Even though I’m a Ford guy still like watching any Aussie car having a helping hand back from the dead is always satisfying, you never stop learning and I’m 64 with a panel beater brother and I can still learn things from you man, keep up the good work, so satisfying to see rust just go away and there you have it, a new panel, magic.
Yes, I am a Holden & the HQ is my favourite model Kingswood, my dad drove a metallic lime green 1972 model HQ Kingswood wagon home after he bought it in 1980 when I was 2 1/2 years old & too short to see above the dash, my mother drove his old LC Torana home with my 1 year old brother in it which car my dad sold. It shone & glistened in the sun because it was painted in a metallic lime green colour, the first owners wife apparently had an accident in it which resulted in a tree branch poking through the front grille & the radiator so they got it fixed up.& Sold it to my dad. It ended up with less rust than the HQ in the video & my dad was cutting rust out of it & welding plates into it in the 1980's , he ended up gas axing it in the late 1990's after selling the engine, seats,ROH jellybean mag rims, etc out of it. I would say that my 1986 model Holden VL Commodore which is fitted with a twin cam 3 litre Nissan RB30 engine has about as much rust as that HQ sedan in the video does I do plan on restoring it & yes, you can do that if.you put your mind to it & it's a car that you love ❤, I am tossing up on replacing the doors or repairing the rust in them. I do plan to tow it to where I am going to move to next year, there will be much more room to work on it there. I currently drive a 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore & I began cutting rust out near the right hand side tail light along the pinch weld for the boot seal which was rusted out which was in 2026. There was a rust hole just beneath the right hand side tail light which I cut out then I welded a metal plate over, that rust repair is still holding up strong. There was a 1/2: inch long rust hole underneath the passenger side trim cover which covers the spot welds between the rear 1/4 panel & top section, I.just die ground the rust hole out, peened it in slightly then I roughed up the surrounding area with the die grinder. I etch primed that spot then I filled it in with fibreglass reinforced body filler, I sanded it back then applied normal body filler to smooth out the low spots then I primed and painted the repaired surface !
I love watching these clips. You do on old Holden’s HQ’s especially wish I had your skill set. Enjoy watching all your content doesn’t get tedious watching it over and over again.
Good vid dude, I saw a guy on YT recently pull those stainless gutter trims off with an alloy bottle opener from rear to front, looked easy and no damage, never tried it myself because i don't need to, just thought worth mentioning if anyone needed. Blessed are the HQ's may they live forever.
Awesome to see another on it way to be saved mate.. Unfortunately some are worse than other's.. Be interesting to see how it comes back from blasting Kyle..👌
Love the channel - always entertaining. When I was a teenager growing up in the 80's, HQ's were plentiful. Nowadays they are so hard to find, and have become a very rare beast indeed. Keep up the great work, and best of luck ! 😀
Not dodgy at all, I reckon it was great camera work. Actially showing the reality of the untouched condition. Oh, and Man you blokes took on quite a bit lifting a whole front clip off a Q. Bloody Impressive!
Nice work Kyle, never get tired of seeing an old HQ getting brought back from the dead 👍 Just for interest sake, what media are you using to blast the shell ? and do they come to you🤔
Hey mate when you replace the inner sills can you film it and how to brace it. I have to do both inner sills in my HG wagon. Just like to see a video of it being done before I tackle the job
Just curious but why is this so rusty? I live California USA and thought Australia had a climate similar to ours. Our cars are mostly rust free. I have a 1978 GMC pickup and not a speck of rust on it.
I wouldn't, but good luck. I remember when HQs came out. I couldn't believe that Holden had reverted to a part chassis like a 1964 Pontiac. HQs weren't good to drive. Horrible geometry. But they did look good compared to what else was around at the time.
Do you know the full history of this car? This car looks exactly the same as the HQ they had at Bathurst TAFE in 1993. Same Colour, same interior and same mismatched Drivers white door! If this is the same car it's been pulled apart and put back together by students half a million times...
Wouldn’t be the same car. The drivers side door had been taken off and replaced with one that had been blasted/epoxied. The other 3 doors had never been off the shell before.
@TheRestoShed yeah right I can understand why people want to go this far because you know it's been done right I'd love come for a drive I just need the cab of my tonner gapped then I can start body and paint but it's probably a bit far from Sydney
Wow someone must be desperate to own a hq . I think it might be a bit far gone, a super rare car or a 2 door ok , but really a 202 kingswood, Belmont. They made 485,000 of them. got to be better examples out there.
I had my first root in a HQstation wagon in kingspark
Congratulations, you now have your comment pinned at the top.
Bumming your brother doesn't count Sherlock
Can you remember her name?😂
@@peterhoulis1184 how many roots did you have in the HQ station wagon?

