I could not be more excited for this game if I tried. I have a feeling, Matt, that you've really created a masterpiece, and I think I speak for all of us when I say we're hyped.
The idea of someone moving into a dead npc’s house and doing his “job” is fantastic. I am really excited for this game. Thanks for sharing your inspirations and plans. This is awesome.
I am extremely excited for this game, the combination of simulation and systems driven gameplay with a big GTAish city is such an obvious combination that's never been properly made until now. It's inspiring to see you tackling such an ambitious project.
i think it would be lovely to add more options for roleplay in terms of experiencing the game world. you've already done a lot to make the game world feel lived in, but i think allowing the player to interact more with NPCs and allowing them to flesh out their character more will be another good step towards making a procedurally-generated world feel more lifelike
the earlier devlogs actually made me think about Pirates! seeing how you are shaping the open world with the little cities and village clusters and factions and stuff so good to know that it actually is an inspiration, even though it was very small and the gameplay was simple it still is one of the open worlds that felt more "alive", excited to see a longer/more durable form of the chaos of streets of rogue
In a world where Bethesda announced Elder Scrolls VI in 2018 and we still have no release dates (this attitude from devs applies to a ton of "hyped" games currently in production), this is the only game that I'm optimistic about. Edit: SID MEIER'S PIRATES!!! Probably my 2nd favorite game of all time, right behind Fate.
Just wanted to drop on by in this comment section to say that I love your work. Big fan of the original Streets of Rogue and the direction you're taking the sequel is exactly what I was personally hoping for. All the games you mentioned in this video, with Messiah as an exception, were precisely the kind of games that drew me in when I was younger for the reasons you mention. Knowing this, my hype for Streets of Rogue 2 has grown even further. Can't wait, take care and thank you for currently being my favorite game developer, both in what you make and the person you are.
Caves of Qud does something very similar to what cdda does. But Qud has a permanent geography for the world map and the cells Are procgen. The history isprocgen too too a certain point and affects the world (historical sites and relics, cults and faction relations amongst themselves). Also it has complex systems, fluids usage, its own measurement system that actually means something for a game that uses cells, units and blocks. If you never saw it, you should give a look as by considering your dev log, it fits easily on your taste and inspirations.
13:22 , One other game that does this is Shadows of Doubt. It's a fully procedurally generated city district where you solve crimes as a freelance detective.
This is what I liked about streets of rogue you could start a new game every 5 minutes without feeling you lost something because you died. Action from the first second !
6:38 Actually you nailed it in the first game Wow. Its funny when playing certain class(the gang or the mech pilot) that have an enemy and make chaos because you have random "reverance" or "friend of the common folk" just all out brawl in map. Can't wait it to see in open world formula
You seem like such a likeable person, I've just recently watched the devlogs and I must say, they hype me up even more for the game. Watching you talk about the inspirations for the game or the technical stuff like in part 2 is so awesome. I can't wait for August 14th.
Have you heard of Vuntra City? It's an indie open world game project whose whole premise is exploring an infinite procedurally generated cyberpunk city where you can enter every single building and they're all fully furnished. I'm not sure if their approach would be at all relevant but it's definitely interesting. They've got a bunch of devlogs on youtube.
Great video and inspiring as a hobbyist dev. I am looking forward to SOR2. I loved SOR and all the random shit you could do like hacking computers, poison air vents, etc.
Oh yeah is there anything on dying in streets of rogue 2? Do we know if that ends a run or if you’re allowed to respawn? My guess is there’s a hardcore mode and a normal mode, but obviously I don’t know.
That's a good question. I imagine by default it'll be a single-life permadeath system, like SoR1, except the gameworld doesn't get deleted when you die. Just your character and his stat progress. That's what would make the most sense to me.
I know it can’t always be on par but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, keep consoles in mind! I haven’t felt the attraction to a game in a while. Next Terraria/StardewValley?
Honestly, if you have too much work for a proper devlog I'd also be happy with some unscripted unedited 10min of you talking about one topic, if that makes iot easier.
cdda is a game i havent play but i know by proxy because of project zomboid its a game that i would mention is another that is set in modern city but them i remenber, no hes saying procedural game set on modern city, but i guess rimworld is one, is more spaceage mix with spaghetti western but it has cities on it, or small towns that you can attack or visit with your trading caravans
Would be really cool if there was a mutation available to stop people from moving in after someone dies. Could open up story telling ideas like being the cause of a mini apocalypse 🤣
should I buy the first Streets of Rogue and play through it or should I just wait for this one and play it instead? is the experience really that different?
okay I just kept watching the video and yeah, the core experience seems pretty different, I might play the first just to get a feel of how the core mechanics of SoR 1 have evolved into SoR 2
the first game is still quite a lot of fun, it definitely looks like the core gameplay feels similar in terms of just basic things like combat and other actions like that.
You asked for another game that procedurally generates cities, so I guess that means you haven't played Rogue Survivor yet. You really need to, it is an excellent roguelike, maybe a lot like a simpler CCDA.
Here after the delay news But yeah man delay the game and take your time me and a friend really can't wait to see what the this sequel has to truly offer after playing the first game and trying out the demo. But yeah keep on cookin 👍
Because it wasn't ready. It's an Early Access release, if it's not ready for EA it's not ready to sell. I get the frustration, it's literally the only game I'm looking forward to.
I hope you find a way to market this game better. I would never have guessed that it had these influences even though I've watched promo stuff for it before.
I am sorry but you reading a script in front of the camera is so distracting because you rarely look at the camera, even when you are remembering a memory you are still reading from a script
Will the game have fun modifiers for world generation? Like zombie apocalypse? Like it starts with a single zombie, that slowly spreads to the entire world over the playtime. Or everyone rocks some kind of gun. Pretty much what you had going in the first game
buying this the second it drops
SAAAAME
Bruh I'm pre-pre-pre-buying this.
Buying this exactly 4 days and 32 minuts after it drops
It will be two days after my birthday, best gift!!!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭
I'm buying it 1 microsecond after

