My best friend in the 90s had one of these. I remember many a Friday night on the Salt River, ripping up and down on the ice. Good times... Simpler times...
In '82 in SW Illinois, we had a blizzard , dad just got me a Spitfire. Man, I rode that little baby day and night. Still have it today, all original. Great little machine.
I had the 1977 spitfire I could ride wheelies on it I rebuilt it up to be a mean machine. Took it to the Gresham radar runs in Gresham, Wisconsin a few years back just to show it off . Love that machine .
Like yesterday for me. My neighbors had spit fires. Together we would meet on the lake on our way to the outdoor ice rinks. I on my 340 colt ss and they on their John Deers.....braaaaap baaaraaaaaaaap.....
My grandpa had a John Deere liquifire ran fine until the 1990s when the engine broke but by then the only replacement parts we're from other snowmobiles.
Never had a problem with any of the ones I rode. On many occasions I was able to exceed 80mph. And to be honest, 60 mph on a sled is plenty. Look how many of today's riders can't control them at 50 mph.
Oh the Good old days. We had several John Deere snowmobiles. Great sleds. Had many hours of enjoyment
