I have been trucking since 1996 started driving a Cab over Engine C.O.E. I have no complaints and enjoy the profession while meeting my fellow drivers. Yes it’s definitely hard work but it has earned me a good living. May God bless all my fellow Truckers !!!

I really enjoyed this documentary! In 2001 i had the pleasure of being a trucker in the US, from Choctaw, Oklahoma i went coast to coast and crossed 26 states in just over 3 months. Because of personal circumstances i had to go back to Europe, where i am a long-distance truck driver for 35 years allready. I love my job, and i have diesel flowing in my vains... i regret that i couldn't stay forever in America.

I tell ya man I got fortunate getting out of CDL school I was able to work local as a line-haul driver (doubles) for an LTL company .. I work those 12+ hour days but nothing but respect and gratitude to them OTR drivers and there sacrifices ! The true truckers of America ! I loved this documentary !

While I appreciate this documentary, I'd like it to be known that there is no trucker shortage. There are plenty of trucks on the road. The problem is a shortage of pay and shady brokers.
I bought a $10k 17yr old unpopular International 9400i. Truck has done nothing but made money. Been debt free since 2019, and it is great! Don't work too much any more. Best thing I ever did in my working career. Leased onto a great freight outfit, own the flatbed, never had to fight for the money since 2012. Plenty of time to get the trip done, cherry pick my loads. Too many are working for the wrong outfits settling for being Just Over Broke.
It's hard for most working as truckers these days, much stress. Many of these people in the video have found a niche where they are realtivly okay paid, and got money to put into expencive showtrucks if they like. But they are just a small percentage

As a truck driver for 18 years and forced to retire because of the abuse and the stress that has wrecked my nerves.....i would refer the profession to absolute NOBODY!!! It's awful and sucks!!! My Dad would roll over in his grave if he knew what the profession he gave his life to has become! 😮

Well coming from living in a dirt hut, drinking sewer water, sure, living in a truck is a dream. But for most Americans, living in a space smaller than a prison cell, being controlled by dispatch telling you to drive one shift during the day then putting you in two 10 hour breaks so you can drive the next shift at night, making it impossible to get a decent sleep schedule, fighting for parking no matter what time of day or night you stop, dealing with tyrant pigs, shippers/receivers/4 wheelers treating you like pond scum etc, it’s a horrendous way to make a living.
@@EyeForKnowledge. That's not true I used to do over the road and drive nights during the day I could park anywhere at the truck stop night is a different story however truckers are to blame because they throw their trash and piss bottles everywhere so places don't want them parking there
@@Az56818 I drove for three years and if you weren’t in the truck stop by 3pm, good luck. Especially if you were close to a metropolis. Even during the day, so many people are taking their 30, spots fill up quick with them. I can’t stand people throwing trash and piss bottles out of their trucks. I think those people are vile and disgusting. BUT….without the truckers, everything stops. Their businesses close, their vehicles cease to run and their stomachs become empty. And on top of that, the amount of money charged for everything at truck stops are so much higher than anywhere else, they should maybe take some of that money to hire someone to pick up the trash and piss bottles. If they’re littering their lots, it’s their responsibility to clean them. Because when you cease to find piss bottles and trash in your lot, you cease to have trucks and truckers. And if that happens, we are all screwed.
Drove over the road for 8 years back in the 80s. What an experience seeing the country and meeting so many people. I learned about industry and agriculture and how this country works. There were not many women driving back then. I'll never forget the rig I drove hauling swinging meat out of Texas. It had three shifters! Took a little bit getting used to that. Lol.
I'm 22 and i got me CDL when i Was 19, been in the industry for 3 years and i hope to get out eventually. I usually tell people that if they want to get into the trades to avoid this and the railroad becaude both are some of the most abusive and exploitative industries out there. Unless you can get a paid by the hour local job right out of the gate, don't bother getting a cdl because otherwise, you'll get used, abused and underpaid every step of the way, and if someone had told me that before i went to trucking school, i would've done something else because now until i get some more money to pay for school, I'm stuck!
Shout out to the 20% Indian truckers out there. I love that they call america home. Living the American dream. Sacrifice, Grind, Out Work the competition. Rest takes care of it self.

