Well, fun fact is, in japan most titles ARE named like that, usually they get different subtitles for our regions, but this seems like one of the cases where they just literally translated the japanese subtitle :D

Ah yes, the game I refer to as "Metal Slog".
This is a real "Street Fighter" situation, isn't it? Mediocre-as-hell first game, followed up by a damn fine sequel.
My dad and I actually finished this game about a year ago. For him to be a non-gamer it was a good pick-up-n-play very slowly kind of game.
So I tested it, and you absolutely CAN get shot while climbing across the rope. There's no hit detection in the legs but they can hit you in the upper body for sure.

SHMUP Master Playing this game on overclocked snes hardware makes it infinitely more playable, and in fact turns it in to quite the fun game. Just more proof that Nintendo really nerfed a potentially legendary console by equipping it with way too slow of a processor, while succeeding with it's hardware configuration in nearly every other way for it's time and direct competition in 1990.

I used to rent this all the time from our local video store back in the day! I LOVED it as a kid, but in hindsight it did have a shit ton of SNES slow down. Still have great memories running through this one on the weekends

1:48 i LOVE that feature - to be able to walk into enemies and not die unless you are actually attacked. SHINOBI from 1987 arcade game by sega had this feature. you could "ow ow" your way into guys and even cause a glitch on the 3rd mission at the start.
I still have this game somewhere in my storage closet. I actually enjoyed it when i was young

When I played this game, I thought it wasn't totally bad. I would give it a B-. But one problem is that the buttons are reversed and there is no options menu to reconfigured them. SNES platformers and beat 'em ups normally use Y for attack, and B for jump. But Gun Force uses Y and X for jump, and B and A for attacks. What's weirder is that L and R are also jump buttons. I thought one way to get around this is to use an arcade stick that has R to the right of A. So I can use R for jump and A for attack. Another solution is to use emulation where you can reconfigure the buttons.
The price is right but game looks average, good vid as always man.
If I’m not mistaken, Gunforce 2 was the final game before Irem shut down and the team formed Nazca. I’ve heard that they technically didn’t even finish the game and that it doesn’t have a proper ending. It just boots you back to the first stage with a bonus credit.

Hard to believe this game was the precursor to Metal Slug. You can see the Metal Slug sprite style in Gun Force 2. Its amazing.
I remember when my brother and I rented this game, it was kinda slow but I have fun memories of it.
The game essentially looks like cyberpunk Metal Slug, but man, the slow movement kills it.
I have a sudden urge to watch a Jean Claude Van Damme movie.
Spastic ladder climb looks like the most entertaining part of the game.
I beat this over the weekend with a friend. Killing 30 minutes playing something new when you've already played every other co-op is a perfect summation. It was an enjoyable enough 30 minutes, but it definitely could have used a few more levels.

What always creeped me out about this game when I was a kid was that eerie scream the character makes when he dies.
The scream to me is reminiscent of those talking Karate Fighters toys from the 90's. When you knock them off their pedestal they scream almost the same way
Played this in arcades a lot. Funny thing tho, in some parts, this game is actually known as Front Mission.
Been watching a lot of your videos recently and I'm really enjoying the nostalgia trip...especially as I still play my snes. Could you look into a favourite of mine from the nes days. A cool action side scrolled called action in new york (at least that's what it is called in the uk).

I recently got Contra III for 12€. Simply because in my region it's not called Contra III and has some artwork changed but it's the same game.
I had this game, and boy, I remember jumping and shooting not being B and Y was such a hassle...

I highly recommend playing this in 2 player coop.
Played both Arcade and SNES versions, and TBH I didn't thought the SNES version to be "that" bad, just way more slower. The Arcade was pretty cool, but the sequel is definitely a must play, that's for sure.
(*SPOILERS*: The only issue that I actually had with GunForce 2/GeoStorm was its lack of an ending, other than that, that game was AWESOME).
As bad as this game was, I have memories of beating it a few times as a kid. I liked the soundtrack too.
The Gunforce 'arcade version' by Irem is very solid, however, Gunforce 2 is an arcade masterpiece. (must play)
I really liked this game when I was a child despite that it's not as good as others classics

Great video. I think I'll fire this one up tonight for the lulz. Moon Jumping games are infuriating, but they remind me of all of the crappy platformers I played as a kid. Fingers crossed for the completion of your Chrono Trigger LP.
I actually really like this game for what it was, sound was good, shooting okay, difficulty okay, and weapon selection was good.

Im supposing they translated the full japanese title. Gunforce 2 kinda looks like the elevator action returns,or at least reminds me of it.

I remember this game a lot. My first experience with Gunforce was playing the SNES game running in an arcade machine. The Arcade version of Gunforce is faster though.

Well...The "Sequel" GunForce 2 / GeoStorm, happens at the same time as In the Hunt. Because the evil guys D.A.S. organization is also the evil guys on In The Hunt and the goal is also to stop the organization to conquer the world (in the case of In The Hunt, by nukes. Here is a Alien coaliation....Yep, is Metal Slug, and probally everyone knows that)
I know its a clunky, not well made game but it has a special place in my heart.
Sadly this game wasn't quite the game it's arcade version was. The pseudo "sequel" in arcades is Metal Slug's ancestor (GunForce 2 or Geo Storm), and is an incredible game.
Loved this game
Not the most original game but I still have a soft spot in my heart for run and gun games even if they are mediocre. Case in point E Swat on the Genesis. It’s pretty mediocre so if it’s that good I’ll be happy.
Is the Gun Force 1 arcade version worth playing? I'm sure it's better than the SNES version, but it still looks pedestrian.

Hell yeah. Gunforce was a somewhat mediocre arcade game that you could beat in about 15 minutes but Gun Force II however is hands down my favorite arcade game of all time and, somewhat fitting, was the last game Irem made for arcades before they kicked the bucket. The sad thing is that, being their last arcade game, it was rushed to completion meaning it could have been even better. (There was evidence that it was originally supposed to be 4 player co-op. Just imagine that!). Still, they ended with a bang (No pun intended) and Gun Force II serves as a perfect epitaph and why Irem will always be my favorite arcade developer. The post Street Fighter II years may have been rough on them but it lead to much of their strongest work.

Definitely a hard pass on SNES, but it did make for a funny video. The arcade games in the series looks good though! Kinda seems like you're having to scrape the bottom of the barrel for SNES games though. Maybe it would be better to focus more on the other consoles, looking for more console gems? Love your channel regardless, and you've opened my eyes to so many SNES games I've never heard of.
And more ROM hack videos please!

i really like gunforce, but too much slowdown. they should have fixed that first. had the guys who worked on space megaforce, or rendering ranger r2, or cybernator etc worked on this it would have been fast and no slowdown. i still like it though, it's a fun game

I always get sd card errors when trying to back up a save on it but maybe thats my card's fault and not the ufo's
It works for me, it's cheaper than other flash carts, and you can dump and patch the ROMs yourself if you're into that.

this is a game i really really wanted to like! but the criminally slow pacing, poor controls, and choppy animations is too much to bear. its a shame because u could see the potential here and the snes def needed some more run and gunners!
