I found this game in the eShop on sale and found these guides too. Thanks for helping me figure out how to navigate through this chaotic game. You helped me through my first victory as the zombie.
The zombie probably has the greatest increase in difficulty from the beginning of the game to the end. Until Downtown, you can basically just stomp around like you own the place, killing people with your bare fists and stopping for nothing. Once you have to contend with Supercops, things get dangerous immediately. For this reason, the strategy that matters most for the zombie is your long-term strategy. To reiterate: The only NPCs that can reliably and credibly threaten your life are Supercops. Your early and mid game are all about gaining the resources and abilities to take them down. From the beginning, you should prioritize amassing money to upgrade both Flesh Feast and Bullet Sponge. These skills are expensive to upgrade, but, again, you don't need a power boost until Downtown, so you should have plenty of time to accrue funds. You can easily massacre every single NPC on the early levels, and sell all of their stuff. You can't use guns, you don't need items with clever uses, and you don't really even need melee weapons. (Because Flesh Feast heals you based on the number of times you hit enemies, you can actually gain more health by sticking to your fists, since you'll be able to hit NPCs more times before they die. I would recommend using melee weapons only against the most threatening opponents, and selling as much as you can.) With both Flesh Feast+ and Bullet Sponge+, you'll be pretty difficult to kill, as long as you can keep hitting your enemies. Getting rid of your Stubby Fingers should not be a priority. Guns that fire simple bullets--pistols, revolvers, shotguns, machineguns--are going to suck because of your bottom-tier Firearms stat. You also won't regain health by killing with guns. If you find special weapons like the tranquilizer gun, the rocket launcher, arguably the water gun or the shrink ray, it might be worth $600 bucks to be able to use them, but it should still be secondary to upgrading Flesh Feast and Bullet Sponge. If you have a chance to upgrade your Speed stat, you should probably take it. The biggest threat to you will be getting pinned down by a horde of Supercops, and if you are unable to either get away or get close enough to attack them, you're going to take a ton of damage. Until you reach Downtown, you should try to heal yourself solely through Flesh Flesh, and save your consumables for the final stretch. Kill healthenizers are a nice item too, one of the few you shouldn't sell. Blends in Nicely is a good skill to pick up and upgrade. You probably won't need it until Uptown, but it can save your life there. Without it, a gang of Supercops can see you from a distance, even immediately upon starting the level, attack you in numbers, and raise the barricades to keep you in place. Mayor's Village seems like it should be a nightmare, as much as I'm warning you about Supercops, but once you've completed your Big Quest, the zombies you make are going to be absolute monsters. As long as you can start the process of a zombie invasion, the whole village is likely to fall with minimal effort.
My first piece of advice: Zombies are NOT multiplayer friendly, so unless your friend has the zombiism, so either another zombie or a zombie custom with at least zombiism. Or as someone else stated, robots. Also the wiki says that improving the strength of your zombies is tied to your zombei plegm ability but that's an utter lie, it's ACTUALLY tied to Zombiism. So you don't need the phlegm to get stronger zombies. Applicable only for a custom char. Also, you could still get those zombies the ability to use the abilities they had when they were alive. Such as breaking windows or hacking devices. So try to get them to your party. That said, they aren't technically the same person as before, so this often means they can't complete quests or still give quests, obviously.
It isn't literally impossible to initiate an election with the Fair Game trait, because a Hypnotizer will override the effect of Fair Game--though the clerk will still run away from you, so you'll also have to exercise some ingenuity to have a conversation. And from there, actually concluding the election is difficult, since the Mayor and the Supercops will still become hostile on sight. I've never actually managed/bothered to 1. hypnotize the clerk, 2. catch the clerk and talk to them, 3. keep your zombies from killing the mayor and the clerk long enough to hold an election, and 4. keep the mayor and cops from becoming hostile and interrupting the elections. But I think it can be done! I'm inspired to try.
@An_Ian Ok, I finally got around to trying it. It wasn't too difficult--I ended up with all the necessary resources on one try--but it's so much more troublesome than just killing everybody in Mayor Village that there's no reason to bother. I only had Hypnotizers Mark 1, but I started cloning them so that I had 15 by the end. This turned out to be necessary, in order to befriend the City Hall clerk and pacify the Mayor and his entourage of Supercops. I used a cardboard box to move around initially--that's not strictly necessary, but it is highly useful to avoid unnecessary conflict. (You don't want any other zombies running around causing damage, so you don't want to have to kill anyone.) The Mayor will still run from you after you win the election, even when he's friendly, so you'll have to find a way to sneak up behind him and talk to him in the split second before he bolts. Cardboard box is helpful again. Totally stupid waste of time.
When you say that you can't zombify chicken nuggets, do you mean to say that exploded NPCs won't turn into zombies? That might not be what you meant, that might just be my misunderstanding, but just in case: infected NPCs cannot be exploded. No matter how much damage they are dealt in the killing blow, their corpses will remain intact and resurrect as zombies.
hold up 4:23 you said that npc zombies will attack rescue objective targets, when that is not true, i recently played zombie the other day and had no trouble with friendly zombies attacking my escort
i'm not too sure on 6:13 because i could have sworn i got 3 times the required infections in the later floors, and the big quest objective does not apply to the active war zone disaster
If you get the zombie outbreak the quest will auto complete All other disasters don't affect your big quest beyond where and who you can infect. If you want the exact number it tab on PC to pull down the map menu and your big quest will be clearly labeled in the top right corner.
A commentor found a way apparently, it it was apparently NOT worth it. It takes pretty much hypnotizing every possible threat, such as clerk and the body guard cops, and even after that sneak talking to both the clerk and mayor to start the whole process. Best do it with literally any other character.
Zombie class is so much fun to play
I was thinking to myself "Ian better use "Re: Your Brains in the intro or I'm unsubcribing." And you used it
Awesome! 🎉

If you blinded the receptionist, could you run for election?

Fun fact: Zombies wont attack you if you're a robot or have the electronic trait unless you attack them first.
i'm not too sure on 6:13 because i could have sworn i got 3 times the required infections in the later floors, and the big quest objective does not apply to the active war zone disaster