Not shown is sleeping on a small fuel stop dirt lot with only coffee and donuts for breakfast. Parking overnight on deserted ramps with no bathroom. Driving day and night to get freight to arrogant rude shippers and receivers . Waiting on the street for 10 hours because the load is not there/not ready. Layover for a weekend in Wink, Texas. Spending 4 hours unloading and then driving like crazy to pick up a load that is not there.
I drove for Gary. He was a cool dude. Hope he remembers the sacrifices I made during that time. Was honestly surprised to see him featured in this film.

I'm a truck driver by myself but I'd never go on long distance. That's not for me. Just local driving in my semi and after 10 hours back to family and friends. Respect to those who literally live on the road and sleep in their trucks. I'd become depressed af
@NotSoAverageTrucker yes, as a local driver you gonna make less than someone who goes long distance. They might make more $ but literally sacrifice their entire social live. That's a decision that everyone has to make for himself. Here in Germany I make about 2300€ per month which is roundabout 2.5k$ after taxes. For me it's enough to live comfortably. I'm debt-free, just pay a small rent of 300 bucks/month for a two room apartment and have just a few small costs such as gasoline, food, Internet. It always depends on what kind of a living standard someone has. I can imagine that NY is quite expensive and you might have some other major costs. In this case I guess its not easy to find something what's financially satisfying. I can just speak for myself and I rather make some less 💰 every month, but in exchange I sleep in my own bed, use my own bathroom, have time to hit the gym and don't need to worry that my girl might starts something with someone else behind my back coz I'm never there. Long hauling is tough and don't get me wrong, I respect these people but it's an exhausting, lonely life which requires many sacrifices & for me it's just not worth it. But I wish you that you'll find a company with a good salary and work/life balance
if you are only working 3 1/2days per week on long haul then its just a hobby i am Aussie before retirement my normal week would be 6 days of 14 plus hours this is true for most drivers
Thanks i was pretty close to joining it. My cousin says its an easy job but one major thing that makes me not wana be trucker is the extreme weather and dirty toilets!! Im doing culinary job

Been a Diesel mechanic for 23 years. When I first started. Met lots of husband wife teams who made 1m and had plans to retire. The late 90s and early 00s was the last of the money makers. If you want to drive. Do Garbage truck or local delivery.

This Trailer he hauls that Boat is like bigger Car Trailer!! Crazy what stuff u hook on Truck and haul such oversize.We in EU have special Trailers for that even smaller Boats,with hydraulic rear turn Axels with 4 Tires on Axle. they cary over 20 tons on 2 axle Trailer…This to see what u have is crazy.

I drove for 48 years and owned a trucking company for 22 years so I remember when truckers were like "cowboys".... BUT currently it is typical for truck drivers to crap in wall mart bags and drop it on the parking lot, piss in jugs which sometimes can't be helped but they leave the jugs either on your parking lot or the shoulder of the interstate... Common clothes worn are pajama bottoms and flip flops. The "drivers" have no to low skills and are a danger to all on the interstates. Don't tell me about kings of the road, the changes i've seen since 1969 are depressing. I sold out and retired 6 years ago and good ridance. If you want respect then act and do the job in a respectful way.
I feel ya...only rolling into my 12th year out here, and I cannot imagine the heartbreak you've experienced watching so much change during your time. I feel like automatic transmissions brought about all the people who don't have the heart in it but rather just a paycheck.

Ive worked in Transportation for 7 years and the drivers are tbe most under appreciated and unpaid people that keep America running.. a week of no deliveries and itd be mad max. Customers have on demand product nowadays where its based on an algorithm for their order needs. No more days of storing large quantities of stock.

heck yes...I have a 1993 IH eagle,,333,000 miles 12.7 detroit...... probbaly worth 3x what i gave for it which was $8500
I started with old faithful 9400 and it delivered with having 1.4 on the clock! What outfit do you pull for?

Everybodys here complaining about their truck life. While indian truckers dreaming of the life you have. Americans take everything for granted

Drove over the road for 8 years back in the 80s. What an experience seeing the country and meeting so many people. I learned about industry and agriculture and how this country works. There were not many women driving back then. I'll never forget the rig I drove hauling swinging meat out of Texas. It had three shifters! Took a little bit getting used to that. Lol.

