, thankyou so much!!!! You rock.
Best definition for diffusion= it goes from where it is to where it isn't. Simple as that.
Million times better explanation than my boring IGCSE text book!
I love you. I watched this 45 min before taking my bio quiz. Please keep doing this. Is there anyway I can support? This is free and I learn more from you than I do in College.
As a A-EMT student. This helps me better understand the point of IV's.
This was better explained than a book thanks so much....
KhanAcademy helped me to review a unit on OSMOSIS AND DIFFUSION in my BIOLOGY class!
gazillions is the technical term
I always found osmosis really hard to understand but you made it a bit more clear to me, thanks.
thank u so much! i am just having a test on osmosis and diffusion tomorrow! thx! (:
GOD bless you! I was so frustrated with this chapter and you have have explained it so simple and clear. You saved me! thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much

This helped immensely. flunked my last test on this but retaking it soon. Im sure this helped!
Nice trick I use to remember which one is which is for "hypo"tonic I think of a hippo (hippopotamus) being fat and filled with water. Hope this might help a few people
NOW I understand when my teacher mr.hans does it I don't under stand

plz don't say your not good...your awesome ....and my teacher ......can't explain ...even I don't want to 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 keep up the awesome work