AHHHH
All of the things you added were things I wanted in the first game
Be sure to wishlist Streets of Rogue 2 on Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/2165810/Streets_of_Rogue_2/
But I need it NOWWUUGGHH
I had no idea bears bending spacetime was such a problem for game devs.
I was surprised that such an obscure game like Messiah was an inspiration, that's really cool!
Great devlog! Can't wait to see how Streets of Rogue 3 develops
😨😨😨
definitely one of its feature is annoying night people at 6 A.M🤣

babe wake up, there is SoR2 devlog

Just started playing SoR and I simply love it! It's truly a work of genius. Can't wait to purchase SoR2 when you drop it!!!

Edit:
SID MEIER'S PIRATES!!! Probably my 2nd favorite game of all time, right behind Fate.
No joke, this is one of my most anticipated games of the year.
With each new point you make here, you're speaking my language! Stoked for the game!
i just saw the most recent trailer I AM HYPED
This is gonna be so fun!
This video speaks to my soul. Can't wait to play the game!
Just wanted to drop on by in this comment section to say that I love your work.

I'm so hyped rn
So excited for all the RPG elements, well done Matt!
Wishlisted this already, this is my most anticipated game on the moment ❤
At the moment I'm mainly hyped for this game and Gold Gold Adventure Gold, and they're both coming out (or should be) this fall! Very excited :)
SOR was executed very well, fantastic replayability. I'm looking forward to playing SOR2!

I remember buying Fallout when it came out. The best time of my childhood. XD
I love the first one can't wait for the second one
Glad to hear that the SoR franchise thrives. Fingers crossed for the 3.
13:22 , One other game that does this is Shadows of Doubt. It's a fully procedurally generated city district where you solve crimes as a freelance detective.
are the crimes and scenes different each time or just the city itself
@@somewhataddicted7685 There are different crime types, with random clues and red herrings.
Everything described about the pirate game reminds me of Mount & Blade Bannerlord
This is what I liked about streets of rogue you could start a new game every 5 minutes without feeling you lost something because you died. Action from the first second !

So excited to see _Messiah_ as one of the inspirations for this! It's an obscure game and I can't get it running any more.
You seem like such a likeable person, I've just recently watched the devlogs and I must say, they hype me up even more for the game. Watching you talk about the inspirations for the game or the technical stuff like in part 2 is so awesome. I can't wait for August 14th.
This is the only new game coming that I know for sure is going to be great
you are the best, Matt!
Literally going to buy like five copies of this. Take your time but also shut up and take my money!
Daggerfall was wild! I'm excited for their new game, Wayward Realms!
Also, I highly enjoy the little car sprites you have going on there!
Messiah was such a weird game, I did like it though. Pirates is a masterpiece, still love it to this day and it's never been bested IMO.
words cannot describe the hype i have for this game
Can't wait ❤
I already say at work that I will not be available the days the game will be released. I just can't wait to play!!

October. OCTOBER 22, WHY, I NEED THIS GAME!!!??
Great video and inspiring as a hobbyist dev. I am looking forward to SOR2. I loved SOR and all the random shit you could do like hacking computers, poison air vents, etc.
YAY! HI MATT!

I saw that the zombie was playable in the trailer and it mentioned causing a zombie apocalypse so i wonder how that would work.
I know it can’t always be on par but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, keep consoles in mind! I haven’t felt the attraction to a game in a while. Next Terraria/StardewValley?

Men see Streets of Rogue and say hell yeah
love to see a game inspired by tons of different things instead of just hollow knight + celeste lol
cdda is a game i havent play but i know by proxy because of project zomboid

I sincerely hope the wait between PC early access and console release isnt 2 years like last time.
I see a lot of GTA 2 in this game. ^^
When starts the game test dear Matt ?
Would be really cool if there was a mutation available to stop people from moving in after someone dies. Could open up story telling ideas like being the cause of a mini apocalypse 🤣

Please make 2 optimized for Steamdeck, my dream come true
Why was the game release pushed back to october??
Because it wasn't ready. It's an Early Access release, if it's not ready for EA it's not ready to sell. I get the frustration, it's literally the only game I'm looking forward to.
I hope this game sells million's
I hope you find a way to market this game better. I would never have guessed that it had these influences even though I've watched promo stuff for it before.
Hey! This looks awesome! Do you need music for it? I am an audio engineer and composer.
я вам конкретно обосру игру! Так как тест не дали!