I love all the Aussie cars regardless of what badge they wear. Thanks for watching.
One of the best looking Holdens that GMH ever made thank you for keeping them alive
Thanks for watching
Top Comment Richard 👌 😎

Great rust is my favourite! Yes it’s good to buy sections but making parts and sections is rewarding 🤷🏽♂️ you love rust too I can tell 👍cheers Peter
Plenty of rust repair content coming up 🤣

Great episode, you've defiantly got ton of metal work in front of you ... good luck.
Great job, nice to see a Aussie classic been restored.
Thanks for watching.
I love HQ's. In your hands it can be saved...i vote SAVE IT!
I love ‘em too.
@@TheRestoShed nice! i own one now for over 20yrs. original with typical rust. i wish i was able to do what you do
Keep these great videos coming , love your work 👍🏻

Thanks Scotty.
Another video coming soon, getting it ready to blast and after it’s blasted.
Definitely save able.
And its an HQ so it deserves to be saved! 😂👍
We will see what comes back after blasting 🤣
No we not getting bored of these cars 😂, this isn’t to far gone, Brett’s coupe, now that’s nearly to far gone 😂😂
Haha Bret’s coupe is certainly on the verge 😂
Definitely going to get some content from these repairs 😅
Yes I think so too
Got a bit of work to do mate 😄. I like the HQ it is a big part of our Australian history.
Very true. Thanks for watching.

love the HQ content 👌.
I had one, same Covert green colour. A Wollongong car leaked water every time it rained.
Not dodgy at all, I reckon it was great camera work. Actially showing the reality of the untouched condition. Oh, and Man you blokes took on quite a bit lifting a whole front clip off a Q. Bloody Impressive!
We’ve done plenty of front removals that way. They’re not heavy, just awkward is the line I’m supposed to use here I think.
HQ's are Epic.
2:57 that choccy milk is the real MVP
Work stops if there’s no Dairy Farmers Classic choccy milk
Got a bit of work ahead, but no doubt it will look great in the end 😎🤙
Plenty of work!
Nice work Kyle, never get tired of seeing an old HQ getting brought back from the dead 👍
Just for interest sake, what media are you using to blast the shell ? and do they come to you🤔
Thanks for watching. It will be garnet blasted, everything but the roof and quarters on this one.

Will be in an upcoming video
Not bored
3:10 noticed chocolate milk on the roof. Surprised it still had some left in it!
Does the bench seat have an arm rest?
Yep
@ are you looking to sell?
@Curto304 no
@ spewing, but fair. Hard thing to get hold of.
Is this a personal car or custmers ??
Cant wait too see this series ,love your work man 😎😎
Thanks for watching. This is a customers car.
I enjoy your work. I'm in the US and we didn't get Holdens here, did they make the HQ in a 2 door?
Yes they did but not a very practical car
Yep, they did.
Watch the first Mad Max dude, the car the Nightrider is driving in the opening scenes
First new car we had back then.
I hope you have some fond memories.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
@TheRestoShed They sold the HQ in 2009 ,it had no real rust& perfect dash& seats.
Just curious but why is this so rusty? I live California USA and thought Australia had a climate similar to ours. Our cars are mostly rust free. I have a 1978 GMC pickup and not a speck of rust on it.
Much like the US, it differs from state to state here in Australia. Our inland cars usually hold up a lot better than the coastal areas.
@@TheRestoShed Thank you. I lived in Minnesota for awhile and the cars and trucks would rust right before your eyes.
She’ll go again no worries 😎
Looks like same colour as Milo?
I think it’s a darker green. Won’t be staying factory colours however.
@ yeah it looked darker when it was outside, can’t wait to see her come back to life 👌
Shouldn't you finish the tough hq before you start the rough hq
Nope 😉
The tough one still needs a ton of work done outside of my shed, so the rough one will keep me busy in the meantime.
I wouldn't, but good luck. I remember when HQs came out. I couldn't believe that Holden had reverted to a part chassis like a 1964 Pontiac. HQs weren't good to drive. Horrible geometry. But they did look good compared to what else was around at the time.

Surprised that one is worth saving time vs money it looks bad from the video
For what you would pay for a “good” one, the same money can be spent on this one which owes the owner nothing.
@TheRestoShed yeah right I can understand why people want to go this far because you know it's been done right
I'd love come for a drive I just need the cab of my tonner gapped then I can start body and paint but it's probably a bit far from Sydney
Once I have some of the larger areas tackled it won’t be as scary 😆
Yep a bit of a hike from Sydney.
Someone bought this new 🦘
Very Aussie colours!