I'm 22 and i got me CDL when i Was 19, been in the industry for 3 years and i hope to get out eventually. I usually tell people that if they want to get into the trades to avoid this and the railroad becaude both are some of the most abusive and exploitative industries out there. Unless you can get a paid by the hour local job right out of the gate, don't bother getting a cdl because otherwise, you'll get used, abused and underpaid every step of the way, and if someone had told me that before i went to trucking school, i would've done something else because now until i get some more money to pay for school, I'm stuck!
Seems like a good ole pre trip inspection he would catch some of them problems with the boat 🤷🏻♂️

Not shown is sleeping on a small fuel stop dirt lot with only coffee and donuts for breakfast. Parking overnight on deserted ramps with no bathroom. Driving day and night to get freight to arrogant rude shippers and receivers . Waiting on the street for 10 hours because the load is not there/not ready. Layover for a weekend in Wink, Texas. Spending 4 hours unloading and then driving like crazy to pick up a load that is not there.

I'm a truck driver by myself but I'd never go on long distance. That's not for me. Just local driving in my semi and after 10 hours back to family and friends. Respect to those who literally live on the road and sleep in their trucks. I'd become depressed af
@NotSoAverageTrucker yes, as a local driver you gonna make less than someone who goes long distance. They might make more $ but literally sacrifice their entire social live. That's a decision that everyone has to make for himself. Here in Germany I make about 2300€ per month which is roundabout 2.5k$ after taxes. For me it's enough to live comfortably. I'm debt-free, just pay a small rent of 300 bucks/month for a two room apartment and have just a few small costs such as gasoline, food, Internet. It always depends on what kind of a living standard someone has. I can imagine that NY is quite expensive and you might have some other major costs. In this case I guess its not easy to find something what's financially satisfying. I can just speak for myself and I rather make some less 💰 every month, but in exchange I sleep in my own bed, use my own bathroom, have time to hit the gym and don't need to worry that my girl might starts something with someone else behind my back coz I'm never there. Long hauling is tough and don't get me wrong, I respect these people but it's an exhausting, lonely life which requires many sacrifices & for me it's just not worth it. But I wish you that you'll find a company with a good salary and work/life balance

if you are only working 3 1/2days per week on long haul then its just a hobby i am Aussie before retirement my normal week would be 6 days of 14 plus hours this is true for most drivers

Been a Diesel mechanic for 23 years. When I first started. Met lots of husband wife teams who made 1m and had plans to retire. The late 90s and early 00s was the last of the money makers. If you want to drive. Do Garbage truck or local delivery.

This Trailer he hauls that Boat is like bigger Car Trailer!! Crazy what stuff u hook on Truck and haul such oversize.We in EU have special Trailers for that even smaller Boats,with hydraulic rear turn Axels with 4 Tires on Axle. they cary over 20 tons on 2 axle Trailer…This to see what u have is crazy.

My husband runs a roadtrain here in Aust --- said doing that distance that boat should have been on a drop deck trailer it was bound to fail from the start
I drove for 48 years and owned a trucking company for 22 years so I remember when truckers were like "cowboys".... BUT currently it is typical for truck drivers to crap in wall mart bags and drop it on the parking lot, piss in jugs which sometimes can't be helped but they leave the jugs either on your parking lot or the shoulder of the interstate... Common clothes worn are pajama bottoms and flip flops. The "drivers" have no to low skills and are a danger to all on the interstates. Don't tell me about kings of the road, the changes i've seen since 1969 are depressing. I sold out and retired 6 years ago and good ridance. If you want respect then act and do the job in a respectful way.

Ive worked in Transportation for 7 years and the drivers are tbe most under appreciated and unpaid people that keep America running.. a week of no deliveries and itd be mad max. Customers have on demand product nowadays where its based on an algorithm for their order needs. No more days of storing large quantities of stock.
Truck drivers are paid what the market will bare, this is how a Free trade economy works.
Their not underpaid, wages are negotiable.
