I can’t believe it took this long for Caroline to be on a track named Siren. To me it’s the perfect descriptor for her voice. Ocean of Tears also has a siren theme, so go watch that if you haven’t. She’s extraordinary.

This song is beautiful, this video is beautiful...but knowing the siren cries being referred to are ambulances carrying dying people and that the singer is actually wishing to save them makes it heartbreaking as well.
As well, her father sadly passed from COVID-19 in 2020. Heartbreaking.
Music can be interpreted subjectively by the listener. To me this song has a completely different meaning.

I interpreted the song as “sirens” that lead good men on. They promise you the world then show their true side and betray you. Ultimately becoming unfaithful and crushing your heart in the end. It’s what happened to me. The song never meant anything about ambulance sirens but “sirens of the sea”.

Also, sorry you're going through a tough time but this is an artist's rendition of something, not a 1:1 take on the mythology of sirens. Your interpretation is fine, but it's not necessarily "right" for everyone else, including the people who actually created the art. If you want to deliberately see something other than what the artist said that's fine, but other people can still see it how they want...including seeing what the artist intended.

Originally a siren would draw a sailor to its death with her singing, so the fact that this siren comes from the sky to rescue someone from the water is pretty cool

Thank you, Flume & Caroline Polachek (and iHeartComix for highlighting this so I found it). 10 years this year, I lost my younger brother, Timothy Wong, to a motorcycle accident on Mount Hamilton in San Jose. He worked for NVidia and just finished his grad degree from Stanford in Electrical Engineering (UCLA undergrad). He was an Eagle Scout and survived 13 years of Catholic School. He loved to run, hated the site of blood, used Coca Cola all his life to wrangle his ADD (might’ve been alive if he was on proper medication/therapy for it), loved his online gaming and irl friends, and tragically went on a rash motorcycle ride with people who didn’t know him or his inexperience and didn’t look after him except to watch him bleed to death without calling 911. Caroline always brings a vocal phrase in her songs that tickles my senses and gives me shivers. It's rare to find somebody with such classical training collab with electronic producers to marry the best of traditional and 21st century styles but this hits hard.
What i love about flume is that he's a whole different type of genre... he is his own genre 🔥

Am I the first to notice that the guy she is singing to is a race car driver (ie someone who moves on land rather than sails in the ocean)? If sirens drew sailors to their death by wrecking their ships on land (rocks) Caroline as a siren is bringing a drowned race car driver back to life by drawing him out of the water. Hilarious inversion.
She did state this ahahah....she said that she found out sirens are actually winged creatures that lure in people in the water and she wants to invert that idea on this video....she stated that flume was a petrified person and she come to drag him away from danger

Just thoughts: she is singing, "...and if I could with just a sigh, I'd stop the tide of siren cries." According to that & the video, I don't think she's intended to be the siren.
My interpretation is he was lured to his death by sirens, where he'd been lost in the water and obscurity until she comes from above to give him peace. Moreover, I think the lyrics are about a desire to stop all the chaos and hurt in the world, but being unable to and just having to watch it unfold.

I was on the scene of a head on motorcycle crash. Red light. I was 23 last year. I saw it all happen at the intersection. Escondido, San Diego. Bear Valley Parkway. I saw it all happen in front of my eyes. There was so much blood, he still had his helmet on. He was only 26. Gone far too young. I got out of my car....my friends stayed inside of the car. I got on both knees in front of this lifeless man, and wished him the best, my instinct told me to direct traffic, I signalled everyone passing by to roll down their windows, I said full heartedly, "your kids dont need to see this" and they said...........thank you......

This song came up as an advertisement I had to find out who was behind this magical melody sounds great voice and beat goes together beautifully!
